i'd love to bike to work, alas i live in silver spring (for now) and work in bmore (for now).
but yea, i've just bought a new mountain bike a few months ago, and as the weather has been getting better i've been riding alot. i try to change it up from pure mountain biking and hit up some paved trails from time to time. saturday i just rode the entire length of the Mount Vernon trail.... still hurtin from that one but i needed it. I'm still surprised that aggressive inclines cause me to do a sort of bench press motion... my arms are even sore.

i bike into work almost every day. 18 miles round trip, plus 400 ft elevation change. it's good for my health, reduces emissions and is cheaper than $3 a gallon gas. i've got a road bike.

Ouch, that commute sucks. I used to do Owings Mills to Rockville every day. That was the suck ass.

What kind of bike did you get? I'd like to get a road bike next year in addition to my full suspension..

There are some great places right outside baltimore city. Loch Raven, Robert E. Lee (small), or Patapsco (Avalon & McKelldin). You could actually hop the light rail up to the station right in Mt. Washington and hit the trails from there.. its like a 5 minute ride to the trails from there.

I'm going to start doing the same, I take the metro into work and it's only 4 miles to the station from my house. I want to try the commute one day when I don't have to work, just so I can time it and figure out when I need to leave for work int he morning...

actually, my commute isnt too bad since i'm going against traffic, it only takes me about 30-35 minutes to get to work.
the bike i got is the Jamis cross country 2.0 from '06 (got it on discount since it was the old model), and they put slick tires on for me since i told them i wasnt going to be doing any super aggressive single trail riding for a while. i've started doing some more aggressive log jumping and stuff... so some real tires will be in order soon, but for now, the slicks work nice.

well I'm just starting to get in to biking, and there's some decent trails pretty close to my place so I should have some fun while I get in to the swing of things. Also my brother in law can get the employee discount on specialized bikes, so I got me one of these:

I found a website that has a lot of trails listed in the dc baltimore area, but it's also a pay site.. booo

Agreed.
I grew up about 2mi from the head of the potapsco park trails. We used to ride them and the fire trails around Libery Reservoir.

If you are going to invest in a SJ, I'd take a serious look at the Epic. That one is fucking bad ass.
Btw, check out www.more-mtb.org for alot of info on local trails.. mtbr.com is also good

Yeah man, Patapsco is the shit. I'm going to hit Avalon on Saturday for a big group ride. I went to the shop last night to get a new saddle and get a new chain ring (bent mine @ avalon last week..) Fortunately the mechanic thinks i can wrench it back (bend)...
Looking to get some pedals tomorrow, i'm rocking bmx platforms on my full suspension. Downhill style ftw!!

i almost want to invest in the clipless system shit.
good luck getting that chainring completley strait.
i men id do it to, but if its not perfect you can derail up a hill or something

So I've officially become obsessed with biking. I'm signing up for a 4 series race in July. Going to train 24/7 until then.
Woot.

yeah.. well I've already got a pretty nice investment in this bike so I can't be looking for another any time soon.
My friend was trying to tell me to switch out the spd pedals to platforms though since he was saying that the clipless pedals are garbage.. I didn't agree and bought the specialized taho's.

So I've got the bike in, and together.. will need to start adjusting shocks for my ride height and stuff, as well as a few minor adjustments here and there.
With the clipless right now, I think it's harder to get in to the pedal than out, but I loosened the spring on the SPD so it's easier to get in and out for now until I'm more used to doing it.
