    The Diane Charlemagne Appreciation Thread

Diane Charlemagne is a voice that drum and bass fans can instantly recognize for good reason: she's a hell of a great singer.

This Moss Side girl was kicked out of her college band for singing, so she got mad by getting even and singing in, and winning, the Battle of the Bands. She WAS here in the United States for half a decade, and she's credited as the singer in five Top 40 singles. She worked with many people in the diverse spectrum of the black music scene from venerable soul-man Howard Bernstein to Rob Playford.

And not only has she realized drum and bass diva status as the (oustanding) lead singer in releases from Goldie, Satoshi Tomie, Cyantific, and very recently Strider, she even wrote HER OWN drum and bass single, "Blue!"

She has songwriter credits and singing credits, but I'd also give her instrument credits because she uses that voice of hers like Satchmo on the trumpet. Diane, you are My favorite diva, and you are one great chanteuse. Go on, girl!

who hasn't heard "Inner City Life"?
But here you go anyhow. She was also the only singer except for David Bowie in "Saturnz Return," where she sang one of the top jazz'/ambient performances I've ever heard from a non-American singer. I think the name of that Goldie track was "Believe."

Yup, but Moby's such a whore, he's toured with everybody but Pantera.
