from youdroppedabongonme's post in another thread (sorry man I forgot your name, I met you once like a year and a half ago)

The semester is starting. Kids are coming back into UMD, GW, George Mason, Georgetown, AU, MC, Galludet (for the dnb promoters)...

Who wants to do a split mix CD? 20-30 minutes each, track it, make a thousand copies, and go give these out at the college radio stations and campus lounges?

comment here or PM me, let's make it happen in September.

I'll even be happy to buy a domain name and host a small EDM "portal", one page site that links to the promotion companies involved in this effort.

Cheers

ok now that miguel took my joke.. :whack:

I'm thinking accessible EDM. Funky/deep house, fun breaks, jump-up dnb, vocal proggy stuff... geared toward people that are currently unfamiliar with dance music.

that is the TRUTH. Much easier to get people to listen to a CD than to an MP3, as well.

Where are you going to distribute yours? We should get like four people together and hit campuses one at a time.

This is a cool idea.. i'd be down for contributing a "fun breaks" mix... plus I already have web space if anything needed to be hosted...

I'm still on the idea of passing around cassette tapes.
I don't know how many college kids have cassette players.
It would be different though.
A while ago I was gonna make Fever tapes but the Sony cassette deck didn't work.
I got discouraged and haven't worked on the idea since.
I'm 100% sure that tons of kids would gravitate towards EDM if they were exposed to it.
It would be nice to see a Honda or what not full of kids blasting House or DnB etc... instead of Hip-hop.

hahah I had to go buy a fucking Walkman over the summer because I got a tape I really wanted to listen to and was ready to rock out to it before I remembered I haven't had a working tape deck for my stereo since 1998! Hilarious.

Yeah, handing out CDs is definitely at staple of building a following.

I just hate -making- CDs, and I won't hand them out unless they're absolutely perfect. I think the process of mixing a demo is the most frustrating and annoying part of DJing.

Some of my best demos have been done in one take, but some other ones have taken dozens of attempts to get one without a serious fuck up.

Listening to one's own kick ass mix is also very rewarding.
They are a pain in the ass to make but it's worth it.
