i'm a big fan of firming lotion for my calves/ankles.
I bought it at this store called Cusp- there's one in Tyson's Corner and one coming soon in Georgetown. Its my favorite new palce to go drool over things I can't afford. If you're into that type of thing, I highly reccomend them (Note: leave your credit cards at home). Before I left with my dress, my bf had to pry these from my hands:

:badkitty:
does anybody know a good place in the city to get stillettos re-heeled?
i have about 8 or 9 pairs that i have worn down to the metal pin. they become impossible to walk in at that point, but i can't throw them away, cause they are still good shoes... :sadpanda:
Any cobbler should be able to do that; oftentimes drycleaners (the smaller businesses) have a cobbler working in the store, as well. I have to get it done all the time :D
i know there are planty of places that DO it, i was looking for a reccomendation of a GOOD place, since these are expensive shoes, i dont want a halfed ass job done on them.. also, a few might be BEYOND the point of someone saying they can be fixed.....
Okay. I've taken everything from Nine West to Michael Kors to Ralph Lauren, to a place in Tenleytown. It's also a drycleaning place (and a good one, with great turnaround time and prices, and a tailor). I think it's called American Valet, and it's right near the yummiest pizza I've had in upper-NW DC, Angelico's.
I got these (http://www.zappos.com/images/727/7273660/5089-321094-d.jpg) shoes and I need a new dress to wear them with. It's okay that I am eleven feet tall in them because they are so so so cute.
those shoes are adorable.
i love wearing 5" heels and being taller 99% of those in the room.
At least it's easy to find someone in a packed club.

Custom shoes. "huge selection of trendy heels, boots, wedges - even bridal shoes. You pick the colors, details, heel colors, and accents"
You can also create your own.
they only go up to 10. they can officially go fuck themselves.
New shoes...

Skinny Jean friendly, not so 'pain free' though. :hangover:
I need to wear heels more often and get use to them. I can never wear them out, because my legs get all sore. And I have some really cute pairs. :crying2:
The last shoot I did I had heels on the whole day, and when we were done I thought my legs were going to collapse from under me. It got to the point where you could see them shaking towards the end of the day.
I just bought these shoes. Cute flat shoes fill me with joy.

I just found the purse of my dreams.
I will be going back to purchase it next week.
over and out.

Finding the perfect purse is very important. :shakesfist:
:D
Amanda, is that purse from the newish designer from New Zealand? (I can't remember the name of the designer but the purse tag as something about New Zealand (or is that Austraila (?)) on it.
yes, that is the macys at pentagaon and it is a Kathy Van Zeeland bag. :swoon:
I am going to own this purse.
and I am going to wear it with sundresses and strappy, white shoes.
and I will be sunshine, spring time, and breeziness.
Liam had to pry it from my hands when we left the store and I told him "but, that was the Liam of purses."
yea. I'm a little crazed about getting new spring stuff right now.
This is my dream purse (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2921446?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=betsey+johnson+in+All+Categories&origin=searchresults).
I will own this purse.
I'm a purse whore, but I don't go for the super expensive stuff. My favorite purse is tan with pirate / old school tattoo stuff on it. It's a clasp on top instead of zipper or something. I think I got it for like $3.50 and I get compliments on it all the time.
I saw this at Target months ago, and I know that someone is getting it for my birthday, which I'm thrilled about. I couldn't justify spending $50 when we're going on vacation.

I died a little inside when I had to take them off.
I have been looking for boots for two years and this is the first pair that I love aesthetically and that actually fit me. :jessi:
there is one that is a bit smaller and also cute:
http://slimages.macys.com/is/image/MCY/products/3/optimized/285493_fpx.tif?bgc=255,255,255&wid=273&qlt=90,0&layer=comp&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.7,1.0,0.5,0&fmt=jpeg
Ladies, what's your opinion on these (for me)? Too chunky/clunky, or cute, or what?

I can't bring myself to carry anything other than messenger-style bags. I've had my current Jack Spade bag for over a year now (thanks guy) and I can't seem to find any that are cutesy and chic-y looking and don't have that typical messenger bag look.
Any handbag site recommendations are welcome.

Nope. It's pure bliss. Wedges have extra support. So unless the straps pinch, theres nothing to worry about.

