That is the stupidest publicity stunt i have ever seen.
Commercial branding pisses me off.

What's the big deal?
If you can mix on a laptop with auto bpm'ing software, I don't see where the problem is.

they are using EDM/DJ culture to sell their cell phone. I had the same reaction to the SCION people hanging out at nation and offering free oakenfold tickets to people who test drive their cars. I just have a problem with commercial branding in general. I prefer not to be a walking bilboard my self. Try to wear clothes that don't have overt advertising on them unless it cant be avoided.
It bothers me because i want our scene to be about the music and not about selling the next product whether it be a car or a new cellphone. That is what is wrong with most music scenes is it is over commercialized.
Somebody djing on a laptop inst trying to sell that laptop. But if you watch that video again it is clearly a commercial for that phone. I don't have a problem with how the music is performed, i have a problem with the over commercialization of the scene, it wont be ling before it is sponsored by corporations and you cant crap with out wiping your ass on an advertisement.

gee whizz, i wonder why it is that most musicians don't take dj's seriously.oh, right, because some asshole helps further that by making it seem like this is ok. i mean, imagine next time you go out, you see someone play a set on 2 phones. i don't know about you, but that would surely be my last night out. ever. fuck that phone, and fuck that guy for making it seem like thats ok. i think i wanna try and play a set on 2 of those old simon games, now that'd be cool.

but yea...the phone thing is kinda gimickey.

I don't see what all the negative ruckus is about. The technology is getting miniaturized and easier to use; that's forward progress for the technology.
Besides, if DJ music-oriented businesses don't take advantages of all opportunities to advertise, what's the point of operating a music label or manufacturing a mixer? For "the love of DJ music?" What bullshit: that won't pay the bills.
Advertising is as much a part of modern life as urban music.

agreed. not saying they are. saying that my friends that are in bands that hate the music i like will see this, call me, and go, see. that's all. djing is not taken seriously as an artform by a lot of people in bands is more the point i was making. and they''ll see this and it'll be more of a joke to them. i see this as a step backward.

...until your band friends get schooled by a DJ who can bring two 180-piece orchestras' worth of sound to the tables if they like, while your band friends are stuck with whatever sound they can make themselves. Turntables outsell guitars for a reason.

fucking right. i know this and you know this. but they do not know this. nor do they bother to try and know this. i always tell them, you just don't like it because you tell yourself not to, and you just haven't heard breaks or drum n bass. then they make the oontz sound at me. then i remind them that strings, and sticks and skin are all cavemanish in theory, and how many times will you play the same 12 chords before deciding you'd like to create a sound unheard before?

Because you need two turntables to play and only one guitar?

Are CD decks being counted in now? Or is it still just guitars vs vinyl turntables?
I bought a guitar recently btw, although I still can't play it for shit.

Are you guys seriously saying that a dj is elite over all other musicians
I mean, that's just stupid.
Almost as stupid as genre superiority arguments.

nobody said that, so maybe read a little closer to the screen. i said that my friends in bands do not take dj's or their music seriously, and the mobile phone dj set will do nothing but play into why people in bands don't take djs seriously, thats all. noone said anything about being elite, in fact that's everything wrong with our scene today. elitism sucks, but it'd be nice to have, at least the people i know, take us seriously as an artform, and as a musical genre. even if all the genres are techno, to them.

Maybe in the future someone could do a DJ set at Ministry with a can of Spam (http://www.spam.com/).
Then another video could be made showing a DJ fiddling with a mixer that has a can of Spam next to it.

I felt the same way when I started seeing commercials on TV that used DJing or turntables.
*The Coca-Cola one with the underground radio station.
*Numerous cell phone commercials
*Lots of products aimed at kids/young adults
A representation of a turntable will fly by or some DJing will be happening for a sec or two.
And none of the products were DJ related and most had nothing to do with music.
It's like, hey, if we throw some shit about DJing in our add we will make $X.
It pisses me off because I know gosh darn good and well that none of the suits responsible for these adds know shit about DJing or EDM etc, and maybe never made an attempt to.
It's not like I have talked to any of these people but I suspect they don't know much.

to buzzboy:
if corporations want to pick up a song, who cares. its great that the artists can actually make some money off shit. EDM is used everywhere, car commercials, movies. would you rather not hear EDM at all cept for the clubs? The only problem is when people try to make music FOR the corporations and sell out artistically. But EDM is so smallbeans in general still that in the cases so far, I bet all these artists had no clue some corp would pick up their music. i have no problem with people taking their good music and trying to profit additionally from it. they deserve it.

Nothing, it's just as artistically valid as mixing with a cell phone.
