Right now I'm using Jonathan Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner and I love it but as with all shampoo's and conditioner's you have to rotate them and I'm looking for something comparable. I'm considering going back to Redken, but would like to try something new, any suggestions ladies?

Frederick Fekkai is the absolute most amazing I've ever used ( I like his "Technician" stuff), but its some serious $$$ for shampoo.
Have you tried any of the other Jonathan products? I have Dirt and although its not bad I was expecting much better. I need a new pomade/wax product and new hairspray if anyone wants to throw those suggestions into the mix.

Create Weightless Smooth No-Frizz Hydrating Balm
What it is:
A smoothing, hydrating, frizz-taming styling balm.
What it is formulated to do:
This lightweight styling treatment hydrates, controls frizz, and smoothes and softens even the driest hair. It shields the hair from environmental damage and color fading, improves manageability, adds shine, and smoothes damaged hair cuticle (the hair's outer-most layer).
What else you need to know:
This product is 100 percent vegan, contains no animal, wheat gluten, or gluten-derived ingredients. Silky dirt is also free of mineral oil, synthetic colors, and DEA.
I have this and I like it very much.
I've been meaning to try Frederick Fekkai's line. It's probably comparable in price to Jonathan products.

Sebastian has an obscure line called "Body Double". I have the shampoo, conditioner and mousse, called 'Thickify Styler'. The smell reminds me of an Armani cologne, but it's feminine, and I adore it.
I doubt it's meant to protect color-treated hair, but I haven't found it to be especially damaging to my color.

No it's more of a smoothing balm. Depending on whether or not I'm straightening my hair I go between that and the CHI Silk Infusion.

B&B is definitely fabulous, but definitely expensive as hell. I was once talked into a 40$ tin of styling goo by a stylist, and I had to start mixing the goo with other goo once I got down to the last half ounce. Mmm, hair crack.

Man, these threads always make me feel less like a woman. I buy whatever is under $6 and has a cute bottle and catchy name ("None Of Your Frizzness, you say? I'll take it!")
But it's got me thinking: this is our hair we're talking about here. Why wouldn't I spend a little more money to buy a more quality product? I guess I always figured shampoo is shampoo is shampoo.
I'm going to take notes and buy a salon-quality shampoo/conditioner this week. It sounds like it works wonders for some of you ladies.

Great thread, I've been searching for a shampoo and conditioner that I'll actually be happy with.
Since I've been really happy with mop's styling products, yesterday I picked up a bottle of their conditioner from the "glisten" line (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/sm-mop-glisten-conditioner-12-50--pi-2366355.html). I'll report back with my results after several days' of use

I've been annoyingly frugal with my beauty/health products since moving. Maybe I can avoid some of the sticker shock by keeping my "cute bottle" shampoo and investing in a good conditioner instead.

Once you bring yourself to accept spending the extra money, you'll see where it goes.
Before I started working in a salon, I really didn't care. Then I got to sample all the stuff that I had deemed unecessary, and I went to a few classes that taught me a lot about caring for your hair with quality vs. cheapness. Now I preach about biting the bullet and spending your money on a product that's going to be worthwhile in the long run.
Let us know what you decide to try.

Pantene's shampoo strips your hair of its oils, and the conditioner contains wax that is supposed to give the illusion of a lustrous shine. But that conditioner interferes with your scalp's natural ability to replace its own oil, and eventually you could be dealing with harsh over-drying or oily build-up that leads to dandruff.
I hate Pantene. I want it to die.

I've heard bat things about it too, but when I use it occasionally, it doesn't cause problems for me. I do think it fucked with my hair when my hair was really unhealthy late-spring/early-summer, but that's b/c I was using it a lot more. I also do not like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Conditioner; you might as well just skip conditioner for all it's worth, and if it dries on your shower walls, it's a pain in the ass to scrub off.
But anyway, if you can spring for something that's a bit more money, I'd say it's worth it.

You must have the same hair chemistry as those women who would refuse my recommendations. "I've been using Pantene for years, I don't need to switch." And I would reply, "well, your hair's pH must be so accustomed to being out of balance that it decided to adapt." And they would scoff at me and flip their hair, lol.

One shampoo/conditioner that I don't like is Paul Mitchell stuff. I have the kind of shampoo for colored hair at home. It smells great but it never seems to lather. WTF. I do like Paul Mitchell's hair products tho. When I had really short spikey hair I lived by Bed Head/Paul Mitchell products to get that spikey effect.

