    final scratch and company

I was doing a little bit of investigation on the current development of mp3 playback via manipulation of traditional analogue turntable.

The obvious prime candidate is obviously Final Scratch. There's been be plenty of threads on this piece of software.

The second one, is the Rane/Serato effort. There's a thread about it.

The third is a lesser known MsPinky system. http://www.mspinky.com/ I believe someone made a thread about it, too.

I also found something pretty interesting... you'd still need either Final Scratch or MsPinky's timecode records, but from what I can see, that's all you need. Hardware wise, you can choose your own favourite ASIO sound card which many of you already have. It looks really interesting and I'd love to try it out only if I have the timecode records. Perhaps someone here can try it out?

Lastly is a not very well implemented is V-control with Virtual DJ (http://www.virtualdj.com). In theory, it utilises your current webcam to track rotational changes on your platter and use that as a control code. I thought this was a really cool idea but obviously has its limitations such as lighting interference and webcam framerates.

I hooked up my computer (has two cheap soundcards) to the mixer and used Virtual DJ to playback mp3s with its orginary interface. It worked relatively well for straight mixing. Unfortunately, it's got too many bells and whistles and no tactile control (unless you buy their hardware controller) that you may have praticality issues with accuracy and reputational issues with other DJs looking down on ya.
