View Full Version : Metabolism Boosts After Exercising...

I know that your metabolism is increased for a while after you have a good workout, allowing you to burn calories at an elevated rate long after you've done your workout. Hence, I am really sensitive about drinking alcohol or taking naps, etc. after a workout because I don't want to fuck that up for myself... The question is, does taking a nap break that process? And the follow up is how long should I refrain from doing metabolism decreasing things like drinking a beer, etc. after a workout? Or am I making much ado about nothing...?

Much ado about nothing, your body is a highly efficient machine. Once you up your metabolism by regular exercise and a good diet, it doesn't "go away" just because you do some couch potatoe activities afterwards.

Hell after a work out I pretty much relax, but your body will still be burning calories at the rate it did somewhat when you were working out. But over the long run it gets better as you make exercise a habit.

Also, sleep helps in the repair of the muscles you break down during a workout, so drink a protein shake, or eat something with protein in after a good workout (and/or during) and having a good nap isn't a bad idea.

A nap is totally fine, but keep in mind that alcohol consumption lowers testosterone levels for the following 72 hours, and while it may not seem like it makes a difference with your training, chemically it does.

That's not to say to cut out any alcohol, fuck that, but probably not the best thing to have for a few hours prior or after a workout.
