The reason I bumped the headphone thread is because I have what I assume is a short in my current headphones. The right side doesn't work. Is this something fixable?

most likely it is a short in the plug. you can buy a new plug from radio shack, then cut off the end from your set of phones - cut about 1 inch or so above the plug itself, then strip the wires, and solder them to the new plug. costs like $5 to fix
I agree with Zar. When mine cut out one side, the problem was in the plug, not the headset. A $3/10 min repair.
Who here knows how to solder and can help me tonight? I don't have equipment.
do they work in other mixers and not yours cause i could see it not working in your mixer from pulling the earphones around...this happened in my vestex...

In my experience, Pro-DJ headphones break in two places. One is at the joints on the actual headband. It's hard as shit if not impossible to do much about that, especially if it's plastic (MDR-700's are notorious for this).
The other place is where the wires from the cord are soldered into the plug. Happens a lot if you have a tendency to walk away from the mixer and the cord is pulled sideways/stretches. This can be fixed rather easily by cutting off the plug about an inch up, stripping the plug open until you have all the leads exposed, and soldering them back on. Or just taking your happy ass to Radio Shack and buying a new plug.
Unforch, the former happens way more often than the latter.
After two sets of MDR-700's, I'd never get those things again. Crappy ass weak plastic.
