:staats:
DC area gyms that have women's classes? A boxing specific place would be preferred since I don't really want to have to join another gym just to get that element in.
I want to get acquainted with the technique and the benefits you get from it (toning/definition/balance/core work/agility/a little self defense), doesn't even necessarily even have to have full on sparring, just intro stuff.
My biggest stress relief was going at it with a bag when I was going to Gold's gym, but my current place does't have one and I doubt I was even doing it right since I've never been show how to work with a bag.

I seem to remember Mike/Korbendallas posting something about boxing.
I'd found a place but I can't remember where, if I find it again I'll link you. I decided I ultimately didn't have the time for it and wanted to do Parkour instead though.

I knew there was a boxing place in Millersville near my old apartment, but I'm not sure of the set up of the place (female friendly? cost?) and the stupid website won't load.

I can find a ton of gyms that cater towards men, but only aerobic kick boxing for women.

I'm into Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazillian Juditzu...I LOVE it and it really tones you up granted you have to eat healthy too and IF you smoke, I wouldn't suggest kickboxing because depending on the instructor, it could vary from strength training or heavy cardio, techniques and women's self-defense..you will work alot of muscles you never knew you had, your arms, legs and abs will look really good
If you take classes you don't spar with each other especially if you are a beginner (liabilities, they wouldn't risk it)..they DO alot of partner or group incorporated stuff that helps work target areas...we work with medicine balls, rubber dummies, regular punching bags, quarter size punching bags, Anchored padded targets, hand targets, pilate balls, jump ropes, resistance bands, benches and tons of other things
You can wear just regular gym gear and you just need to buy boxing gloves

Muay Thai Kickboxing uses every part of the body is utilized to attack and defend. Muay Thai is more advanced and does not use elbows to defend it's more competitive. Kickboxing is just for the sport the regular kind utilizes every part of your body also
Regular boxing does not use as many muscles and movements put into it..it's not as cardio intensive and you won't see a huge result in tone

Mauy thai uses kicks that aren't used in kickboxing
Kickboxing the regular is comparable to somewhat Tae kwon do and karate techniques

muay thai is a great workout. you seriously feel like you've used every muscle in your body afterwards.

Heh...Muay-Thai is apparently a pretty damn viscious type of kick boxing. Rather than using the front side of your foot and fists, you use your shins (which have to be trained for about 6 months so that the pain doesn't affect you anymore) and your elbows because they're less fraile.
I got a neat little history lesson today from my new Grandmaster.
I'll be starting training in American Kickboxing (the real thing, not the aerobic version) with Grandmaster Quoc-Dung on Monday in a 1 hour private lesson. :D Check out his background:
10th Dan Black Belt in Vo Co-Truyen
2nd Successor of HTM
World Martial Arts
18th Successor of Hiep-Tinh-Mon
(or Vo-Ta)
Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts
8th Dan in Kyokushinkai
(Japanese karate)
8th Dan in Daito-ryu Aikijitsi (Japanese style)
7th Dan Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do (Korean style)
6th Dan in Kenjutsu
6th Dan in Judo
Undefeated Vo Tu-Do Vietnamese Kickboxing Champion (1955-1963)
Undefeated "Free Style" Kickboxing Southeast Asia Champion (1958-1960)
Tons of world renowned fighters trained under him, and Billy Blanks (the creator Tae Bo) studied under him for 21 years. He was just awarded the "Most Distinguished Grandmaster of the Year" award in '06, beating out 49 other grandmasters.

Tis a shame that I have to wear the typical white karate type uniform.
Ninja gear would be much more stealthy.

You should totally go in the first day with a t-shirt wrapped ninja-style around your face.
