A friend gave me a demo copy of fruity loops 5 xxl, and i've been tweeking it all night. I friggin' love this program, but i'm really kinda lost. Can any of you tell me how to get the very most out of this program? I'm not a producer, but after fucking around with this program I may very well give it a try! But as of this moment, i'm very much lost. Suggestions?

well, it really depends on what you are asking.
i detest fruity loops, but there is a decent amount of shit you can do with it.
what exactly do you want to know?

i mean, it would take me all night to list all of the things you can do with it.
specifics?

at which part are you lost?

1. the left side is where you browse for your samples
- you can add your own samples to this by right clicking and exploring (then paste in the directory)
2. the next section (toward the right) is where you can drag and drop your samples (or vst's) and create loops
- the vst's are added through a menu option
- the loop can be created by selecting "bricks" OR by pressing f7 to get the piano roll screen
- by default there are 16 possible "bricks" giving you 4 beats (1-e-and-a, 2-e-and-a, etc), this can be increased if you want
3. the section on the right side is the sequencer where you sequence your "patterns"/loops
- make sure you click on the pattern name you are creating before creating the loop to the left, then once you want to create a new loop select another pattern name in the sequencer (you can chance the pattern name by right clicking on it)

there are tons of options for automation, fx, etc. but that should get you going....

soy "milk" (read "juice") is for hippies, i'd recommend whole ultra-pasteurized for long lasting freshness

This was helpful. Thank you.
And soy milk is not necessarily for hippies.
And a quick side note, my manual is in italian.

Heres the best way to use F.L. Go to Start menue -> Controll pannel -> add remove programs -> then uninstall it.

Time spent on Froot Poopz is time sadly wasted. I don't care how good your samples are or what plug-ins you use; everything that comes out of it has this... well... Fruti sound to it. It's the sound engine. Its lacking this shit they call fidellity. Its only real noticible to people with good ears but it has everything to do with how good your shit turns out.

Stop wasting time on writing well arranged video game music and beg borrow or steal Cubase or Live. They're harder to learn but just keep messin with em. You'll pick it up. Oh, n don't forget the Waves' and Native Instruments' plug-ins! You'll thank me later when you n yer buddy are comparing trax n yers kill him with one open juno blast.

successfull producers including concord dawn have put out excellent tracks using fruity loops. it's all about experience and how you use it. i'm sorry you don't have the ability to make anything good with it.

But as far as learning to produce goes . . . a beginner should be much better off with either of the programs that theLoopKing suggested. Maybe for an experienced user, fruity loops' mixer and sequencer can be adequate . . . but will they really help a beginner to understand the basic concepts of production? I doubt it.

First suggestion......

In order to get the Very Most out of this product , you might wanna buy the Actual Program!!!:icecream:

i'm actually curious who all uses FL studio here on the board, and if you got any samples of your work?

Shakey

I have used FL in the past. I still have it, just don't use it anymore. I believe I may have some work at home which uses FL, I will have to check. If I do, I will upload and post something.
