no idea on that one, by design most ab excersizes are hard on the lower back. i would say try doing some lower back excersizes along with the ab workouts you do to strengthen both regions. back extensions are a good way to start that, non impact, no weight, etc, work up to doing it with 10 pounds, etc

quit drinking beer
you can work out your abs all you want, it won't matter as long as you still have all the fat on top of it

And it's about as cheap as gels you'll find in stores with the added alcohol induced side effects.

I think it looks like a super comfy chair. I don't think that's good for your abs.

After looking over all the things you can do with it it looks like it'd be good for real "working out"

Working your abs doesn't help burn the fat?

I use one of those exercise balls, and given, until I lose my gut fat, I won't have a 6 pack, but working your abs does improve the appearance of your stomache. Anyway, my point was the exercise ball doesn't hurt my lower back at all. It makes me flex only my abs to pull myself up.

John is more the expert on this than I am, but when it comes to losing weight and toning it's all about proper dieting and cardio exercises like running and things of that nature.
I actually have a good six pack myself but the problem is that it's buried under body fat that i've accumulated from drinking all the beer that i do.
Would the bean help you out? Definitely, but doing cardio at least 3 times a week and cutting out the beer would help out a lot more.... at least that's my understanding.
(john, correct me if i'm wrong on this..)

according to my trainer localized fat loss is possible. he told me that studies are coming out that say if you work one portion of your body extra hard the fat loss in that area can be a lot more. That's why I try to make sure and do my crunch regimen every time I work out.

I am an expert on this subject.
Working you abs or any part of ur body for that matter, builds the muscle, and although it does burn some fat, you wont get the desired results of having a lean rippling body unless you do cardio. personally I run a minimum of 3 miles a day.
also cut out the beer (which by the way i dont consume....although liquor is another story), processes sugars like that desert ppl think they have to have after every mill, or that mid day fat snack ppl eat and forget that those are extra calories you are adding to the ones you get from your regular meals.

the bean just looks like an odd shaped pilates ball, and after watching that, looks like you can do the same stuff you can with a pilates ball. save your money

Abs really don't hypertrophy that much at all - they're made 90% in the kitchen. You can do 1,000 crunches and 100 hours of cardio a week and you'll still look like crap if you don't eat right.
That being said - look for alternatives (like this thing) if you're having chronic pain but otherwise sticking to basic movements for them will be fine. What about your back hurts? In most cases it's not the exercise itself that hurts the person, it's form and mobility issues that need to be corrected.

but doesn't working out your abs, burn the fat around them? Specifically if you do a good 30 minutes of cardio before hand and use up your glucose stores and get your body to start using up your fat storage, then work out the abs like whoa. Seems to work in theory, but I've got too much of an appetite to have it really work.

Well I'm not saying the bean won't help, because it definitely will, but getting it in combination with upping your cardio is going to offer you the best results.

Nah, working out abs doesn't burn the fat around them - you can't target a specific area for fat loss on your body - it's about reducing overall body fat. Working out your abs makes your abs stronger.

I'm no health expert but from my understanding it does help build muscles but as far as fat burning, it's all about proper dieting and cardio.

so it's all about doing a good overall workout the burns the most fat combined with a good diet. Nice to know, now if they could just make a no calorie beer...

Dude, calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Determine your Daily Caloric Needs using the Harris Benedict Equation
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/
Subtract 500
Divide by 6, and eat 6 "clean" meals a day with those calories, every 3 hours.
Stop drinking alcohol except for on special occasions. Drink lots of water. Don't drink soda's. Avoid High Fructose Syrups, avoid hydrogenated oils, etc.
I've already lost 10lbs. Do it. And hit the gym to retain muscle mass, and mix in some light cardio.
And most of all, be patient.

BTW, that BMR calculator is stupidly made. If you are 6'0", you have to enter 5'12", since it wont let you enter 0 inches.
