Is that physicians formula mineral make up just as good as the everyday minerals? I bought some in a rush the other day, and I really like it. I can apply it thick or thin, and get great coverage, in my color, for $6. But I'm wondering if it's as high quality.
My secret: My husband has to pick out my foundation color in order for it to match when I get home. I don't know why. I can't do it myself.

Oh I like it fine. I'm just wondering about the quality compared to everyday minerals. If the everyday minerals stuff is a higher quality, I may just want to order that. My skin is sensitive to breaking out.

Just asked my friend who knows more about makeup than everyone else I know put together (literally she will research it--ingredients, additives, parent companies, *everything*, for hours at a time)...the verdict is that Physicians Formular is definitely okay, but if you're trying to choose between the two, then yes, Everyday Minerals is better quality.
I honestly don't dig the everyday minerals. I like the eyecolor, but the foundation is meh to me. Probably just not enough coverage for my liking.
I went to Macy's after work and bought new makeup. I love buying new makeup. :eee:
I spent damn near $100 though. Lousy Shiseido and their super awesome eyeshadow palettes. So awesome but sooooo expensive. :ripped:
Makeup is one thing that I will always splurge on. I use it everyday, so I get my money's worth. And I unfortunately cannot wear grocery store stuff. It makes my skin break out like no one's business. I'd rather pay $20-30 for foundation from a department store and have my skin look decent than pay $7 at Giant and be Pimply McPimpleson.
I think I might go back this weekend. I saw some stuff from Prescriptives that I'd like to get. And you get a free gift if you spend $32 or more.
I haven't bought new makeup in what seems like forever. I'm excited right now.

Agreed. I'm always willing to try new things, but I notice what works and what doesn't, and over time I've realized I'd rather put in a little bit more money and get one good thing than fly through three diff products trying to find a "yes".

I'm a makeup whore and I love splurging on the good stuff. You can get away with some cheap stuff but other times you can just feel that it's cheap when it's on and I hate that. Shiseido's eye make up is amazing. Especially anything with glitter in it, beautiful. I'm past my glitter days but I did just check out some black liquid eyeliner with glitter in it, wore it to STB on Friday, it's not amazing beyond reason, but a cool idea. I think it would have looked better without the eyeshadow.

I find the everyday minerals "intesnive" is pretty good coverage. I can't use transparent powder foundations either, or I look funny. The intensive works well for me.

when you guys say "everyday minerals," what are you referring to? Because I know I've compared Physician's Formula to Bare Minerals, and I can't stand PF after using Bare Minerals. I know it's more expensive, but I'm really sensitive to breaking out as well - and the Bare Minerals has actually helped my acne clear up. I personally think it's well worth the extra money, especially considering I don't wear it every day.

at least to try, it doesn't look any different than Bare Minerals, and it's less expensive. I'm all over this.
MAC makes a "mineralized" face powder now as well. I have had issues with breaking out with the PF and Bare Minerals versions of this stuff, but not with MAC. I have always worn MAC though, so maybe it's just what I am use to.
The MAC stuff is called Mineralize Skinfinish.

So for the ladies that have hyper sensitive breakout prone skin, what kind of skincare do you use? I've never had too many issues, but in the last few months (I blame getting off of hormonal birth control) I've been super pimple-prone. Which sucks. Women should stop having to deal with that once they hit the mid twenties!

Honestly, I only use Seabreeze after exfoliating so it closes up my pores before adding any makeup and then a layer of Clinique moisturizer. I've done this for years and I consider myself lucky for barely ever breaking out. If I do it's because it's been one of those weekend where I've had to schlep around in old makeup, but even then it's minor and taken care of in a week.

You keep saying really good things about that line... maybe I should try it. Is there a store somewhere I can get it or do I have to order it from a rep?
From what I understand, microdermabrasion is like a face scrub on crack- it literally scrubs away the top layer of skin, so your face it left super smooth, and all the dead skin cells are gone.

I have a rep though if you wanted to try products for free. Also next time we hang out you should come over, or if I go to you I'll bring the microdermabrasion and you can try it. Using a rep is the best though I think b/c they go through a lot of training (mine did, at least) and she is spot on in everything she's said and/or predicted about my skin.
Example, my skin was getting flaky yet blemished all winter and I thought it was mostly due to its lack of natural exfoliation (b/c it isn't awesome at turnover), but I truly was drying it out too much. I started using TimeWise® 3-In-1 Cleanser (normal to dry) (http://www.marykay.com/skincare/antiaging/10869400/10869400/default.aspx) and TimeWise® Age-Fighting Moisturizer (normal to dry) (http://www.marykay.com/skincare/antiaging/10862800/10862800/default.aspx) along with the TimeWise® Microdermabrasion Set (http://www.marykay.com/skincare/antiaging/timewisemicrodermabrasionset/default.aspx) and it started to clear up and look much better, not to mention smoother.
Now that it's summer, I still use the same cleanser and microdermabrasion, but I use the TimeWise® Age-Fighting Moisturizer (combination to oily) (http://www.marykay.com/skincare/antiaging/10862600/10862600/default.aspx) :)
Also the cool thing about MK is that if you don't like a product, you can return it and get your money back--that goes for the makeup, too :eee:

It's light and gives poor coverage from my experience. It takes layers and layers of it to look the way it's supposed to. I remember watching some sort of behind the scenes of J-Lo's 'Waiting for Tonight' video from yeeeeaaars ago and they used airbrushed foundation on her then and all you see is them applying and re-applying layer after layer.
I don't recommend it

I just started using Bare Minerals and I LOVE it! It doesn't feel heavy or like I'm wearing any make up at all. I'm really excited to try the eye shadow colors!
I was just reading through this thread and whoever mentioned the free sample kit from Everyday minerals, thank you! I'd like to try different mineral sets to see which one I like best. Bare Minerals is my second set and I really like it but wouldn't mind giving the every day one a try because it seems a little less expensive.
Ever since Lauren/Funshine posted that link to the to eye makeup tutorial, I've been trying a bunch of new colors & techniques too! Very excited!

I still haven't tried any brands of mineral makeup. I'm so stubborn I can't get past the hype--and more importantly, I like makeup to be FAST, which does not involve mixing things and layering a bunch of different powders with a bunch of different brushes.
Maybe someday. Like at a store, so I don't have to do it. :D
My only complaint about Everyday Minerals is that it doesn't give me enough coverage. That's a personal issue though.

If something doesn't offer enough coverage, it has failed to do its job for me (speaking in terms of foundation).

Personally, I enjoy the amount of coverage it provides me... it's light, it covers, and it doesn't clog my skin.
But.. again.. that's a personal issue, you know? My skin type is very very different from Liz's.

I actually tried everyday minerals for a few months instead of my usual bare minerals. At first I liked it, although it didn't give as much coverage... but eventually I didn't like it as much.
I noticed that when I first started using Bare Minerals my complexion got better and healthier looking. After a couple months of the Everyday Minerals my complexion was dull and ruddy. So I switched back to bare minerals and now my complexion looks a lot better. There is something in there that does really good things for my skin.
It does take a bit longer to put on mineral make up than a standard liquid, however I definitely think its worth it.
As for coverage, I always thought bare minerals gave great coverage. It gives me better coverage than any liquid I've ever tried and is much lighter.

from my experience brand matters as well as the kind of brush.
when i first started using bare mineral a long time ago I was using a flimsy powder brush. it didnt give me much coverage and just generally didn't look awesome. Then one day I was with my mom (who got me started on BM) and she got me to let the make up artist at her salon do it for me (she was there getting more BM and that is the makeup they use there). When the professional did it, she explained to me that you have to use a kabuki brush to get full coverage and it looked so much better when she did it. So I bought a kabuki brush that day and from then on I was totally hooked.

Im not sure if EM would have the same effect on everyone, but for me, I don't think it was so much the make up going bad (although I know it is possible for it to get contaminated) as it was just not enriching my skin.
A lot of it may have to do with different skin types reacting to things differently, but when I was on EM, my skin broke out more, was redder, and completely lost that glow I used to have around my high cheekbone area. for some reason it just was clogging my poor and preventing skin renewal or something (my guess of why my skin got so dull).
I know that bare minerals claims to have a lot of stuff that is really good for your skin in it and its cool to sleep in etc.... and even though I don't know the scientifics, I would guess that there is some truth to that. When i use it I rarely break out (and when i do, its not cuz of the makeup), and my skin is "glowier". Also, BM covers my freckles better which is a serious plus in my book.
I don't know if Everyday minerals has stuff in it that is good for your skin or not, maybe it does, it just wasn't good for mine. If it isn't negatively effecting your skin or dulling it down, I would definitely say to stick with it because it is much more reasonably priced.
