    Poll: Breaks styles "played out"?

Seems like most people who play breaks currently look down on "Funky Breaks" or "Big Beat" or "Acid Breaks" because those styles are "played out" and favor Nu Skool and a scant few like Electro (NOT Electroclash)

So I'm just curious how many people will still play a track in some of those mid 90's styles if it's a good track, or if dropping anything with an acidy bassline is just automagically wack.

I'm not talking about bringing back old tunes that are played out btw.

I play anything... I use the distinct sub-genres to find sounds I'm interested in, but I'll play anything that's good...

I even have a Curtis Blow record, and Run DMC hanging around, should the need arise.

Anything with a breakbeat will suffice. It's the DJ that is my focus, if they can't spin then whatever played will sound like shit.

As long as I can :breakdance: to it, it doesn't matter.

Werd.. keep the votes coming as this will likely influence what my new demo sounds like.

I tend to like Nu school and funky. But as long as the set is done right anything will sound good.

I don't like it when a dj plays the most popular of breaks...or allows the set to not go anywhere. That is just my preference though

I'm sure you'd do it right Phil.

Anything, as long as it sounds good. Variety is key. A whole set of distorted-bassline nu skool stuff is pretty damn boring, no matter how good the individual track are stand-alone.

I'm bored of the older stuff. That's just me tho. I'd like to hear a new vibe on the old school tip.

Me too. There's been some new stuff coming out along those lines. Elite Force, DJ KJ and Stirfry are producing some, just to name a few.

mm, no links, but the tracks i'm thinking of off-hand are

elite force - crew one [moonshine green]
    dj kj - alive [808]
stirfry - lose control [whole 9 yards]

there are others, especially from elite force that came out sometime over the past couple weeks.

I am up for anything good. There is nothing truly new these days, only recycled. So use the old with the new for something newER.
