yeah... There is plenty to do outside of Ultra.

I'm planning more of a vacation at that time and I will hit the parties I like as an extra added bonus.

Ultra is just the last party of Winter Music Conference, the whole week is filled with SUPER fun things, that sometimes blow Ultra away.

if you go to WMC you HAVE to go to Ultra, its a must, where else can you pay $70 for that many headliners, or a rave with 60-70K people

i don't see how you can't have fun, last year was a blast

I'll be booking my hotel right after the holidays

the flier says 2 days, are they splitting it up this year?

wannaberavin

The word is es, two das with different headliners both days so you can actually see everyone and not feel so rushed. I dont know how the tickts sales will be or who will headline on what day. Very interested to see how that will pan out.

I never really been into the Ultra parties. I guess if I was into Trance or something I would be. You know you can catch most of the artists playing there at other cheaper(sometimes free) events in Miami right? I'm still debating on going or not next year.

wannaberavin
2006-12-20, 12:42 PM
Its not all about Trance, my fav genre is breakbeat and they have a breakbeat tent, also a house tent and a few others, they always have all the genres for your enjoyment. Its a blast to go to even if you only go once it is an experience. And yes, it is in Miami. Pretty warm and nice there in March compared to DC weather.

Mark85

Ultra has more then just trance

last year they had 2 areas with DNB, the DnB lineup was nasty and one of the areas was under trees to give the jungle effect, it was nuts, I stayed in the DnB area the whole time and missed PVD, the Killers, and all the other Trance/House DJ's, i went purely for the DNB

they even had the In-tune ragga sessions with Human last year (fuckin awesome)

last year we snuck back into VIP and took pictures and chilled with all the DnB DJ's

and if you were too sober last year, well thats your own damn fault

THE BLACKEST

Yeah and all of the dnb djs that were on the line up played at all of the dnb events in the area. Same w/ the Breaks djs. I'm not saying don't waste your $ on ultra. Do whatca like. My opinion, there are better events going on during the WMC in Miami.

I agree with both of you. Ultra is definately a BLAST but there are SOMETIMES better things and less crowds of people doing these things at WMC other than just Ultra.

I just typed out this long ass rant but all it does is make me sound really old and lame, so we'll just leave it at I guess massives aren't my thing anymore. My days of enjoying massives were left in the 90s, apparently. :geezer:

At least they had ribs last year, which did add a lot to my rave experience.

xgirl
2006-12-20, 02:03 PM
they also had arepas.

i had a blast at ultra last year, but that was due to the tequila related experience of being a golf cart driven directly into the house tent.

ZOMG!!! How is that possible? Last year I raved my entire left ass off. Skipped out on The Killers but between Erick Morillo, Danny Tenaglia, Darren Emerson, Prodigy, Infusion, aaaand Carl Cox I had the most wicked time. Then followed up with some serious minimal being laid down at the afterparty. Shit I still can't get over the sets that I heard.... or the good times I had hanging out with people.

Ok fine, here was my beef:

1. It took like 2 hours to get in.
2. The Killers were at least an hour late coming on. I didn't even get to see them, thankfully I had seen them before.
3. I missed seeing the Prodigy at Nation because I went to Miami and was going to see them there, and then Oakenfold or whoever blew out the sound system and I could barely even hear the Prodigy. We gave up after half their set and left. I was enraged. I wanted my money back and I didn't even pay to get in.
4. It took so long to get a drink I had to give up on getting drunk.
5. 90% of the people I wanted to see were playing at the same time.
6. I just don't like massives, mainly because you spend most of your time trying to get from one area to the other, find people, or figure out who is on, and you miss most of the music.
7. I have seen some disgusting port o potties in my day. The one I used at Ultra comes in #2 on the most disgusting list, 2nd only to the ones at Woodstock 99.

Good things:
1. The Freestylers. Out of the 500 people I saw that is the only set I was able to see all the way through and find a spot to dance during. I vaguely remember seeing the Autobots for about 10 minutes before I made a misguided decision to go see The Prodigy. There were like 20 people at the stage to see the Autobots, which is a fucking tragedy.
2. This girls buhdonkadonk in front of me during the freestylers:

3. PLURB (Peace Love Unity Ribs and Beer):

yea im sure your right but I was only 20 last year and in Miami you need to be 21 to go to all the other events, but i can guarantee you I'll be hitting all the other WMC parties this year

I enjoy the massives more then a small packed club, this year im trying to go to Ultra, Starscape, Bonnaroo, Whistle, All Good, Burning man, and Harvest festival and just live the festival life, although it depends on my funds

2007 is gonna be nuts, especially with sonar bringing back duece and buzz throwing parties at avenue

I will agree with you on some of that. Yes The Prodigy set was horrible due to the sound. Eric Morillo blew it up. The lines were CRAZY long and I also got sick of being in line more than enjoying myself, And ALOT of people were playing the same time as each other.

