It seems there's enough chatter about it now.
:)
So yeah, I really want to take that stretch class celia, you feel SO GOOD when you take it ... after the feeling of wanting to die during class goes away.
I danced forever until I blew my knee. I'm just not built to dance, though I loved it. I probably would have done better to stick in contemporary rather than push myself so hard in classical ballet. I was in ballet (favorite), tap / jazz, modern. Did some swing, latin, and other kinds of workshops but nothing really stuck.

I took 10 years of tap Jazz and Ballet (from the ages of 3-13) and a couple years of Modern (12-15) and some random classes like swing and belly dance thrown in for good measure. I've been aching for years to get back into it.
I'm going to be going to this dance studio starting (hopefully) next week:
http://www.cbanva.com/
I've talked to the instructors and everyone is really nice. They're really flexible on dress code and what not for their adult members. I think I'm just going to start off with beginners ballet (seeing as I've been out of it for so long) and stretch and then maybe pick up Jazz and switch to intermediate ballet at a later date.
I've also looked a lot into this studio:
http://www.joyofmotion.org/
They have an insane array of classes and a ton of different locations.

I'm going to get back into stretch for a while first and see if I have the energy to pick up any dance classes. Really, I'd probably have the same problems I used to have, so I shouldn't bother. Plus with training four horses now, I don't really need to take on more.

That's awesome but it's all the way in DC. Not very practical with me working in McLean and living in Herndon.
But who knows. maybe I'll go check out a work shop some weekend

The place in herndon has no stretchy for the summer:
Dear Natasha,
We would love to have you in our stretch classes, unfortunately they are canceled for the summer due to our Summer Intensive program and a lack of interest in the evening stretch program. They will resume with an expanded schedule in the Fall and they are indeed handled on a drop-in basis. You may pay per class or buy a 10 class card which is good throughout the year. We are in the process of redoing our website and I hope to have the updated information on the site soon.
Our Jazz and Ballet evening classes do continue throughout the summer but with a blown out knee you probably want to avoid those (unless you want to try the Beginning Ballet which is taken very slowly).
I am sorry we don't have stretch for you this summer but we would be happy to have you in the Fall. If you have any further questions please let me know!
Sincerely,
Kim Brummett
CBA, Administrator
Bethesda would be good. That's closer for me from work.

If you guys wanna do Bethesda pick a date and time and give me some place to hang out for the hour or two before class. coming from McLean > coming from Herndon

Oh lord. That would be funny.
I've hung up my ballet stuff for good after this past semester. Way too much damage done to my knee. I had to sit down with the Head of the Theatre Department to talk about switching out my Dance classes (since I would have had to go to Ballet V) for more Art and Music classes. *sigh*

I've always wanted to learn how to belly dance. I took a class once and our teacher explained to us that belly dancing and stripping use the same movements except that in belly dancing a woman keeps her legs together at all times.

They have them at my gym but I can never get there in time. They're on Fridays at like 5:30 and I never get home until like 5:45

If anyone finds a decent spot to take belly dancing, can give me a ride in exchange for gas money on a frequent basis, and doesn't mind me coming with...
I'm in.
Totally, totally.

Also, my teacher told us that belly dancers have the best physical health of all dancers because the dance massages your internal organs.

My mother took belly dancing many many moons ago. So yeah, I've got more than a passing interest to get into it.

we'd have to start in the second summer session. Or go to a class that has drop in status.

Doing a drop in could be awesome. That way we'd get a better idea about taking a full class.

although they don't offer everything as drop in. I don't think they offer belly dancing but they do offer stuff like yoga and ballet and whatnot.

pole dancing is *SO* much fun. i used to be really good at it, but without a pole to practice on, i lose the muscle control for the harder stuff. doing spins and backwards spins is like riding a bike tho, as soon as i get on a pole i can instantly do it. i was trying to teach inna at club five a few nights when it was completely empty, but she didn't have the upper body strength for it...
still i want one of these SSOOOOOO bad.

When my girlfriend wants to take a "fun" class she usually ends up down at Joy of Motion in Dupont. There's also the studio in Chevy Chase, though. The Chevy Chase Ballroom is where they have swing dancing on Mondays and Fridays, and there are usually classes going on in the other studios at the time, so it's fun to watch. Speaking of swing dancing, anyone who wants to get into that should totally hit me up!

I'd looove to do a dance class.
When I was younger I did ballet for 12 years and hip hop/street dance for 3 years. I totally miss it.
For me tho, it's just finding the time.. which there will be less of once we move up to NoVA.
