I've never used Serato (though i did user Final Scratch ver 1.0 a few years back 2003, i think - was not too impressed at the time)

I did pick up the Torq connectiv recently and I have no complaints about it at all.

I use on a Vaio win XP PC with a pentium 2.4 cpu and 512 MB of RAM

absolutely no latency problems using the control vinyl and external mixer mode.

I only got a chance to use it live once so far and it did pretty good . . .no problems


i don't think i have even scratched the surface of what it can do; you can also use control CDs as well as vinyl, you can Rewire it into an applicable host (it is designed to work well with Ableton) , it has a sampler/ effects, alot of realtime control stuff, and you can use MIDI devices with it

even has some weird thing called AMPuatate where it would let you spin on one deck or CD player somehow (maybe this might be useful if you are using it with some midi equipment or sfotware for a more live PA sort of thing instead of straight DJing)

its cheaper than Serato too

(i don't know what features Serato itself has maybe its got the same shit)

However the downside is that Serato is the standard, and clubs are installing the Rane Serato mixer so it makes the setup substantially easier

Yo...hands down....if you wanna’ do MORE than just play/mix records at your gigs....TORQ TORQ TORQ!
We've got the shit (we used to use Finalscratch- as you may remember?) and Torq just takes it to the next level.
We've got a Behringer midi controller (faders/knobs) and hooked that up to the lappy while it runs Torq.
Why the controller?
Well...while we are playing/mixing tunes- we are triggering samples/loops (up to 16) in Torq using the controller.
We are adding glitch effect using a .vst effect that we've loaded in Torq
We are adding turntable stop/rewind/transformer effects which all come in Torq which we've assigned to our controller. All with ease!
We're bringing a "live performance" aspect to the DJ gig that makes it all so much fun again...
in the near future we will be linking it via "ReWire" with Ableton's LIVE 7 (which Torq let's you do) and throwing down on-the-spot tunes/remixes.

that is something serato has too, and took advantage of it once when I fucked up the needle on the other turntable. It is also useful for scratching, if you prefer to scratch on one particular side, you can "flip" the channels.

but dude I have been dying to play with torq... mojo jones invite me over some time so I can wreck the discotheque.

Torq > Serato

I have used all of them and Torq is the clear winner.
I own a Torq setup and I completely love it.

I was at playa del fuego and someone there was using torq... but I was not in a position to look over his shoulder and see how it works. I really want a demo on this. I love my serato but I am not a zealot. I have a laundry list of features I want that serato can't give me (right now, who knows what the next update will bring) but if torq can deliver, I will switch.

i'm a serato owner, user, supporter.

from my knowledge serato is the industry standard for vinyl emulation. for example, it was used the other day on the VH1 hip hop honors show celebrating a tribe called quest. dnb dj's using it include :roni size, marky, makoto, grooverider, a-sides... etc. there's a shitload of others on the list here: http://www.scratchlive.net/djs/?dj=junior+sanchez

it doesn't have effects and shit... it does have many other bells and whistles including looping and cue points which are ABSOLUTELY the shit for spinning hip hop and you could use it in a lot of ways for edm also.

it is stable, easy to use, there is a forum http://www.scratchlive.net/forum/ in which you can talk directly to rane/serato moderators there Specifically to help you troubleshoot if you need it. (very helpful, not many companies do this)

free upgrades (1.8 coming out soon with video mixing capabilities and MIDI)

i'm not trying to be a salesman even if it seems like that... but... i've had it for almost 2 years and i love it for drum and bass, hip hop and all sorts of ecclectic weird shit otherwise. any questions let me know.

Anyone done comparisons on Torq with Traktor Scratch?

I am curious to see which is the clear winner between all the programs. I've used Torq and Traktor and I like them both, though Torq does have a nicer interface. Then again Traktor has some neat tricks too like 2 extra decks, and the Xone 92 emulation, perfect if you have the Xone 92 mixer.

I was thinking about checking into Serato but I may end up using the one I started with, Torq with the new Xponent.
