Thumbs up Scared of the Basslines pt 2

alright well this brings up another question that I've been thinking about a lot since I do tend to play songs with REALLY heavy basslines and tend to be somewhat dark. But for real, just because it's heavy doesn't mean it's dark. Examples of songs that I don't find dark that some people have said were dark:

    Autobots remix of Perception

    Punks

    The Slammer

    now These are Dark

    Rockweiller

    I can't stand it and C-2-It

    Imagine the Future

all the songs are links, and the poll is multiple choice

not sure if i like those distorted bass tracks. i like my dark/evil shit through atmosphere as opposed to it being hammered over the head with it via a bassline.

but that "punks" track is dope as hell.

and i haven't figured out how to vote yet. i may wimp out and vote the "pretty" option.

I think a good example is alot of Dan F. Real heavy slung bassline, but I dont take as dark, although dark is good :raveon:

I love me some basslines, but these days, with the Nu Skool sound entering it's 5th year (dating it's birth around 1998) I tend to steer away from tracks that still go for that "colon response" bass.

You know... the basslines that are like "BOOORRR BORRRRRR BLAAAAAH BOOOOOOOO". Super duper dark, in other words. The same sounds can only be reused so many times before it is officially PLAYED OUT.

So yeah, innovation is obviously the key to keeping me interested. Dunno about you all.

    hehe :)

honestly i like the really sub-bass basslines of dark jungle and dark dnb. i just think that's more fun than some of these nu skool breaks.

:werd: switchstance. a whole set full of tracks with bowel-loosening sub-bass sounds can get kinda ho-hum. gotta switch that shit up, make the kiddies appreciate it when it does drop in one or two tracks in a set.

evil breaks i've been feelin lately (though not very underground):

ils - music (evil 9 rmx) (2nd half of the sample)

    hybrid - celebrity science

    dylan rhymes - muzika

    no sub-bass sounds, but E V I L.

no doubt.. a whole set of the "nu skool breakbeats braaar raaar raaaar raaaar" dilutes those asskickers. But that's where the dj comes in to play instead of the producers. Set flow is very important. I may have the aim name mechanoiseboy and made a mix that was quite dark doesn't mean that's all I'm going to play.

not all of us have been in to breaks as long as yourself and still are hungy for that kind of bass, and jathan, big bass doesn't mean super duper dark.

I'm into the "dark, but not opressively dark" style shit. Some tracks that come to mind:

    Nubreed - Midi Killer
    Leuroj - Isakora (Bushwhacka mix)
    Big Head - Luv Live

and a whole slew of others I'm not able to remember at this time. Although, I'm a little bit more into the proggy side of nuskoll then the str8 up jungly sounding shit anyway. I go for atmosphere and melody with my boomin' basslines.....

no doubt, I'll play those first three, but those last three and other samples I used are kinda over the top for the average listener, and I'm not gonna try and shoot myself in the foot.

I wasn't sayin' it was. I guess um, I should have been more specific by clarifying the same thing you mentioned... that you have to change it up.

You cannot have a whole set of the same shit or yeah, it gets stale. We are all feeling the breakbeat fusion, I know this.
