SPENCE aka SLIM (Vancouver BC) (http://www.spencemusic.com)

His mixes are smooth and slick with scratching that's lightening quick. Spence's skills on the Technics have gained him undeniable respect under the Slim moniker as one of Canada's DJ elite. With emerging prowess as a producer and saxophonist, he is rapidly becoming a certifiable triple threat in the modern music scene. A true breakbeat jedi direct from the west coast, lock'n'load mixing and ferocious scratching abilities have been his trademark since the 90s while he travelled the continent spinning up a veritable typhoon of breaks, house, and anything else that got in his way. The awesome hybrid of Wax & Sax is making huge waves as Spence is now blasting the envelope of the dj performances into hyperspace.

Spence's Notes on the Mix:

"iBreaks (Metrolium show)/Breakbeat.ca guest mix! Somsay from Breakbeat.ca calls it a "west coast style" Breaks mix. Studio recording done with CD players. All FX done with the Pioneer mixer, some CDJ looping and sampling. Scratches done on the CDX.

The mix starts with a movie sample from the 5th element.

First tune "Freezer" is a stomper. This prolific producer is a Geman fellow named Boris Blenn who uses the moniker "Galaxy". I'm gonna have to track down more of his cuts.

On to Rennie Pilgrem and Uberzone's funky jam "Cous Cous". 2 slick producers that have
individually and collectively spearheaded the Breakbeat sound. Some light scratching thru the breakdown.

The Micky Slim remix of this Bud Bros tune will surely be caned senseless but I had to get it on there cuz it thumps so good. Looped the end of this one on the CDJ...whew, got out.

"Xesmut": Dank and trippy tune by The Funk Lab, my favorite Florida guys. Their tracks have the sickest sound qual and groove. Go get my G8ptB live mix to hear "Bright Lights" cuz that tune is amazing.

Next is a ragga sample dub bomb by 10 Sui & La Resistance featuring The Ragga Twins. Also cool femme vocals and huge bassline. I'm playing "Bring 4th Ya Booty" in every Breakbeat set right now.

Klaus Hill is a big muthaf#$er that churns out big muthaf@#in'tunes. "Running" is my favorite of Klaus' cuts, awesome vocal sample delayed to trancin' perfection.

"In your ear" has got to be one of the biggest and funkiest tunes I have ever heard, 30Hz is usually a little darker and nastier. I'm lovin' the sound of this track for the floor. I threw in a sample of Skeewif's "Boom" and scratched it a bit.

Sound of Habib is a sick label. Neztic is a sick producer. "Without You" is a sick tune. I let 'er run right down to an ambient smash boom segue.

The segue leads into a Nu Skool Breaks classic by Kevin Beber. This is one from Marine Parade label's series of "Re-Edits" by the Bassbin Twins. I snatched up a bunch of these.

Oh snap...Look at this! One of my own tunes under the production moniker "SineCircle". Sounds like a champ I must say... The tune is called "Fresh Fly" and will be released soon on Purephunk Digital. The sample is from Ghost Dog where one of the gangsters is talking about Flavor Flave and sez: "The funky fresh fly flavor"

Phantom Beats is next with "Rip It Up". Relentlessly funky nu skooly Break with a wicked vocoder sample leading the way over fatty bass and all that other good stuff these cats are known for. I scratched the "break for 30 seconds" samp from the intro in this tune.

I did a little manual cue sampling to extend the mix in a bit to get into DMX Krew's 1998 Electro < (I said it and meant it!) bomb. Again with a vocoder, The words to this track are hilarious and it thumps the sh@t out of my Jetta.

I bought most of these cuts on Beatport.com. Please support the artists and buy the singles digitally or on wax!"
