    The Big 5

So, my son is turning 5 on the 22nd and is extremely excited about it.  His father and I generally have separate parties for him because of our respective family's intense dislike of each other.  This year however it is my goal to have one party, one because he wants to invite all his "girlfriends" and "dawgs" (and that gets expensive) and because hes so hyped about being 5.  Besides that, the schism between us needs to be breached eventually and what kind of message does that send to the kids....if we cant even be civil on their birthdays?  (All in all it really comes down to the :loot:.  I want to throw him something memorable and I dont have the funds to do so this year).

So, this is where you guys come in.  I've done the Chuck E. Cheese thing numerous times and not only is that a NIGHTMARE when you are responsible for more than 2-3 kids, but they generally overbook parties and then its MAYHEM.  Besides the fact that it gets pricey the more people you have.  Does anyone have any suggestions in the NoVA/ DC area of fun, different, catering to 5 year olds party places?  We just went to a bday party at Generous George's Pizza in Alexandria last weekend, but that would be super lame to copy their idea so soon after.  (For those of you that have kids, this place is great...the kids get to make their own pizza and the rooms are covered with carnival animals).

Anyway, HELP.  I need to make reservations and get invitations out no later than tomorrow.

The problem is my apt is too small and Darin's family likes to :chug The kids go to a "upper class" school (THANK YOU social services). It sucks to want to keep up with the Jones' but thats the reality.

I really want something that blows everyone away. And home parties....at least not for his 5th bday. He tells everyone he sees that he'll be 5. I want to spoil him this year.

I'm going to check that laser tag thing out. See if they can block off an hour or so and let the kids go crazy.

Laser tag. I don't know if that's too much for 5 year olds though.

What about a skating party? Sorry about the lame ideas. I never had b-day parties when I was a kid, and I don't have too many younger relatives to drag me along to any now.

I dont think skating will work. I'm expecting at least 10 kids and I would bet only 1 or 2 know how to skate.

    :hmm:

(Since I have a lack of kid knowledge...here's what I know...)
My little brother had one at that bowling alley that is Strikes now in Bethesda, one at the zoo- which was pretty cool, and I think when he was REALLY little they did one at a children's book store in Bethesda which was probably boring. Anything involving an activity or getting dirty seems to be popular- one of his friends did a rocking climbing party this year that will probably be hard to beat.

I can tell you what looks REALLY lame...those pottery places were you paint it. I don't buy it when that little boy in the commercial says he wants his party there.
That's what the history of the world is based on- the link between shoes and a bag. You think it's about Christianity, but it's not. It's about shoes and handbags! -Isaac Mizrahi
