M3 and Upfront Industries LLC present: ![]() Rinse Magazine, District Soul and DCDNB sponsored event ![]() D-BRIDGE [ Exit | Bad Company UK ] - UK D-Bridge AKA Darren White's first introduction into the music scene was in 1992, when he formed 'Sewage Monsters' with his older brother (signed to MCA and Island Records as 'Steve Spacek'). It was during this period that Daniel Stein AKA Fresh was beginning his apprenticeship in the camp, and similar ideas were leading to collaborations with the pair, the first and last of which to be released on Hardware was The Code and Fugitive before differences with management led all three leaving Hardware for new beginnings. It was here that Fresh introduced Darren and Jason to Michael Wojcicki AKA Vegas and Bad Company UK began in earnest. 2003 has seen many major changes within BC camp and more notably in D-Bridge's musical direction. Whilst the most recent album Shot Down on Safari was in production Darren was also busy at work co-producing Spacek's second album 'Vintage High-tech' on high-profile label !K7. D-Bridge's contribution to this album spawned a new direction for him and led to the founding, alongside his brother and Spacek co-member Morgan Zarate of The Istickz, a self-described 'futuristic/simplistic' soul group consisting of 5 Producers, 3 DJs, 2 Vocalists and several MPC2000's and laptops. The latest venture in D-Bridge's (now somewhat eclectic) career is the fruition of a lifetime goal in the form of drum & bass label Exit Records. Exit came about as a result of Darren’s desire to be able to express his own individual qualities as a producer, rather than being a contributor to a greater whole. Embarking on a solo effort seems like a natural progression for Darren, who through the success of Bad Company UK, Spacek and more recently with Istickz has managed to create a diverse and inspirational release catalogue of enviable proportions. With a history as varied and colourful as this, who knows what to expect next from D-Bridge? ![]() BLACK SUN EMPIRE [ BSE Recordings | DSCI4 ] - NL **5DNB DEBUT** Black Sun Empire is a DJ/producer collective based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It was formed by René Verdult, Milan Heyboer and his younger brother Micha Heyboer. They have been making music together since early 1993 but after experimenting with various styles they found their musical direction around 1997, which resulted in the formation of Black Sun Empire. Heavily influenced by releases from the darker labels such as No U Turn, Prototype and Virus, drum’n’bass has been their main focus from then on. The first half of 2004, marks the timeframe for their ‘Driving Insane’ album tour that covers large parts of Europe including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Hungary, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium, Holland, France and the notoriously hard to conquer United Kingdom. Further trips to the USA and Australia are set to go down in Summer. With their LP forthcoming on their own imprint (including remixes of classics “The Rat” and “B’negative” provided by Kemal and SKC/Chris.su respectively and a collaboration with CAUSE4CONCERN) and many exciting new projects in the pipeline, the future looks very promising for Black Sun Empire. MARCIO & HYX [ Corrupt Souls | BSE Recordings ] - DC Hyx and Marcio, the original founders of the audiovisual electronic music group known as Telemetrik, have been working as a duo for the past five years as DJs and producers. The duo has had releases on such labels as Black Sun Empire, Obsessions and many to come on the forthcoming Sin Recordings. Marcio has done work as a member of Corrupt Souls, collaborating with such artists as Evol Intent and Vicious Circle. The two members of Telemetrik have no doubt proven themselves as valuable contributors to drum and bass both locally and globally. BOBBY JAE [ Upfront | Five ] - DC Mastering the sultry, sexy sounds of DC drum and bass, Bobby Jae never fails with his impeccable mixing and top-notch selection. Be sure to check out Bobby Jae's new highly anticipated mix, Upfront Drum n' Bass. This follow up to his 2003 URB Mix It Best classic, Perpetual Motion, is a veritable showcase of the liquid, funky sounds that many artists on the Upfront Industries roster are currently cultivating. ILLY MC [ Phylum | Substitution ] - PHI With a lust for music, and a thirst to innovate, Illy's interest in emceeing began at the age of 13. Having a rooted hip-hop background and an avid love for jungle/drum and bass, proved a positive combination: shaping a style that aims to push US drum and bass emcees to the forefront. On the production side, Illy delivers quality tracks ranging from catchy dance floor killers, to melodic, vibing jams. With a release set for Phylum recordings, and an arsenal of tracks in rotation, his production is sure to keep the crowd moving. Heated Rooftop Patio: DEEPER BY DESIGN feat. JOE L & RICH EDWARD [ DirtySugar.net | BodyRock | Rendezvous ] One nation under a groove. This is the motto that Deeper by Design lives by. With several years under their belt working dancefloors, as well as the experience of running weekly events, monthly events, and having thrown several one-offs, they are dedicated workers in the underground house scene. Crafting their sound to excite crowds, their special blend of deep house, funk and tech has been heard in DC's and Baltimore's biggest clubs. REX RIDDEM [ Fort Knox Five | Thunderball ] An accomplished DJ/producer, Rex Riddem has moved dancefloors across the U.S. as well as internationally. His style, highly tribal and ethnicly influenced, traverses through many styles and tempos. Provided that its got a diasporic twist to it, Rex can rock anything from laid back samba-breakbeats, through latin infused funk, to hot-steppin drum n bass. Promotional giveaways ALL night. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
you WILL NOT see better dnb lineups in this city. sorry kids, it's true. d-bridge AND black sun empire? come on. two acts that are at the forefront of their respective styles. if you pass on this night then you're straight retarded. even my semi-retired-from-going-out-roommate will be out for this one. throw in marcio + hyx for good measure, who know what BIG TUNIN is all about. corrupt souls have been dropping dnb bombs all over the place for the past few years, and hyx isn't far off himself. watch for the tunes they'll drop in february. BIG.
