i wonder if he had any idea period.

do you think he ever knew just how much music he was a part of?

even if he knew that the break was sampled i doubt he ever really realized just how MUCH.

well, he DID live in Atlanta.....

Atlanta has a killer DNB scene, and the most recognized name in dark DNB comes from Atlanta. I don't think he knew just how much influence he had, but i'm sure he heard his drum loop sampled about 1325445423653643 times, passing by clubs, in passing cars, etc.

All members of the Winstons, uniformly, never persued pressing ANY charges or seeking ANY royalties for the THOUSANDS of uses of the Amen break...

....even though the music business never did them well financially. I understand they all went on to humble non-music related employment.

How much money would they have gotten from 2 Live Crew or Death Row records? Who much money from Def Jam? How much fame and noterity would they have, no doubt, gained from persuing this in the media?

These guys, silently, fought the good fight for media freedom at great sacrifice to themselves.

TRUE HEROS OF MINE.
R.I.P.

I'll be sure to burn one in honor later while listening to the Amen Brother 45.

Wow.
This man lived and died, and the majority of people who listen to hip hop, breaks, and dnb will never, ever know who he was, or how much impact he and his 6 second drum solo had on popular music.

Dos dedos, mi amigo.

I read an awesome book about copywrite and it had a section dedicated to this man and his amen break.

Perfect example of how old art is needed for new art and corporate greed has gotten out of hand.
