can someone please explain why the a record loses its feeling when you record it then put it to cd?

im into the breaks scene and records always end up feeling flatter like they lost something.
where does that mojo go?

also no one here mentions compressors? a lot of talk on normalising, but if i really want that bass to come through without clipping i use a compressor.

it depends on the codec you are using to put it to the comp. it will never be a perfect replication, but the codec makes a difference. Shitty codec, your shit is going to sound shitty. and the compressor too.

codecs do not matter. you should always record in an uncompressed format - i.e. .wav or .aiff. what does matter is your sound card, AD converter, and your mixer.

also, dance records are mastered to sound good when played really loud. a CD that you play at home is mastered differently. :shrug:
