    Outputmessage/Doofgoblin LIVE! thurs 23rd
Sonic Circuits Presents Electronic Musical Prodigy
Bernard Farley (aka Outputmesage) and aural adventurer John Gulino (aka Doofgoblin)

Washington, D.C. – With electronic music having gone the way of Ibiza, academia or 80’s revivalism, a new group of experimenters is on the scene to prove that electronic music need neither be mind-numbing nor alienating to listeners. Two of those raising the bar on electronic music and giving the likes of Aphex Twin a run for his money are Richmond’s 20-year-old Outputmessage and former thrash metal guitarist turned electro-composer Doofgoblin. Electronic whiz-kid Outputmessage and easy-listening nemesis Doofgoblin will be featured as part of the Sonic Circuits festival on Thursday, September 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Flashpoint Gallery.

Current holder of the URB Electronic Track of the Month title is Outputmessage, a math and philosophy major by day, turned compulsive composer by night. Creating literally hundreds of tracks annually, outputmessage has been heralded for putting some old-fashioned heart and sonic depth into IDM or “intelligent dance music,” as this abstract form of electronic music is known. The abstraction meets soul somewhere along the way, and Outputmessage delivers a sound that adheres to a beat enough to appeal to even the novice listener. “Everything-and-the-kitchen-sink” composer Doofgoblin hasn’t found an object that can’t be made listenable, challenging and complex. “Sound amuses me,” he says, “It makes me laugh. Nonrepresentational sound and sound association can be pure entertainment: comedy, tragedy, and terror, and often at once."

Outputmessage and Doofgoblin will be joined by local DC producer Nick Normal and Washington nightclub regular DJ Milo, formerly of the Blue Room’s long-running Filler and Matter experimental music nights.

WHO: Outputmessage, Doofgoblin, Nick Normal and DJ Milo
    WHEN: Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Flashpoint Gallery (916 G ST NW)
    TICKETS: $7.00, Available at Door
INFO: For additional information about Sonic Circuits events, call 202.315.1315.

Sonic Circuits is the largest regional event for electronic music. It is presented annually by ACF-DC, the seven-year-old local chapter of the American Composers forum, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the artistic and career development of composers and creating new markets for contemporary music. This year's festival is made possible through partnerships and support from the Washington Performing Arts Society, the Randy Hostetler Living Room Fund, and the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation.