I'm so used to wearing shoes like that they almost feel like sneakers at this point. The only time I really have trouble walking in them is during prolonged trips on concrete, in the mall, to the metro, etc.

Doesn't it hurt to walk in stuff like that?
It is quite the opposite (for me). A stiletto or regular pump hurts so much more than a wedge because you are balancing on a pin rather than walking on a platform.
I agree, wedges are awesome and I hope they never go out of style.

I dont understand why women love purses.
And I barely understand women and shoes.
I have had one purse over two years. To me, it's a utilitarian thing. It holds things.
And shoes. I have a pair of black boots, three pairs of tennis shoes. Oh, I suppose I have a pair of steel toe shoes for work. I suppose it would be different if I worked in a conventional office job where appearance kind of mattered. I wear scrubs to work.

its simple. you gotta carry one everyday. often times its heavy and a pain in the ass. it can at least be pretty.
this is the purse i carry the most, elad gave it to me when it first came out for my bday. i dont know why it is shiny in this pic, it is not in real life.

Go with the bows. They'll look feminine, but the shoe is still professional enough (and I think they're cuter overall). Plus, I don't think ankle straps are very flattering on most people.

I don't get it either. I feel like I am not truly girly because of it.
I have been using a messenger style diaper bag for years and years. I don't even own a purse. And shoes... I am a sneaker kind of gal. Or flip flops. Even when I worked in an office setting I had a tendency to be overly casual.

I used a messenger style bag for years and years.... and then it died. So now I've got a patchwork cordory purse that I wear still crossed over my chest.
As for shoes, I have a bunch of sneakers, maybe one or two pairs of flip flops, and heels. For work. Because this office required that I not have a tendency to be overly casual. It just grew from there

I didn't get into a "girly" phase until I started dating Matti. When we first started dating it was just casual and we were allowed to see other people [which never really happened.. because we pretty much saw each other every night], but he'd offhandedly comment on a girl he thought was cute sometimes, while we were out. And I don't know.. I made a subconscious decision to get out of my tomboy stage and start looking more girly.
I've been a purse and cute pantie fanatic for years. But my new love for cute shoes didn't come until I started doing some modeling for a few months. It's kinda embarrassing having to pose barefoot, because you don't have any cute heels, flats, or anything of the sort.
:elad:
Edit: and I don't look girly too often.. usually just when I plan on going out with friends, or I'm spending the whole day with the family running errands. Most of the time I'm either in my PJs at home with the kids, or dressed in something I can get dirty in - because I'm always around horses at least one or more times during the day.. and if I have the kids with me, we run around the barn for a few hours, so they can get out all their energy and enjoy a pretty day.

When I was dating Nate, I wore UFOs and converse and had my hair cut short short. LOL He thought I was hawt. Now that I am older (the UFO phase was almost ten years ago) I definitely look more like a girl but I am certainly not a make-up, hand bag, shoes kind of girl. I wish I was! I totally dig those purple shoes someone posted.

I'm with you... I own 4 purses - 1 regular sized black one, 1 regular sized brown one, 1 tiny black one (which came inside a leather tote I was given as a gift), and last summer I bought a brown corduroy one that was casual & on the smaller side...
I own more shoes - mostly running shoes/sneakers, but they're all pretty similar - just some are newer/cleaner than others. If I wear anything over a 1 inch heel for more than a couple of hours, or any distance walking - my ankle starts killing me.

These shoes eventually came and they are perfect. I love the color and the way they look and they have plenty of room except the backs of the shoe fall off my heels and I have to constantly pull them back onto my heel. I can only walk one block before I have to stop and pull my shoes back on. I don't like it. I wish they were made without that terrible elastic heel.

I can't bring myself to carry anything other than messenger-style bags. I've had my current Jack Spade bag for over a year now (thanks guy) and I can't seem to find any that are cutesy and chic-y looking and don't have that typical messenger bag look.
Any handbag site recommendations are welcome.
check out www.ebags.com they have a whole section on urban & messengers

I wish cute shoes weren't always so tall and painful to wear.
:sadpanda:
I LOVE high shoes because I am a very tiny girl. Anyhow, some of them can be uncomfortable but I recently discovered a line of pads/strips for your shoes called Airplus for her that ROCK! I bought a really high (about 4 inches) patent leather shoe last month because they were beyond cute. I was a bit concerned they were going to be really painful to walk in but when has that stopped me?
I bought these little gels for the straps
http://www.airplusforher.com/content/images/6.jpg
and I was able to dance at a wedding reception for hours without any pain at all!
Here is the whole line:
http://www.airplusforher.com/Products.aspx
I've used the ball of the foot gels too and they work wonders on really high shoes. That is where most of the pain usually comes from since all your weight is on it. Try these in some of your cute but painful shoes. They are awesome!
Okay, I just reread my post before submitting and I just want to say that I don't work for the company LOL I just really love their products and they've made my cute shoe wearing feet very happy!

