:deathstar: DJs - who helped "define" your style?

This was blatantly stolen from the D&B forum:

before you started spinning (and even after), what DJs inspired you & your mixing style? yes, i know the way you mix is and should be your own...but whether you agree or not, we've all "borrowed" things we've heard other DJs do (subconciously) and apply them in what we do now.

The first breaks DJ i ever saw spin was Joanna O. I was hooked then and there. Switchstance and Adegen spun at Vision, and I loved the hell out of their sets, and they were lpayuing tracks that I liked, so they've had a huge influence on what and how I play. Coming up, Bioteknik was like ahair's breadth ahead of me, and I always stole shit from his style. Sanborn has a magical way with the EQs that i've definitely ripped smoe pointers from.
As far as bigger names go, I have to say that 10 Sui was a big turning point for me. I didn't so much take anything away from how she played, more than what she played. Lately Elite Force has been getting a lot of my attention, although as things in the tech-funk world get housier, I'm looking elsewhere for inspiration.

The first dj I saw that really impressed me was Feelgood. The reason being that on a good night, he doesn't care too much about being perfect with what he's doing, but rather he never takes his hands off the mixer. I saw him using the sampler, effex, constant eqing, and cutting. He utilized so many techniques to control the music. That was what I wanted to do.

Juan and Ken from East Coast Boogiemen: Definately watched these guys closely, cause they seemed to always have this constant mix flow going on, and I never got bored listening to them play. These guys primarily don't touch their records either, which says to me...pitch control is key.

Next I would have to go with Faust and Shortee. I want to be able to scratch and cut like that. Those two are "real" djs. They play party tunes, and they are consistant entertainers. Never heard anything short of genius come from them.

Josh Wink has always been an influence. He has a brilliant concept of composition overall, and can make the most minimal of tracks interesting by utilizing mixing techniques and eq.

Early inspiration to spin came mostly from a local Atlanta DJ named Sikora. Every set he dropped had the dancefloor rocking. His track selection was amazing.

As far as when learning, i mostly learned from watching my DNB DJ roomate at the time, Fenomenon. Picked up mixing tracks quicker by watching Havok and Punk Ass Mark. Learned some EQ stuff from wathcing house DJs like Karri On and David Michael and progressive DJ Anthony Paul. and lil bits here and there from other DJs...

I'm usually up by the DJ booth watching (if able) how different DJs mix, just to see how they do things differently and if it might work for me. Can always learn something new I always say.
