Anyone have any info on the different types of yoga out there? Im looking for something that will not only build strength and flexibility but help out with bloodflow, back issues and the like.
I have heard that some focus on one area more than others and was curious which path to take.

Ah!! Yes, I'll post something in a bit. I need to scan it to my computer first (or I could just email you the materials, either way).
Fwiw, yoga is not only a series of postures, but also a way of living. Regardless, I know you meant the postures.

Damnit, the scans I did came out shoddy. I'll email them to you anyway, but in the meantime lemme try to find something similar online. Grrr.
This is a good site that I've been going to for years, for various reasons...has a wealth of information. Here are a few related links:

I've taken classes based around Hatha and Iyengar. Wiki has good write-ups with some basic info about modern practices

If you want more of a sweat-fest, consider Bikram. Plus he lives in CA and that's where his studio is. Not sure if I personally would want to attend one of his classes, but hey. Some interesting stories about him/his classes from one of my old yoga teachers.

yoga is quite the shiznit actually, have been taking yoga at my gym to get back my flexibility. i dont buy into all the "earth" and "spiritual" bullshit, its just really really good stretching and core muscle working

You may also want to look into Tai Chi Chuan classes. If Yoga doesn't turn out to be your thing, this may be. I've sat in on classes to view before signing up, and it's very similar, but has a little extra umph to it.
I've been chomping at the bit to take classes, but I have to wait for the $$$ flow for that sort of thing.

Tantra is one of the yogic practices, also related to Kundalini. I did a presentation on Kundalini yoga...I <3 studying the chakras :D

im also going to be taking martial arts classes in the fall, so the two balancing each other out is going to be more than enough.
either wushu for grace or MMA for pure beat down ability.
WORD UP ON THE YOGA. I need to get on top of doing this as well. I have had a Yin deficiency for many, many years and was finally able to diagnose myself of this. It's going to be very important to do relaxation techniques over the next several months as well as a strict Reiki schedule. Lots & lots to do to try and get my kidneys back in balance
(hope this post didn't confuse too many of ye... i'd be wiling to post a write-up on this as well tho)

My friend as long as I know there are 5 types of yoga was originated from INDIA. and those are HATHA, VINYASA, ASHTANGA / POWER YOGA, IYENGAR, KUNDALINI, BIKRAM/HOT YOGA....and all these styles of practice are most concerned with bodily alignment. In yoga, the word alignment is used to describe the precise way in which your body should be positioned in each pose in order to obtain the maximum benefits of the pose and avoid injury.:meditate:

I have yet to try yoga [I have beginner DVDs that I got for Christmas], but I LOVE doing pilates. I've been slacking tho, because my back has been bothering me. :sadblue:
