    mixing without headphones?

has anyone ever tried to do this?

i left my headphone adapter at my gf's apt last night and REALLY wanted to try mixing some new records I got in... so i just mixed using the sound coming off of the stylus.... this is suprisingly easy to do...

so if you're ever spinning in a club and the headphones break completely-- ALL IS NOT LOST....

lol....acually I noticed the same thing..tho if you are in a loud club im not sure if the faint highs you get from the needle are going to be loud enough...

yeah, i've tried this. just have to make sure you put year ear close to the stylus, that your dreads don't make the needle skip, and then go at it.

it helps that my stylii are loud as hell. i imagine on a club system, the stylus noise would be drowned out by the monitors. works fine at home though.

Ummmm due to reasons beyond control didn't this have to be done for a lil bit @ Hybrid last year. Matty?

Can't remember who had to do it though.

I mixed at HYBRID last year with some little earbud headphones for a walkman one time lol

and there is no way in hell mixing without headphones and cueing by listening to the stlyus would work at the club.

altho once the rekkid is cued and you can distinguish the sounds ok with practice you can take your phones off

Once the music gets past a certain loudness just listening to the Stylus would not work. I agree.

it'll make u match faster, i'll tell you what!
i think this is a great way for new djs to practice; whenever i gave dj lessons i had the students mix sans phones for a while.

I did that at Metatrack... It really does help a lot. I still try it once in a while.. but not really using the needles, just drop the new track in at full volume.

Its true. Once music is too loud, I don't think the sound out of the stylus will help a lot

Yes, I have totally mixed off of the sound coming from the stylus.
