New weekly! Last week was our second week, and looks like the word is already spreading. For a while there was barely any room for people to sit bc so many people showed up. We're working on that for this one...

Join us on Wednesday, June 6 for our third night! Flier coming soon, for real this time.

About the space
The space is on top of Cafe Luna/Skewers in Dupont Circle. It is a really cool laid-back space with middle-eastern style layout. They do belly dancing there on Friday nights I think.

Mob rules!

This will be our little "new-dub rinse out session". Come hear the test cuts before the rest! Also - plenty of new wax too, so come out and hear the freshness from the other side of the sea as well.

Hopfully those punk-ass Barrio Bros will show up! The battle we were supposed to have tonight, with them, was put off until a better sound system could be arranged. This will be a good chance for them to come fuel the fire of victory that the Mob will inevitably release on them!!

Well, since Ivan and I are 9 to 5ers ourselves, we really enjoy being able to throw a shindig and still be home by midnight.

The time is also perfect for those of you with younger souls than mine... Stop by for a drink on your way to any of the other fine Wednesday late-night events in the area :D.

4 real. I'm very happy that we are in a position to offer specials like these. Just remember, this is on the third floor (above Skewers), meaning you will have to walk down a long flight of stairs at the end of the night, which can be tricky... drink responsibly :chug: especially if you need to walk down the stairs while carrying turntables. I learned the hard way on our first night. :D

I almost pulled the biggest A hole move.....

I locked my record bag in my drawer in my office last night so I wouldn't have to lug it in to work today on the Metro. I got a ride to the Metro today so I don't have my car keys, or keys to my drawer. Fortunately I have friends with "special skills" and was able to get the drawer open.

Well when you promo online in mainstream areas and say "trip-hop, dubstep" and "cheap drinks", which part of the promo do you think they'll focus on? I mean how many people know what "dubstep" means? We all do on buzzboard, but when I'm posting on myspace etc....

Service could be faster tho. This is true, we're going to have a walk-up-to bar tonight instead of table service, which should speed things up.

well those girls did stay for a good portion of the night, through Ivan's amon tobin and muslimgauze and everything.

I think they happened upon the night by sheer luck (or Myspace) and tho they didn't 'get' the music, they were exposed to something new and interesting, which to me is what life and being a music appreciator is all about. Perhaps you won some people over and the'll start rethinking listening to top 40 radio crap.
I used to go to the Blue Room on Sunday nights for this type of thing, your night is a bit different, but filling a void, so to speak.

Note: we will NOT be here next week, 6/13, due to a private event that was booked here before we signed on. We WILL be back on schedule starting Wednesday, 6/20.

p.s. lol @ me because I promised ivan's girlfriend I would play the DJ Ayres bmore club remix of "Glamorous" (I don't know WHY I promised that. It is either because I am trying to steal my friend's girlfriend with my hot selector skills, or because I fucking love that song, even the original) and I didn't (obviously) for the second week in a row. So when we get back on schedule, you will hear one (and only one) club track. And it is hot so that's what's up.

Shit went off last night. It was mostly non-board people from what I could tell. BTW the ratio was in favor of the ladies last night :-) I don't think I've ever played a gig where that was the case, nuff said. Biggup to Dan, Ivan & Adrian. That spot was cool as hell, great food & drinks. My only complaint was that I couldn't fire up the big ass hookah the way I would've liked. Kidding of course.

how was this? was it a success as far as non-buzzboard members being in attendance?
I would say Buzzboard people were like 20% of the crowd at most including DJs.

edit: I take that back, I would say more like 10-15% overall for the entire night.

I rolled in with 2 buddies toward the end of the evening. Good times. You guys were getting wasted after all them beers. Someone drank up all the Anchor Porter after I had one. . . that's some fine beer right there.
Kudos, guys, for playing music you can't find anywhere else in DC.

There seemed to be a few non-buzzboard folks there eating dinner and shit, but most people that were there for dubstep were board peeps; with a few exceptions.

Either way, you can't argue with the specials. I had 3 beers and an appetizer & spent $10, tip included.

My only complaint is that the speakers couldn't handle nearly enough bass to do dubstep proper. Still though, beats on an 'ok' system are better than no beats at all.

most people that were there for dubstep were board peeps True, but I would say most of the people overall throughout the course of the night were not there specifically for dubstep.

The house speakers can't but the amp+speakers by the booth can handle a lot more bass than we gave it. the reason is we wanted people to be able to talk to each other :D

Word, it's only a very, very minor complaint at most.

What was cool about the crowd is that it didn't look like any non-dubstep people were turned off by the music. You usually can't say that for EDM at places like that. Good times.

had a blast last night. At first I was a bit nervous about the dinner patrons, wondering if they would like the music, but they sure did! I think we educated a few folks on the dubplate culture and rewinds and all. At first people seemed shocked to see the record stop, but by the end of the night, I know at least 2 people, who I assume were regular customers, called rewinds.

I find it so funny to have rewinds at a sit down dinner joint! How fucking awesome though!

Props to Dan and everyone who made this happen. I'll have to come back for those specials next time too! Flying Dog FTW!

Y'all need to have more faith in the common folk... They might not be able to distinguish between dubstep, trip-hop, downtempo and minimal, but people will listen to anything.

Coming from a DnB background it's actually quite refreshing to rock music with some cross over appeal that non EDM heads seem to be receptive to. I felt like I was in college again at one point when I looked at our table and it was flooded with pizzas and like 20 beer bottles, good times.

LOL. I guess that's a good thing? I don't know, my stint in college was a table flooded with http://www.buzzlife.com/forums/images/icons/smokin.gif and industrial music. :raveon:
