Hi John!

I've been wanting to add dubstep for a while, we're still in a sort of testing phase... I'm noticing more people asking for it, so I think we can have a good night with it. I'm still a beginner learning about it, but digging some of the stuff I've found so far.

Like all genres there is good and bad in everything. I've wasted some :loot: on some incredibly boring dubstep. I've found other dubstep to be some of the most amazing music I've heard in years.

Hm, I may consider coming out for some early action, 9:30-11:30. Would be completely dependent on finding a ride home though, and I'm prolly going to be hella tired from the night before and working lots of OT this week. But damn, dubstep and downtempo in one night. I like the experimentation with the lineups, Mr. Charles

man....when i was in london back in august i went to dubfwd (on joe nice's suggestion), which is an all dubstep weekly and the crowd reaction was INSANE.

the room was PACKED with sweaty ass kids goin absolutely crazy for every single drop. i can hoestly say that i havn't felt a vibe like that at a party of any genre around here in YEARS.

if i wasn't going to see alice in chains at the 9:30 club and then to five afterwards on wednesday with a full day of work and school on thursday i would totally be out for this. :lessthanthree:

This is one hell of a diverse lineup, Charly.
And of course, all top notch talent.
If it wasn't for my old balls and for the ridiculous party schedule I have lined up for the following 4 nights, I would come out fo sho.
However, there's always the possibility I might make the trip down...

There's no FWD>> branch in NYC (although that'd be fucking sweet). It's just that the last Dubwar party was called "DubFWD>>" since the two headlining DJ's (Hatcha & Yunx) are FWD residents.

John -- NYC's not my kind of town either, but the Dubwar parties are the exception. Always been great vibes at that party, especially the last one @ Crash Mansion. It def makes sitting for hours in front of the Holland Tunnel well worth it.

actually, i ran out of time and didnt play any aim. that list above was just a bunch of random producers that i usually play - since a lot of times people dont have a good idea just what exactly "downtempo" means (myself included.. thats partially why i love playing it).

i've got a few aim tunes on that mix that is posted in the OTBP forum, circadian rhythm. i have a ton of aim vinyl :)

: jealous :

As for what downtempo is, the way I look at it, it's anything that hovers around 100 BPM.
Hip Hop, Dub, Lounge, Jazz, Acid Jazz, Funk, Trip Hop, Bossa Nova, Samba, and other world music like Bhangra could all be lumped into the category of Downtempo.
Some dnb, like Jimpster, could be integrated into a Downtempo set.

I have always loved Downtempo, and I would LOVE to spin it, but sadly, I don't have any tunes.
And it's just so damned expensive to keep up with multiple genres.

shade
2006-10-27, 11:56 AM
i pretty much define downtempo as whatever the fuck i want to play :)

but yeah, i'd say it is all generally around that speed, though i probably jump back and forth a bit more than most people. i try to integrate as much different stuff as i can, really.

yep. i'm sure it's a repress though. although, not all the stuff i played is on vinyl. i use serrato for a majority of it.

a lot of the stuff i like to play in my downtempo sets never even gets to see a vinyl release in the first place.

Please know I did everything I could possibly do to establish a line of communication and make this party happen (entirely at my expense, at that), but it's a 2-way street and I can't control the actions of others. Sorry guys.