The benefits: This year it was be a two day event. I dont know but I am assuming so so many good acts arent playing at the same time. Also I am assuming that this will eliminate some of the people from the one day thing and people will either go to one day or the other to see certian acts or get to wasted one day and not go the second. The bathrooms were NASTY but what porto pottties are not, plus we searched for some that werent out in the open and found some that didnt have a line and werent that bad.

The things is I dont know how tickets are going to work and how much they will be. I am ANXIOUS to see how this year will play out being two days. And I want to be a part of the newness for if it is like Ultra should be then it will be a blast.

I did not got o ultra last year. The appeal of ultra to me is not really whos playing there, but being in that massive rave environment. Ultra shares obvious similarities in size to some of the best parties I've been to, i.e. classic ultraworld and such. Its more that feeling of nostalgia than whos actually playing. but its also $$$$$$$$$

TO APPEAR ON FIRST NIGHT
PAUL VAN DYK, CARL COX, ERICK MORILLO, DANNY TENAGLIA,
FERRY CORSTEN AND OTHERS SCHEDULED FOR NIGHT TWO
TICKETS ON SALE TODAY, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20

As ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (UMF), the nation’s premiere electronic music extravaganza, rolls into its ninth year, its producers have announced it will expand into a two-day festival in addition to serving as the official closing festival for the Winter Music Conference. Set for Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, 2007, UMF will return to downtown Miami’s beautiful waterfront Bicentennial Park. Tickets go on sale today.

ULTRA’s weekend kicks off that Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm and runs until midnight. Appearing over three stages is the festival headliner The CURE along with TiÎsto (who is slated for a rare live performance), Deep Dish, Shiny Toy Guns and Miss Kittin. Saturday Paul van Dyk and other turntable titans Carl Cox, Erick Morillo, Danny Tenaglia and Ferry Corsten will perform over nine stages from noon until midnight. The complete line-up for both days will be announced at a later date.

“After eight years of ULTRA my partner Alex Omes and I felt we needed to change things up a bit in order to keep the festival new and exciting as we continue the growth we have been lucky enough to have had throughout the years,” states producer Russell Faibisch. “By adding another day we felt we could offer the opportunity to enjoy live bands like The Cure, who are legends in our culture, while keeping true to our core audience and introducing them to something new.”

Tickets for ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL 9 are currently only available as two-day passes at $99.90 for general admission and $350 for VIP, plus tax and fees. VIP includes access to multiple, strategically placed VIP platforms with preferred viewing of UMF stages as well as several designated VIP tents and areas. Additional VIP amenities include: express entry into UMF with separate VIP entrance, VIP bars with no lines, air-conditioned restroom trailer facilities and seating areas with couches. VIP Table Service is also available. Contact vip@ultramusicfestival.com for more info. Tickets may be purchased through www.ultramuscfestival.com now and through select retail ticket outlets beginning in January.

From its humble beginnings on the beaches of Miami in 1999, the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL—founded by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes—has grown to extraordinary proportions. It has branched out to produce Ultra and UMF branded events in Miami, New York City (co-produced with Ultra Records), the Caribbean and Brazil, and will soon be announcing additional events in various cities around the world. ULTRA-branded events have sold out venues such as Miami’s Bayfront Park and American Airlines Arena as well as New York City’s Central Park Rumsey Field. In 2004, UMF created music history, as it became the first festival ever to be aired in HD on Pay-Per-View to more than 55 million homes for 45 days. In 2006 UMF 8 ranked #7 among international festivals in the Top 10 Festivals Chart according to Billboard (December 23, 2006). The ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL was also the recipient of the IDMA Award for ‘Best International Dance Event’ in 2005 and 2006.

Alot more of the clubs like it more than not. The clubs usually book alot of the people playing there for the week before and after and dont they are already there in Miami. Some of the dj's even do the after parties for some of the better clubs. You cant go to WMC and say you didnt see at least one of your fav dj's if they are still around. Usually anyone who is anyone is either there or at one of the events put on for WMC.

This 2-day ticket stuff is bullshit! I might go to Ultra on Saturday, but no chance on Friday. Friday night is for Future Sound of Breaks v5.0, no question. So not letting us buy single day tickets, may have me saying "Fuck Ultra" this year and just go to a Saturday night party. Maybe ViRam or Contagious. I wonder if they will lose other business for this reason.
