Splank 016 – Flore / Need You + Darftphunk Remix Out Now
Flore consolidates her position amongst a crop of up and coming talented French producers with possibly her strongest release to date. Following on from Lab-Rok floor smashers Boogie Child & Funky West, Need You has been a Splank! favourite ever since a cheeky CDR was handed over at Breakspoll this year. And we are very pleased to welcome Flore to the Splank fold.
After his acclaimed Splank! debut Right There/Light It Up, breakbeat man/band/beast of the moment Darftphunk, picks up the remix baton, adds his trademark no nonsense phat beats, ups the squelch factor to 10 and works in a 80’s b-boy electro drop.
… could this man get any more Darft? … Let’s hope so!

Sonia, M8 Mag + Update: This track has it all, funk, inventiveness, tight production, catchy, quirky and an all important vocal sample form the most excellent 80’s electro, hip hop diva, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. This also sounds really sexy in a French filtered , funk flanged, electro disco way, like Daft Punk. Not surprising then, as it’s all down to French DJ / producer Flore. We really love the way the vocal flits around like some demented phantom, very inventive. This tracks rocks hard on the dance floor, has loads of funk and is intelligently executed. The remix is chock a block with analogue bleeps and electro sprinklings complete with Bambaataa style breakdown…M8 single of the month December:
Jimmy MOFO (Mofo Mag): The bassline is the focal point of Need You, twisting and turning with splendid warbles as disco stabs and vocal samples join the arrangement until a screeching banshee riff build to the drop out. The darftphunk retains the funk on the flip.