Did anyone catch the article in the post yesterday about heels?
here is the online version http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/04/AR2007050401940.html
I didn't know that you aren't supposed to wear them for more than three hours at a time.
If I applied this rule to all the shoes in my closet I would only own sneakers:
"If your foot doesn't hurt during or within 24 hours after wearing a shoe," Pribut said, "go ahead and wear it. Otherwise, toss it and start over again."
EmmaK
2007-05-09, 09:18 AM
Ah...I know that stuff, but sadly, I do not follow all the advice.
Though I do take my heels off under my desk, so I never wear them for more than maybe an hour or two (tops) at a time on weekdays.

Practical shoes are always so ugly :crying2:
Seriously...it's sad :sadblue:
I wear sneakers a lot more than I ever used to. It's like years of heels-wearing finally made me snap and I just can't take it on some days. I almost always wear them on Friday (jeans day), and plenty of other days to commute, sometimes leaving them on until forced to go to an atty's office or whatnot (but even then I've been known to leave them on). Granted, I'm talking about slim-profile sneakers (or occasionally my sauconys), not giant puffy cross-trainers.

Often painstakingly selected to complete outfits, shoes like these put stress not just on feet, but on ankles, knees and backs, contributing to the approximately $3.5 billion spent annually in the United States for women's foot surgeries, which cause them to lose 15 million work days yearly.
The American Society of Podiatric Sports Medicine reports that a three-inch heel creates seven times more stress than a one-inch heel.

Say no to the Murakami--it would have been cute when it first came out. Being an "it" bag, its relevance is long since gone. If you really wanted the style that badly, in and of itself, check ebay. There are probably some authentic--albeit second-hand--Murakamis floating around on there.

I agree with Emma.
My parents bought me a LV bag a couple years ago when it was "in the now", but I found that I stopped liking it very quickly because everyone and thier mother was carrying a knock off version of it, which made my real, very expensive version not seem so special.
After the initial thrill of having the bag I stopped carrying it all together. Now, to me, it just seems like a really boring status symbol, much in the way of those certain kinds of mercedes and BMWs that every status slinger in DC drives. They are the most boring cars ever, but they made sure I know that they have a little bit more money than I do.
so yea. I guess my point is that I'm over Louis Vuitton.

while I'm in this thread I have a question:
I am leaving for Ireland in about 4 weeks and I need a certain kind of carry on bag. I have one of the rolling carry on / mini suitcase type bags that I plan to use for all my hair/makeup/accessory/etc. type things, but I don't want to actually use it as a carry on.
What I want is just a very large shoulder bag that looks cute but isn't really pricey. Something big enough to hold magazines, a couple books, and other various travel type things, but also not be too huge to carry on my shoulder.
I haven't had time to look around much yet, but I was hoping someone might have some prior knowledge of where I might look for such a bag...

I have checked ebay but it's hard to make sure it's not fake, that place is literally teeming w/ bootlegs. It's totally an overdone bag but I absolutely love the design, I just think it's so cute.
I have loads of bags anyway... none of them designer but loads of converse and puma bags, less than $50, go with most outfits of mine and they are holding up well. I think maybe I should show them more love!
I agree with Emma.

When I moved to Florida in 1996, I was astonished how women of all ages wore bright pastels. It was particularly surprising because in 1996 the grunge look was still full-on in effect. Like, you would never catch a 30-something-year-old woman who's a DC native purposely and seriously wear a blue, fuzzy miniskirt out for a night of clubbing. I think it has something to do with wanting to match your surroundings and in Tampa and in parts of Cali, it's rarely overcast or grey outside.

