yeah, my fitness first had them free today. i drank one during my chest and tri's today, and i did go a bit longer then normal, but that could just be coincedence. it kind of tastes like ass when not cold, i took a second one, that is in the fridge for tomorrows lift, see if the results are the same.
bit too much sugar in it though, to become a normal drink for me. ill stick to my Spiz for before and during workout drinks

YES! Has to be really cold. But it still was WAY too sugary for me.
but they are on the right track with the added protein. God knows how fucking hard it is to get more than 200 or so grams in you a day.
I may just turn into a fish/chicken with as much of it as I eat.

there are other sports replenishing products out there with protein, I may start getting some gels for those long rides so I don't bonk out on the way home.... hmmm.. maybe it was the accelgel that I saw at the store though..

Well....I'm diabetic, and it is very difficult for me to find anything that isn't loaded with sugar and carbs.
Any recommendations?

The digestive system can't efficiently draw protein out of liquids: stick to water. It's free at the gym and it's what your body needs most working out anyway, not sugar and additives.

I use it when i road bike, for normal lifting i'd rather use energy supps
It's really nice, worth buying IMO

Well, with high intensity work, carbs are essential and very, very necessary, along with water and protein. I agree that for normal gym workouts you're better off using the water dispensing robot, but for any prolonged intensity you'll be better off balancing the accelerade and the water. Too much of either and you will collapse from lack of the other.

i know i have mentioned it before, but i have really been liking the mix of nutrients that Spiz (www.spiz.net (http://www.spiz.net) ) has. i just finished my first can of it off, and i definitely can recomend it now. i take two or three scoops about 35 minutes or so before i workout, depending on the time i will be in the gym that day.
the accelerade is just too high in sugar for me, i will usually stick to Propel, since its very low on everything.

Yeah, accelarade is super sugary, i have to dilute it a lot during a ride or anything. I'll look into spiz...seems like a solid product

i have used spiz myself, so i know that one does me good, but one of the guys at work does triathalons, and for training and competing, he swears by hammer nutrition products.

I don't work out nearly enough to justify drinking a sports drink that has calories in it. It defeats my purpose.
That's why I stick to Xyience Xenergy, the officlal energy drink of the UFC.

The HEED™ one seems like a really good pick. I'd never buy the other drink powders (Perpetuem, etc) because they contain soy isolates...and I hope that most males know the effect of soy on testosterone and the androgenic effects it has. Tons of medical studies on that.

i dont, actually, know the effects of soy. i know the gym jones guys have mentioned perpetuem in a few of the articles there, and i know soy protien and whey protien do different levels of work for ya. but please elaborate

Yes please do elaborate. I make my protein shakes with whey but use soy milk sometimes.

Well, it contains phytoestrogens. Soy isn't a complete protein really; and the amount of protein in it is not as bioavailable as whey/casein, and the absorption rate is somewhere around 10-15% lower than animal protein I believe. On the protein isolate scale it ranks the lowest, behind casein / whey isolate / etc.

http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soyinfo/a/soy.htm
Honestly the whole thyroid thing really isn't something to worry about imo. But, heavy supplementation of soy protein can lead to gyno like effects (man boobs).
In the end, a little won't kill you or give you man boobs, but it's a rather worthless supplement for my money - there's far better stuff out there.
I could pull up pubmed stuff but I'm lazy right now and eating a steak

So really it's not that it's bad to have it - using the milk every once and a while is fine, eating it is fine - but directly spending money on it for supplementation, not a wise choice financially / etc. I'm always really stingy about supps too because with the prices they charge for shit nowadays, i'd say the majority of guys who spend cash on energy boosters, creatine, BCAA/recovery/joint supps, whey, etc., could honestly run a solid cycle + PCT for a lot cheaper. So much money in the supp industry.

pubmed's got a lot up there, I was doing some searches there to do some research on protein intake and found all sorts of good articles. Plus I can look up other sites through the JHU library login.
My vegan coworker just tried to convince me that there are weightlifters out there who don't need to eat meat, so I just referenced one of hte articles that found out how much more efficiently the body utilized milk protein compared to soy. There was another study that also showed that a glass of milk is as good as any sports drink to reduce recovery time.

interesting on the Soy part. my brother is lactose intolerant, (damn intolerance!!) so he had to switch to soy milk to do his protien shakes. he hasn't had any bad side effects or anything, and its been a year or so plus now.
as for the Hammer Nutrition products, i am currently on my last can of Spiz, and was thinking about trying either the Perpetuem or the one of the hammer gells as a pre workout, pre lift, pre run, type of supplement. although, i am considering just getting some more spiz, its all around just a great product.
thoughts?

Unfortunately my feedback on pre-WO supplements sucks, since none have ever worked for me :( I've heard good things about Redline, AMP, Red Blast, Cardio Breeze, White Blood, Primal N20, etc...but I either feel nothing from em or I get a little shaky and that's it. At this point I think the only thing that could possibly give me solid energy pre-WO is a shot of test susp haha. It's ok though, because usually after 1 set of squats/deads my internal engine is pretty revved up as is, so i just stick to a good meal 45 mins before and some gatorade.

thats where the spiz comes in nicely, i do 3 or 4 scoops of that about 30 minutes before i get to the gym, then do a 15 to 20 minute warmup on the treadmill, then go right into lifting, and it works great for me.
i just ordered two sample packs of the Hammer gells, 19 bucks for 18 of those, take them ten minutes before workout, and i will see what they do for me

and yes, milk does a body good, lol I'm not the kind of person to use supplements, but have read several studies about timing of food after workouts so I have been drinking a glass of milk after the workouts, and gatorade after the long rides.
