I'm trying to really focus on my core and solidify my balance and flexibility a bit more, so I picked up an exercise ball today.

Anyone have some really good exercises to use with it?

Huzzah!

Mine came with a DVD, but it looks seriously lame. The chick on the front of the DVD pack looks like she's stoned off her ass.

it's amazing what you can do with a good set of balls. i'll be jamming once we pick up the medicine ball. today i pretty much just rocked a solid set of pushups while Bad Kat bounced around the room doing misc stuff w/ her ball.

one thing to try, which i have been experimenting with since i got my 15 pound medicine ball. muscle instability workouts. doing stuff like pushups, 5 sets of ten, but when you do them, put one hand on the medicine ball, and one hand on the ground. then, for the next set, switch the hand that is on the ball.

i have also been doing the plank (the ab and core hold move), but instead of on elbows and toes, i do it with both hands on a pilates ball, trying to balance as i hold myself there.

again, pushups. i have three medicine balls now, a 10, a 15, and a 20. take the 15 and the 20, which are different sizes, and do 20 pushups, one hand on each ball, going down in between them, then switch the balls to the other hand, and do 20 more.

those right there will shred the hell out of the stabilizer muscles as your shoulders fight to keep you and the ball from rolling to the sides... trust me, they hurt

I guess that 'exercise balls' now covers the Stability ball AND medicine balls. My arms are going to be toned like whoa.

Now if my tummy would just catch up with the overall weight loss that I'm seeing. :crying2: Everything ELSE seems to be coming along perfectly.

Awesome idea. I really did not understand the part about the plank... can you elaborate a bit more on that shit?

I've been doing that T exercise you told me about. That shit has ripped my hams a new twat. I'll do about 2-3 mins with a 10lb and it literally makes me walk like a prison bitch for 5-7 days.

ok, the plank is an easy sounding one. got it from pilates as a core exercise. basically, get down in the front leaning rest position (the up position of pushups), then drop down to your elbows, so that all that is touching the floor is your elbows (forearms) and toes. hold that position while keeping your middle (core and abs) tight. hold that for 1 to 2 minutes at a time. you can also do it to either side, with one arm on the ground

the way i modified it was using the medicine ball as my base, putting both hands on the top of the ball, and holding myself that way. its just like the normal plank, except that since the ball wants to roll, it shreds your stabilizer muscles holding yourself in the same position.

its the same theory as doing pushups with both hands on the top of the ball. the ball wants to roll, the stabilizer muscles have to hold you in place as you go up and down.. your shoulders will be more sore then you are used to the first fwe times you do it
