View Full Version : do you have bags under your eyes?

ok so im trying to figure out what causes the dreaded under eye bag.
theyre dark and resembling bruising
so i would assume that it is attributed to blood flow in that area
uppers (caffeene, nicotene, ketamine etc.) all constrict capilaries, this may lead to soft tissue(such as the tissue in question) to become bruised from lack of nutrients.
i know lack of sleep can cause swelling, but i dont know if it actually causes the swelling.
so im trying to gather a bit of data in an attempt to find corelations
1. do you suffer from under eye swelling?
2 are they dark or light in color if they exist
3 do you take any vitamins? what?
4 do u use uppers frequently?
5 how many hours of sleep do you get on average?
6 do you eat mostly foods that might be high in colesterol? (steak, fast food, fats etc.)
7 do you eat alot of food that may be good for colesterol (celery, onions, garlic etc.)
8 do you have fair (pale) skin?
im not looking to cure eye bags, im looking to prevent them.
if you could please humor me, i would be appreciative.

basically most experts seem to agree it's caused by your skin being so pale you see the veins / blood underneath. The skin under the eyes is especially thin..so any paleness will make the veins even more evident. Gives a slight blue tint, aka dark circles.
However, there are skin experts who disagree. So it's one of those things we aren't 100% sure about, sort of like the sexual orientation of Ryan Seacrest.
I get the bags... I don't know what causes them, but, I'm forced to admit, I do use eyecream to minimize them... (Thanks, QE4TSG)

allergies are a major contributer to bags under the eyes.
my childs dr told me she can walk around and pick out the kids that suffer from allergies and are not treated by the black under the eyes.

uppers (caffeene, nicotene, ketamine etc.)
ketamine is an upper? I thought it was cat tranquilizer?

1. do you suffer from under eye swelling?
some minor swelling, nothing too noticable to most
2 are they dark or light in color if they exist
they are dark perhaps 15% of the time
3 do you take any vitamins? what? ive found multi vitamins actually increase my eye swelling, but i try to intake alot of iron on average
4 do u use uppers frequently?
coffee is an everyday thing for me lately, ive noticed the eye swelling seems to increse with the caffeene intake
5 how many hours of sleep do you get on average?
7 hours a night
6 do you eat mostly foods that might be high in colesterol? (steak, fast food, fats etc.)
i think i have a healthy balance of horrable cholesterol foods to non
but i eat alot of foods with sulfer in them so i doubt i have any colesterol issues at all
7 do you eat alot of food that may be good for colesterol (celery, onions, garlic etc.) all the time, at least in one meal a day
8 yes, i am less than tan. extremley less than tan, but i dont know how that explains swelling

This concealer knows how to multi-task! It hides imperfections, conceals dark circles and fine lines while boosting your skin’s hydration levels. With hydrating cucumber and refreshing caffeine to help reduce the look of under-eye puffiness. A blend of green, red and white teas provide triple antioxidant protection, while aloe conditions the delicate eye area. Now you’ve got nothing to hide.

Translucent skin would allow them to be visible. It is not the *cause* of the darkness.

I'll bite.
First off, I definitely get dark circles when I'm not getting enough rest and when I'm not hydrated. Additionally, they get puffy if I'm very, very exhausted, or when my allergies act up (especially when I wake up in the morning).
To answer the questions:
1. do you suffer from under eye swelling?
See above comment about swelling. I wouldn't say I "suffer" from it, though
2. are they dark or light in color if they exist
Dark. And when I'm under stress (uh, more than the usual amount), I get this vein that pops out, running from my under-eye area to the top of the cheekbone. It's HOTTT.
3. do you take any vitamins? what?
When I remember. In my cabinet I have multi, C, B-complex, and something else...either calcium or E (I used to have both and I got rid of one b/c it expired, but I can't remember which).
4. do u use uppers frequently?
Eh? I am prescribed Adderall XR 20mg twice daily. However, I do not ingest caffeine, and I've always had these circles, back since my overachieving high school days.
5. how many hours of sleep do you get on average?
It varies. Recently, nowhere near enough. And my eyes look like I'm wearing purple eye shadow underneath.
6. do you eat mostly foods that might be high in colesterol? (steak, fast food, fats etc.)
Not really.
7. do you eat alot of food that may be good for colesterol (celery, onions, garlic etc.)
Not specifically those three things.

dear heider, your data is uncompilable since it lacks the other data to analyze correlation.
you suck at life.

this doesn't always work... i've had dark circles under my eyes since i was little.... no matter how much or little of sleep i get or how well i sleep, they are there...
so as for the thread topic on my end... yes i have them, no they don't swell, and i get 8-10 hours of sleep usually... and i eat low-fat/no fat food... so no more than 40g of fat a day max.
