I think we all have to admit...

The DC D&B scene is getting much better than it has been for the last 3 years.....

Even though we still have a lot of headliners to bring over, I think the vybes at parties are better, so is the female to male ratio and attitudes of attendees.....

I think the tension is breaking a bit.... Maybe I'm just

No Moe - you're right. Shy F/X showed just that and not only that but it seems like more and more people are responding to all styles of it equally well - we've got liquid funk nights @ saki, big headliners hitting five/nation/sonar on a regular basis - and then solid representation by the locals from DC/MD/VA thru the airwaves / on the internet / just everything - I do agree w/ you here, and at the very least I am hopeful to see DC really get into it much more...

How much of the 18+/21+ factor are you putting into the vibe thing? I def. know @ the 21+ joints we all frequent, it has been getting MUCH better...Beyond that though, I dunno - the 18+ crowd is still not there in my opinion...

    Yeah Avik,

The 21+ parties are cool, but I still like to see some of the D&B youths around at parties as well. The great thing about places where there is a lot of foot traffic, like around Red & Five is that you get a good mix of people that come in and see the real vybes of a D&B party. nothing is more fun than watching a few drunk "suit and tie people" brock out to jungle. This has been bringing in new blood that will hopefully make the D&B scene in dc stronger. I would love to see some of the local dub, downtempo, reaggae, and hip-hop producers/DJs get into D&B, then our local production scene may eventually be able to support a local vinyl plant..... And other things.

I bet Shy Fx, is going to leave DC on the map for next time, we gave him a great reception. The crowd there was really cool and supportive.

considering my brain is not functioning the way it should right now...i can't go into it any further @ the moment.... but i do agree Moe. There are definitely a lot of people going out lately. a few years ago your only options for drum&bass were buzz, or wherever 2tuff was doing urban space.

now there's a ton of options for somebody to go check out live dnb.

That's the biggest change i've seen. It's really translating through to the DJ sets. For the first time in a while I feel like I could play just about anything and get away with it as long as it's presented in the proper context.

I also think everyone is growing up a bit. There's still debate and constructive criticism floating around but people are mature enough to see it as such instead of misconstruing it as 'hating' or disrespect.

    Moe....this is a great topic.
I think that all of the people that went to parties in the last 3 or so years are strting to get more and more into the vibes of EVERY party, not just the big shows with all the headliners. Golden Vynil awards was a perfect example....everyone came out to show support. But i think that the 21+ parties kinda kill it with the age thing. I am not hating, i think that the 20 year olds miss out on alot of things due to age. THats why all the buzz/cubik parties get som much attention now a days. Becuase thats really the only outlet for their d&b fix.
I go to see friends within the scene, have a great time getting down to ALL vibes withtin the area and always always always get a little crunk. Plus, think that alot of the NEWER faces to the scene are meeting alot of the "Old School" heads, and are more willing and able to come on on a week night to jam out with their firends, and just create a vibe that no other city can match. (Maybe Philly)...b-more is stepping it up with SOnar having a headliner everyweek...MAJOR! All in all....The massives have been out in full effect...LETS KEEP IT UP PEOPLE! FO SHIZZLE....(i am white). :respekt:

I think that the critics have grown a little as well.

I think that rather than saying negative things off the bat, they usually restrain a little more. Still have yet to be won over by many, but its all around. D&B is so vast that the possiblilty for many styles and sounds to exist is limitless, there will always be a style, tunes and vybes that we don't feel, the key is allowing/helping everything to co-exist. Then when you feel the need for a break, or change of sounds, you will always have somewhere else to go. Todays clownstep producer may be tomorrows tech anthem killer, and vice versa [Edrush & Optical] ehem.

I still think the best way to improve things in a critical sense, is to send respectful and [private] suggestions to artists in the area on ways of improving tunes, sets, and parties. I think we should try to gravitate to those that really support our own prefrence in styles of D&B while still supporting those that don't because its all for the common good, and trying new things cant hurt as well. If you're not dooing something different, then it keeps things a little too uniform and people get jaded.... :hypnotized:

I'm in total agreement with this thread. I wish I had something else to add to the conversation, but my feelings have already been expressed.
