It's just a concept and all that's been brought on by an Insurer over in the UK, but it's a good idea (still needs work with the style too...). Imagine being able to instantly knock down those stillettos at work to a flat as soon as you walk out the door? Or if you bit off more than you can chew and regret the heel choice you made when you were getting ready.

Hopefully some shoe designers will take notice and run with it...

Driving heel

Sheila’s Wheels launch Sheila’s Heels – a driving shoe for ladies that goes from flat to heel at the push of a button…

Besides looking glam – we don’t know about you but aesthetics always top our list when we’re cruising the M25 – the design concept is aimed at those 11.5 million women drivers in the UK who put themselves and others at risk by wearing the wrong footwear when they’re behind the wheel.

"Stilettos, sling-backs and strappy sandals aren't the sensible choice when it comes to controlling a car,” says Jacky Brown from Sheila’s Wheels. "Our Sheila Driving Heel design could provide safety-conscious female motorists with the ultimate driving shoe - allowing women to wear a safe flat shoe whilst driving, and a fashionable heel once they are out of the car."

Unlike your average pair of Jimmy Choos, Sheila’s Heels won’t get scuffed at the back – the heel tucks up and into the shoe – and won’t get caught under the pedal, thanks to the flat shoe option.

Head over to www.ilovesheilas.com to give your opinion on the 'Sheila Driving Heel'.

that's great until you are walking on high heels and all of the sudden the heel folds into the shoe :afterbuzz:

More than neato!

If someone turned the design into something more aestically pleasing? :badkitty:

Two shoes in one, and it would kill your need to always lug around a pair of flats as back up for when your heels start to kill you.

Looks like a shoe... feels like a slipper!

I like the concept, but I don't necessarily trust the stability of the heel when it's...engaged, or whathaveyou.

It would depend on how they set up the mechanism.

If some designer picked up the concept, it would definitely have to be a good name that I trust to not put out something shotty.

that's how i feel about zip-apart pants. =)

its a short, no its pants. Never worry about being dressed to warm or cold for the weather again. =)

I saw these on good morning america a while ago. One of the ladies was wearing them & said they were actually really comfortable, and so far she didn't have any problems with the heel and it felt stable - but I don't know how long she'd had them on for.

I love that they're trying to sell these as "driving shoes" - it isn't *that* hard to drive in flipflops/flats, leave them in your car & go to work in heels? That's what I do every day (and then get teased by Chris about how many pairs of shoes I have in my car...)

women shouldnt wear high heels :nono: as it keeps the calf in a short position for a long duration.

how does the back of the heal not get all skuffed up when you walk on them in flats?

Yeah, I was wondering that myself.

I suppose they're not really intended to be walked in like that?