That is very true. The other thing I noticed besides the black is that a lot of the fabrics I have are not great for a California summer. There's a lot of cotton and jersey here, and lots of neutrals mixed together. Brighter colors too. It's definitely weather related - when it's sunny nearly every day, you don't want to hide in sweaters as much.

Somebody asked me why men always hold a purse like it has a snake ready to bite them. I explained that we hold them like that because we KNOW it has a snake ready to bite us. To further explain, I drew up a diagram of how purses are built and why they are dangerous. I thought I should probably share this information here as well.

See - the thing is, I'm the same way - I won't just go into someone's purse, unless it's my bestfriend (which I usually just say "I'm going in your purse now") or they ask/tell me to. With Chris, while I wouldn't ever MIND if he went in there, when I'm specifically telling him "My wallet is in my purse, on top, just get it & grab cash" and he insists on bringing it to me (after dating almost 2 years, living together for over a year & now being engaged) - I think he's silly. If I'm asking/telling someone to grab me something, obviously I don't mind them seeing what's in there - but I probably would get annoyed if someone was just snooping around in my purse without asking me first.

Alexis

Heel pads. Don't get the gel ones because they hardly ever work.
If they are just a little too small in the toes you could take them to a cobbler and get the toe lifted/the shoe broken in.

Ugh, thank you so much. For a temp fix I stuffed some tissues in the toe to keep my toes out of the tight part, and help push my heel back. I think I may just end up wearing my flip flops I keep underneath my desk for the rest of the day.

I have a pair of Nine West shoes that do the same thing. My heel keeps slipping out when walking so I just wear them around the office and have flip flops for when I go out for lunch, etc. I did try them on and walk around and didn't have that problem. usually (typically) pm because you have tromped around on them all day. however, if you ate salty foods the night before or are retaining water, they can be swollen in the morning too.

I wear flip flops (or slippers in the winter) to drive in - I can't do rush hour traffic in heels... Plus with a bum ankle, I can't wear high heels (over ~2 inches) period, or any heel for long periods of time/walking distances - so I keep comfortable shoes in my office for when I need to drive or run around.

Definitely. It's really roomy on the inside, and can fit a lot of assorted girl stuff. I'm usually running from place to place, so I can carry notebooks/scripts, makeup bag, sunglasses and my wallet without it being too overstuffed. If you can find a local place that sells Kooba, I think a lot of their bags are on sale right now. I found mine at a boutique with a much smaller price tag than what it was originally selling for :)

I think those shoes are creepy. I hope I never am around someone who is wearing them, cause I would have the probably uncontrollable urge to stomp on them furiously.

I'd go with the white unless you wear a lot of red

I don't wear a lot of red.... but I *am* looking to add a lot more colour to my work wardrobe.
I think I should stick with the black and white ones, but the red just tug at my heart so :eee:

Go red, you probably have a ton of black shoes, this would give you a sassy option aside from the norm, and it's easy to blend.

Maybe I should buy both!!! :eee:
I think I'll stick with the white ones for now, but if I get paid again and I still can't stop loving the red ones... I'll get them too.

The only thing I have to say about shoes is that my Sketchers were stolen by some guy at a house party. Fortunately he left behind his leather Bass shoes in the same size. I still think my Sketchers were more comfortable.

Heh, I saw that in Lucky (maybe only the second time I've ever bought the mag) and affixed one of the "Yes!" stickers.
Also, right now at Hottopic.com they have a ton of shoes on clearance for $7.99. I just ordered:

While it is not a shoe nor a handbag I feel the need to post This (http://content.nordstrom.com/ImageGallery/store/product/Gigantic/1/_5490821.jpg) thing. I think it's a dress. It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen.
:whoa:
What female would wear a dress with the waist dropped to that point?! As if the fabric wasn't hideous enough. It's like dressing for Mama's Family is back in style.

Those shoes are cute. I don't normally shop Hot Topic anymore but I'm gonna look up their site now. Lauren, get the red ones! I need something red for my feet. I need some more color in my wardrobe.

I saw these shoes today and found it necessary to revive this thread.
I do not know who Taylor Swift is, nor did I watch the CMT awards but I saw this picture this morning and I MUST KNOW where to buy these shoes. I'm not wild about the color but the style is made of win and awesome.

I watched the CMT reruns over the weekend and Taylor Swift didn't even have those on by the first time she had to go on stage. She went barefoot all night because they were "killing" her feet.