It's true, I've experienced it firsthand. However, I ran the salon, I was not a stylist. Most stylists will push and push because they earn commission on the products they sell and they are assigned a quota for the week. I didn't make any money, I was just suggesting the right products for their hair type.
Trust me, the same women who would scoff and flip were the anti-tippers (the kind that not only do not tip, but find reasons to get a discounted price for their service).
If you got badgered, I suspect your stylist was a greedy hair-nazi, and I recommend people stay clear of those.

Tresemme is not as taboo as Pantene, but it's not considered an overall quality line. I've gotten different opinions over time. Some products were okay, some were made cheaply, one stylist loved the hairspray but hated the shampoo, another hated the hairspray but loved the gel, etc etc.
I don't think the ingredients are as good as those that you would find in a more expensive brand. However, for the price, it's a step up IMO.

It's true. And it is definitely one thing that'll make your stylist give a fuck less about you when you come back to them.

Some stylists are being sincere, but for the most part, that talk is indeed BS. We had a workshop for our stylists that encouraged them to use sales-person-esque tactics (I disapproved of the corporate-ness and eventually lost my job, LOLZ). It's effective to tell someone that their current hairdo is a spoof of quality when you didn't do it and get to remake it. Then you do it differently and pat yourself on the back out loud. Sadly, it's brilliant marketing and a lot of gals get suckered into becoming regulars when they hear that crap.

Technically, you are supposed to switch up your shampoo/conditioner as often as your toothbrush. Your hair can and will acclimate to the products you are using, lessening their effectiveness. So keep on keeping on!

Sweet, more questions.
I noticed CVS carries a few different brands of salon products but on the bottle it usually says something like "ONLY sold in salons." But they all look like the real deal. Can I just buy from there?
I bought a Matrix straightening spray to use before I flat iron my hair. I noticed it leaves a slightly "tacky" feel to my hair after applying, instead of like a conditioned feel. Is this normal? I thought maybe it was necessary to protect the hair when flat ironing but I'm not too sure...

I suck at being a girl when it comes to hair. I own one can of hairspray that I've probably had for several years, and I buy whatever shampoo/conditioner is on sale or is a store brand. As long as it cleans and detangles, it works for me.

That's just my personal opinion. If it works for you that's great. I just didn't care for it.

I think different hair types work with different products no? So not every product will work well with everyone.
God damn I'm smart.

I think I could've gotten any product and it would've made an immediate difference, mainly because my hair's just relieved that I used anything but the stuff I'm using now (which I've been using nonstop for, oh, 6-7 months.)

I switch shampoo and conditioner about once a week just to get any build up off my hair. I should be using a Clarifying shampoo though.

Is there any brand that works well for colored hair or are they all pretty much the same? I currently have a Paul Mitchell Color Protectant shampoo but am not happy w/it. I usually go drug store with shampoo's and spend more on conditioners.

I really liked my new Apple Cider Fekkai stuff, which I used last night.

I just spent 50 buckolas on Matrix stuff last night...bah.
I didn't recognize any of the brands so I panicked and went with the Matrix sleek.look line because well, to be honest...Matrix is a dnb producer and it just felt comforting.
I will say that I definitely noticed a difference in the way my hair felt after using the shampoo and conditioner. I'm just undecided about the straightening spray.
I used to use that stuff, it was a bad idea for me since I have stick straight hair. The way my stylist explained it to me (since I told her this crap I bought wasn't working) is that it has a product in it that builds up on your hair to relax it. Her daughter (who had uber curly hair) used it and loved it.

I don't know if it's already been said but I steal my mom's KMS stuff when I see her. I think it's called KMS. Their hair products are great if you got frizzies. I used to use this thing called Flat Out.
that is what i recommend as well. they are currently having a special at ULTA where you get the shampoo and then the anti-frizz gel for $19.95. they are typically $15 each.

im a big fan of
www.sexyhair.com
products
the soy milk very healthy hair is my fav.. I love the way it makes my hair look and smell
though I havent been able to bring myself to spend the $$ on it as of late.. if you dont get it on sale its $20 (per shampoo and conditioner) they sometimes have deals though, both for $20
i also use their frizz eliminator, which seems to work great - I havent been using it now that im on pantene because it makes my hair too oily with the combo - but i think I remember someone mentioning earlier about pantene having a problem doing that to your hair.. time to switch!
