I must say I was a little skeptical of this party considering the fact that there is no dnb but after attended last saturday night and enjoying the hell out of it I have deff changed my mind.

The venue is dope, the vibe is dope, and I was happy to see some buzz kids there. And considering the fact that its about 15 mins from my house doesnt hurt either.

Hopefully there will be more dubstep outside, and perhaps some soulfull, liquidy dnb in the future?

Accepting demos? Id love to drop some smoothed out dnb there

I can't tell you guys just how happy it made me to see some more "original junglists" out at our party on Saturday. Most of you don't know that DnB was the first music to really grab a hold of me - and it hasn't let go yet! I have an equal love of House/DnB/2-Step.... some people don't understand how this is possible, but let me tell you my life is much better because of it.
THERE IS BRILLIANT MUSIC IN EVERY GENRE!!! AND THERE IS SHITTY MUSIC IN EVERY GENRE..... We are doing our best to represent as much BRILLIANT MUSIC as possible. Yes, the overall format is predominently House music inside, however, Dave & Albert (and the rest of the 88 Music Crew) are doing a fantastic job of showcasing experimental EDM, techno, tech house, breaks, atmospheric dnb, soulful dnb, etc. You probably aren't going to hear heavy, dark, evil sounding DnB at Gallery - it just doesn't fit the overall vision. You will however continue to be exposed to the very best in EDM. I beg you guys to come with open minds, ears, and wallets (heheheh) Try to listen to music that you don't normally get down with and you might just be surprised.

For anyone that doesn't like house music out there, and feels that they are the ultimate junglist.... I challenge you to come and talk to me about DnB - see if you really know as much as you think you know.... DnB runs through my veins - it is one of the only things that has always been there for me - and I LOVE HOUSE MUSIC JUST AS MUCH!

Oh yeah, and for all you Hospital fans out there... LOGISTICS was at Gallery ALL NIGHT LONG ON SATURDAY - listening to house music - AND LOVING IT!

I'll see everyone tonight at FIVE I hope,
-Graham

Here is what's in store for the Alley this Saturday, courtesy of 88 Music:

Steve PMX (PMX Radio) 12- 3am Hailing from the Kimchi-ridden streets of Annandale VA, Steve PMX has been a fixture in the DC-area Jungle/DnB scene for years. Steve (aka DJ Eternal) started getting booked back in 1995, quickly becoming a local favorite up in Allentown PA for his signature Slo-Jungle (33rpm)/Breaks sets - coming through regularly to play at Sonic Boom and random one-off parties put together by the Undaground Set crew. In the late 90s, Eternal was drafted into a local dnb crew called Parametrics. Eventually he became involved with a few dnb promoters and quickly gained residency with the Act Your Age weekly dnb party. Summer 2002 brought a new residency for Eternal - with DC Skillz' weekly 'Destination' party at the enormous DC Tunnel venue. Since 2005, Steve has been busy bringing the best underground DJ sets to the masses with PMX Radio. Currently, Steve is getting back on the decks with a focus on nasty breaks and mental Electro - the real bugged-out stuff.

Well I know how much everyone has missed hearing Scott spin around here, so of course I understand your dilema..... However we do stay open till 4AM, so you should have plenty of time to stop by the benefit that Scott is playing at ZaaZaa (forgive me if I spelled that wrong) and then hop onto 495 (via the Toll Road) and get up to Gallery with plenty of time left to hear most of Derrick's set. The drive from Sterling should take between 30 - 40 mins depending on how fast you drive. Derrrick will probably play from around 12:30 - 4 (but we try to keep our set times open for adjustment depending on how the night is developing. One thing is for sure, Mr. Carter is gonna tear down the fucking house!!!! I don't know when Scott is playing, but someone should give hime a ride up to Gallery after his set - we would love to have him as our guest.

Hoopefully we will be able to have Scott play Gallery some time soon - I know that would make a lot of people on this board happy ;)

One thing to consider though....

There are going to be a SHITLOAD of people coming out to see Derrick play on the 23rd.... so the earlier you get there, the less chance you have of having to wait in long lines. PLUS Keenan & Dimitri have a big surprise in store for those of you that aren't familiar with their abilities.... These two will be setting the atmosphere in proper form - I wouldn't miss their set for the world!

Ultimately I'm just glad to see so many options for House music lovers (and EDM fans in general) in the DC area again.... it's a beautiful thing to see Derrick Carter, Scott Henry, Marques Wyatt & Joey Youngman ALL playing the same night in the DC area, and ALL at different venues!!!!

Yes, it is frustrating to have to choose between such great talent - but isn't it better to have options than to not have any descent choices!?!?

I'll be jackin' my ass ALL NIGHT LONG at Gallery, but I will be supporting the other events that are planned for this night in spirit - I know that there are enough people out there to make each event a success.

Come out this Saturday and I'll show you!

You might already be familiar with the origin of house.... but I highly recommend watching a documentary called "Maestro" - It has some great footage of the early days in NYC & Chicago. Places like the Sanctuary, the Loft, the Paradise Garage, the Gallery (the original Gallery in NY - circa 1972) the Warehouse, the Music Box, the Power Plant, etc......

You can also get a great description of where the term "jackin" came from in this documentary - Pump Up The Volume (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6000267013777292744&q=pump+up+the+volume+part+2&hl=en) -

Early House anthems like "Jack Your Body" by Steve Silk Hurley & "Jack Trax" by Chip E. helped pave the way for the House explosion in Chicago in the early 80s. "Jackin" was the term that people used to describe the movements that they made to house music.

