CALIBRE & DRS [ Signature | Soul:R ] - UK **SPECIAL 2 HOUR SET/5DNB DEBUT**
Since his early work for Dublin label Qaudrophonic in 1998 Calibre has always delivered a sound that delves below the all too often unsatisfying D&B surface. His ability to bring a warm, natural feel to the digital landscape of D&B raised interest from Creative Source and Radio 1’s Fabio, leading to a critically acclaimed double album in 2001, entitled ‘Musiqe Concrete’. This opened the door to a new breed of dance floor capable, musically orientated D&B, as confident in its longevity as in its originality. Less was certainly more.
Fast forward to 2003 and Calibre’s own vision, Signature records has come to light. This imprint will be the home for his own prolific studio output, offering an unprecedented freedom to experiment and release music on his own terms. Signature promises regular Drum and Bass singles as well as an artist album in 2004, a limited edition 10” Dub influenced series, remixes of his own work from fellow boundary pushers such as Omni Trio and Klute as well as further collaborations, including MIST’s ST Files. Signature will also showcase Calibre’s House and down tempo work, which has already seen the light of day thanks to John Tejada’s US house imprint, Palette. Signature certainly looks like another reason to be positive about Drum and Bass in 2003 and its assured longevity. Whatever the doubters may say, Drum and Bass isn’t going anywhere; and neither is Calibre.
MATHEMATICS [ Social Studies | Defunked ] - NYC
As a veteran DJ act, Mathematics is known for creating a unique vibe; blending soulfulness with dancefloor beats, making a wicked deep party atmosphere. Mathematics have recently launched their own imprint Social Studies distributed worldwide by Load Media. Upcoming releases include a 12, due out Winter 2005: ‘Jazz b/w Sphinx’ getting played by Fabio and DJ Flight among others. After that we will hear two singles themed Mathematical Tactics featuring collaborations between Maths and the Hungarian bad boys, Tactile. Also watch out for a collab with Mijatoho from Zurich. While drum & bass made in America has long been ignored by the largely UK-dominated scene, this talented duo has been heartily welcomed by the DJ fraternity in England, having had their music released on high profile labels such as Hospital, C.I.A, Defunked, Frontline, Renegade Rec. among others and played by the likes of LTJ Bukem, Bryan Gee, DJ Hype, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, High Contrast, DJ Lee, Nookie, London Elektricity, Blame, Calibre, L Double and Bailey, amongst others.

Mastering the sultry, sexy sounds of DC drum and bass, Bobby Jae never fails with his impeccable mixing and top-notch selection. Be sure to check out Bobby Jae's new highly anticipated mix, Upfront Drum n' Bass. This follow up to his 2003 URB Mix It Best classic, Perpetual Motion, is a veritable showcase of the liquid, funky sounds that many artists on the Upfront Industries roster are currently cultivating.
HITOI [ Upfront | EXBC ] - DC
Hitoi's flavor of dnb is strongly influenced by her house background with groovy melodies and catchy basslines. Favoring labels such as Hospital and Commercial Suicide and artists including Commix and Artificial Intelligence, her unique sound turning heads locally and beyond. Watch out as she warms things up at Club Five tonight.
