View Full Version : Weight loss and your wardrobe

As I'm firming up and losing inches on my waistline and other measurements(inseam, etc.), I'm finding that I'm looking more and more like a little girl that's playing dress up in her mommies clothes (mostly in work clothes).
Anyone have some good tricks for keeping your clothes at least somewhat wearable as you change sizes?
I can't exactly run out and spend hundreds of dollars to give myself an insta-fits pefect selection of clothes, and would like to at least get through the summer without having to go broke on looking professional.
I'm not complaining about having my size 3/4 stuff becoming baggy slowly, but damn it's expensive to become healthier and more lean...costly food, gym time, clothing changes, etc. etc.

^------- I have the same thing happening to me, since I go to the gym 10-12 hours a week, run every morning, Kickbox for 1 hour twice a week and now do Juditzu for a half an hour once a week and eat really healthy 6 out of 7 days a week, I've dropped 30lbs the first 3 months I started and have maintained it.
I know how to sew and fix inseams and tailor my stuff when this happens but, this means maintaining this size too. If you don't know how to sew, find a good tailor (some dryclean places do this, sometimes it requires them to reset the zipper- I do this for my more expensive designer stuff that I don't know how to fix) I fix only what I wear as key pieces...or I find different ways to wear the garment

Some of my shirts are getting too small. I don't really have a solution for that though, I think I'm going to need to buy new shirts.

Shirts as far as T-shirts have to be bought...
Dress shirts depending on how dramatic the weight loss can be altered to be more tailored..except for Polo Shirts

i've started losing a few inches, but i'm just taking the opportunity to update my wardrobe, since it was badly in need of that anyway.
i just need some womenz to take me shopping so i can look good. i just found out a few months ago that apparently a brown belt is not to be worn with black clothing. who knew

Take your clothes to a tailor and have them adjusted. You can probably have a few darts put into your shirts and pants, which are not expensive alterations. I could do it for you, but alas .. :(

This would only work (the brown belt thing) if you had black and brown pinstripes but still it's a no no in my book...especially with black dress pants
Brown belts look good with blue jeans..period!!!....and if the belt loops are distressed, torn or what-not it's time for a new belt
Do you have one particular style, what are your key pieces that you religiously wear?
I go shopping with my single guy friends all the time to help them out, hair suggestions, etc.., that's if their the ones that actually care about their fashion and appearance

take them to a tailor, get measurements, have the tailor hem them and whatever the hell else it is that they do.

no real tips, sadly. before i started my new job about two months ago, i had to get new "managerial" type work clothes, slacks, button down shirts, etc. dropped a large bit of money getting alot of nice clothes for work, and last week i had to take in four pairs of slacks, all too big even with a belt, and my shirts are all starting to get tight in the shoulders/upper back region. sadly, there is not much tailoring to be done for the shirts

I've also heard that you can do a brown belt with black if you also have brown shoes and another brown accessory because it "tells a story."
But then again that was clinton on what not to wear talking to a girl. sometimes I wonder about the wisdom of that show.

So, do you have to be a Prog or Trance DJ to pull this off? Or Slick Rick?

Khaki and Black...fine, brown shoes with Combo..Okay
Brown shoes, brown belt, brown shirt and black pants ...NO NO NO, no accessory can save this one
What not to wear...I've seen quite a few disasters on here from the before and after where sometimes the stylists didn't get the person's shape right with flattering pieces or the make-up made the person look like drag or washed out <---- former MAC professional make-up artist, I look at these things

Pretty much. Cheap shit like T-shirts you can't really do much about (maybe wash in super hot water, but it usually doesn't work.)
I tend to replace pants last because I can always use a belt. Although, come to think of it, I'm on the last hole in my belt at the moment...time to get a smaller one
