I go to the Rockville location. Go later in the evening, or if you can, during the day. 5-7pm are the busiest times. Also on Saturdays/Sundays, GO EARLY!! Everyone and their mother starts getting there areound 9am.

I joined Fitness First last Sep-Oct. I go to the Chantilly and Reston locations (Chantilly one is new, really nice locker room) and so far, I love it. It's pretty cheap, the initiation fee didn't rape me and I like how you can pretty much cancel whenever you want and aren't bound by a life contract.
I wanted to get a better feel for the machines so I signed up for their free personal training sessions and worked out one-on-one for a few days to get me warmed up and motivated. I don't know if you've ever been a gym nut but I didn't know where the hell to start and that definitely helped. I would highly recommend it :)
Haven't had a chance to try out any of their free classes (aerobic, yoga, etc) though. I'm still working up the nerve to show up for a group thingy.

yea i was glad to hear they had free personal training sessions, because i've only been to a gym once before, and have no idea what i'll be doing either, so i'm sure it will definately help!

yup, my new gym, as of three weeks ago, is the Alexandria Fitness First. nice facilities, good sized free weight area, no complaints... not yet anyways. the five free sessions with a trainer was a nice incentive, used one to get some pointers, and then they offer a free one every month to update your workout. good policy there

Lisa and I were thinking about joining the one in Rockville since it is like 2 mins from us...you like it other than it being busy?

so i went this morning for the first workout, and it was pretty dead around 830/9am... but i think it's kinda dead on the weekends @ the downtown location.. which is good. i like it so far.

i have found in my area that if you can get there before the afternoon rush, which actually seems to start around 5 or 5:30 ish, the gym isnt bad, and the free weights area is never so crowded you can't lift. of course, this is all in the alexandria one
