Q about the chinatown bus... i know you can buy a roundtrip on their webpage, and you choose your departure time, but does it ever give you an option for the return time? or do you just hop on whatever bus to get back to DC?

Time...I dont want to get there all early, like the summertime gigs. I need to get some sort of rest...
I'm thinking that i'd like to get there around 8pm or so....meaning we'd have to leave between 4p and 5p. We're definitely starting at 1030....We have to. I'm the starting pitcher for the evening. There's already talk of an afterparty....we'll see.

just make sure you check the date of the return trip. I think Mr. Ask ran into this problem. if you choose a time in the afternoon to depart, than a time in the morning to come back, the date doesn't change. This means you bought a return trip 12 hours or so BEFORE you depart. unless you have some sort of time machine in your pocket, you need to pay the man 20 to ride.
so, check, double check and triple check the dates.

Here's a list of places to stay (sort of) near the venue.
$$$$
For those that fly first class and want to walk to the venue, that's literally 3 blocks away...
http://www.hotelonrivington.com/
Not as much $$$, more eclectic.
This place is as bugged out as it gets. every room is painted by a different painter. it's cheap and real centrally located near some of the biggest Irish pubs around. near buses and trains too.
http://www.carltonarms.com/
This is where sid vicious killed nancy spungen. it's still the most bohemian hotel in manhattan. the velvet underground filmed videos here. this place is classic new york. make sure you see the room you're getting right after check in. some rooms are worse for wear. this is the place to stay for all you budding rock stars and fashion policia.
http://www.hotelchelsea.com
They film porn movies in here, and do all kinds of other freaky shit. still, it's one of the most centrally located to the village. nice quiet block.

Some advice from Mr. Q, for all the out-of-towners:
VERY IMPORTANT! BASED ON THE RESPONSE TO THIS EVENT THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT WE'LL BE RAMMED SO I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF BUYING TIX IN ADVANCE. THE LINK TO PURCHASE ONLINE IS:

If I buy tix and end up not being able to go, what happens? Can I return them, or have to hope someone could re-sell them for me?

Tonic is a pretty cool venue. The main room is pretty wide open from what I remember, with a bar in the back corner. There is a basement bar too, with booths fashioned out of gigantic barrels.

APEX BUS - http://apexbus.com
Round trip: $35.

DC: 610 I St. NW, DC
ROCKVILLE: In the back parking lot of 460 Hungerford Dr. Rockville, MD
BALTIMORE: 5501 O'Donnell Street, Baltimore, MD <- The Baltimore Travel Plaza
Drop-off: 88 E. Broadway New York, NY 10002.
NOTE: If you're taking the bus from Baltimore, i don't know if you can leave your car in the parking lot overnight. I'll research this and follow up.
Answer: I checked on this. You can leave your car at the main parking lot or the lot to the left of the main building....as long as you have a permit. The permit must be purchased in the building and costs $12. If you're carpooling, this might be the way to go.
Sure, $12 is expensive for one day/night, but it's still better than paying tolls, paying for NYC parking, filling the gas tank twice and getting Cinnabon's at every rest stop.
The phone number for the travel center is: 410-633-4611 if you all have more questions.

For those that fly first class and want to walk to the venue, that's literally 3 blocks away...

Wow, nice. I'd never heard of that place before. The pics look awesome!
Just checked reservations...they're very pricey, but the sort of splurge that might be worth it if you had time to spend the whole weekend in the city, not just 12 hours (and you were planning on noodling around that area, anyway). Rooms seem somewhat on the small side, even for ny.
