    why is everything closing?

first i get an email saying that metatrack is closing thereby killing my plans of going to dj school. then i hear that yoshi toshi is closing which gets rid of the only record store in this entire area. whats going on? all our resources are being eliminated one by one.

I don't know, i'm not having a problem with it. Clubs will always be aorund with the newest hotest shit. So...... blah.

but on another note, yoshi LOST their lease. So, they COULD open up else where, but i don't know if they are. Its not like they were doing bad business. Could ahve been better though. Meta is because zelda is moving because of family. Everything has a reason. relax.

Rave is dead or dying certainly from a financial standpoint. Everything is down, from club attendance to record sales to participation in mailing lists. As the rave scene blew up over the course of the last decade or so, it has gone through various stages of death and rebirth, but only over the last few years did the business aspect of it really take over. Raving became a marketing ploy, a fad like disco in the seventies, that distorted and really sort of undermined everything that raving was supposed to be about in the first place. Now it's not "cool" anymore, but the question is will the hardcore loyalists who were driven away by the crassness of the last few years return to the fold, or will they be out doing something different?

My guess is that we are on the brink of a new underground scene, one that may draw from the rave scene but will be fundamentally different (at least to begin with). Keep your head down...

:werd: thats exactly how i feel about it. that these "old skoolers" will go on to start families, just as our rents did when they're scene was dying. And the early starters will experiance and start a new scene. Something awesome and spectacular. Something even old skool ravers won't understand.

"old schoolers", as you say, did not create the scene, but merely embraced it and evolved with it.
Just as the "new schoolers" will.

No such thing as old school or new school... there are simply people who know certain things, and people who don't. you could probably spend a day on the internet and become as 'old school' as some people out there.
