    Which school is better?

I do not plan on going to either one anytime soon, as I am not financially capable. But when that time DOES come. Which school do you think would be better for me? Fullsail in Winterpark, Florida or Omega in Rockville, MD? I am going after my degree in recording arts & possibly show production & touring.

Fullsail is quite expensive too. But it is only for a a year or so worth of school. I just dunno if it is over hyped or not.

i would go to fullsail if you can afford it, but i will warn you, do not expect to get a job without busting your ass, and at that, get a job in a small studio. large studios will make you the coffee bitch for about 2-3 years before you even touch the board...

Yeah, I was under the impression that Fullsail teaches you everything you need to know in order to DO IT YOURSELF when you finish their courses. I was only made aware of Omega recently and take it into thought simply because it is closer. But if anyone has any info to share on either school. I would appreciate it. Thanks Fingerprint for the insight.

actually, full sail graduates tend to think they will have a job when out...i don't know exact #'s but for the amount of engineers out there, it's gotta be 20 to 1 for finding a job. good luck though.....

I have a friend who went to fullsail and now he installs security systems. I have a degree in telecommunications from a 4 yr school and I am quite lucky that my internship location hired me when I graduated... I think that you are the only one who can decide what school is better FOR YOU.

As for being a 'coffee bitch' I never had to do that. It really depends on where you go to get a job. Keep in mind that most schools have placement programs for graduates and unless you are planning on staying in florida after you graduate, Fullsail may not be able to help you. If you go to school here your chances are better of finding a job here after graduation.

Yeah, I know that only I can really decide. I am just seeking opinions on both schools to possibly help decide what would be better. I plan on busting my ass either way it goes.

Sadly though, busting your ass is not what will get you in the door. It helps but its really more about who you know and just plain dumb luck. I'm sure you will do well where ever you decide to go as long as you keep up the attitude that you seem to have already... Good luck to you either way...

Good thing for me I somewhat have my foot in the door by knowing a few "certain" people already in the industry. But I would rather not have to use them. I would rather be able to look back one day and tell myself that i did it on my own. Thanks for the supprt though.

I visited my friend who was in Full Sail last year and he took me around the school. Very cool. He's graduated and now does stuff w/Universal Studios. He LOVED the school but keep in mind it is not cheap. Worth it though from what he says.

Neither, unless you plan on doing a shit load of terrible gigs....I have a degree from Sheffield, which is in pheonix, md by the way and probably just as close as omega...and I believe it 's teachers are better instructors...that being said I love music, the "industry", whatever ...I graduated near the top of my class(about 20 kids)..and I could not find a job to save my ass...I tried radio, tv, even clubs...sadly after many weeks the only job I could get was running a board at one of these mega-churches where they go all out on sound-systems...I spent about $10,000 of mine and my parents money and came out with a peice of paper that didn't mean shit...however I did learn a lot about sound, how it works, and the equipment used in recording...had a great time and met some pretty cool cats..so I guess it wasn't a total loss.....the reason 90% of the people wouldn't hire me is because they had mass comm. majors with 4 year degree's applying for the same job...they wouldn't even let me intern..they had so many students applying...(cbs, fox, clearchannel, etc.)...this was about 6 years ago though so maybe this has changed, but I doubt it it's pretty much like julie said.."who you know"..which is unforunate, because I know that I knew my way around the board better than any of those four year students...Full sail is top notch, but top dollar...my advice would be there...but don't hold your breath on maintaining a job for any real length of time..or getting paid shit...good luck..