Sorry for the slightly nerdy history lesson - I have been fascinated with the origin of house lately - been watching a lot of documentaries and reading books to get the true story of where this music came from, and who helped to push things forward back in the late 70s & early 80s.

I would give anything to be able to see Larry Levan doin' his thang at the Paradise Garage, or Ron Hardy blowing people's minds at the Music Box, or Frankie Knuckles makin' people sweat till the sun came up at the Warehouse. THOSE WERE THE PIONEERS THAT WE OWE EVERYTHING TO!!!

For those of you who might not know who GENE HUNT is:

When one looks back into the history of Chicago House Music, one man's name seems to pop up in many scenarios. That man is none other than Gene Hunt, a legend to those who know where House Music has come from, and an innovator to those who are new to his sound. His landmark track, "Living in a Land" is considered by many to be one of the best Chicago Acid House tracks. Gene Hunt's first release was on the infamous TRAX imprint and he swiftly followed it up with a string of tracks that were personified by a strong influence from Detroit. Deep strings mixed with intricate drum patterns were his trademark and his Melodies EP for Nepenta was one of the labels first hits. A Chicago house music pioneer, and World Class deejay, Gene has collaborated with a range of critically-acclaimed artists and producers, including Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Carl Cox, Paul Johnson, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Frankie Knuckles, and Ron Hardy. A key contributor who helped shape house and techno music worldwide, Gene is no doubt a true innovator of the Chicago house sound.

Or you can just let people know what to expect.

sometimes it is better to do a separate thread so that people that aren't into house will actually look at it..... there are still a lot of heads on here that don't know that we showcase all kinds of EDM!!!

9/16- 88 Alley @ Gallery-Chris Whaley, EKUE, & VJ Metaphreaq
Chris Whaley (10-12pm) playing left-of-center Down Tempo EKUE (Subfreaqs) (12 - 3am) playing 2-Step and NuSkool Breaks
The world is not ready for what this solo producer, on his way to the top, is bringing to the table. When it comes to music there is nothing this talented bomb waiting to explode, cant handle. Ladies and gentlemen, look out for the man they call Ekue, because he is on the rise. Originally born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, he has been involved and successful in some form of music since the age of 15. From first place in his high school battle of the bands, to opening up for national acts, and getting airplay on local radio stations, Ekue was destined for stardom. Being introduced to an underground scene, at 16, where music was the only thing that mattered, changed his life forever. Instantly sucked in by the culture and expression of unique music, he began learning the art of Djing. Soon his eagerness to be creative and longing for more knowledge brought an emptiness that could only be fulfilled by entering a cult known as producers. With the help of some other creative minds, this diamond in the ruff adventured into a new world. Still wanting more, destiny brought him 600 miles from home, to Washington, DC to enroll in school for audio engineering. Learning everything possible, he found himself venturing into a new, more main stream culture hip-hop. With Ekues vast knowledge of production and fresh memory of studio engineering he fit right in. Having a strong passionate connection to both cultures he could not give either one up. So fate has taken him to embrace both, like split personalities. Music is my heart and soul, he says. So with the know how to dj, produce, and engineer, this man on his journey to experience life to its fullest, is set out to touch the souls of others as he was. Chris Whaley (10-12am) Playing proper electro VJ Atomist Chris Whaley [Monotonik Records / whalefish.org / Camp Monkey Business] Chris seldom djs out in public these days but he's been continually rocking out his bedroom since 1994. His main love is techno, idm, and abstract downtempo--although he's very nostalgic for 80s tunes and Commodore 64 games. As a producer, Chris has been involved in the tracker and demo scene for over ten years and is an ardent supporter of the netlabel scene. His lastest project is a 10-year anniversary dj mix for Monotonik records, which will be released early October.

OmniPresent Syndicate & Gallery Sessions Present:
THE HISTORY OF HOUSE MUSIC - PART 1
featuring: DERRICK CARTER + Keenan & Dimitri
+ Aaron Lee & Chris Whaley in the Alley w/ MarCalamari & Friends

THIS SATURDAY 9.23.06 AT GALLERY RESTAURANT LOUNGE

Join us for a night that promises to go down in the recordbooks, as well as on many a wall-o-shame! That's right people, DLC is coming back to the DC area for a night of 4-to-tha-floor insanity guaranteed to make you jack your body!

Derrick Carter [Classic, Blue Cucaracha, Chicago]
As one of the people who helped spur the 1990s house revival in Chicago, Derrick Carter produces a hearty blend of house and techno - dreamy, lofty house music full of funk and grooves, with complex beat arrangements more rooted in Techno. Derrick is described by Detroit's Richie Hawtin as "America's last true underground DJ.” Carter records under a variety of names (including Rednail, Symbols and Instruments, Oneiro and Tone Theory), has collaborated with numerous DJs and producers (including Mark Farina, Luke Solomon, Chris Nazuka and John Griffin) on numerous tracks, and has founded two labels (Blue Cucaracha and Classic). Carter's latest work is a raucous romp through techno and acid house/deep house territory, and continues to prove his talent.

Dimitri [Bodyrock, XM, The Move]
DC's very own Parisian city dweller - Dimitri, moved to the metropolitan area in the mid 90's. Picking up some old, decrepit set of equipment in 98' he went off to launch a number of events with the help of good friends and little idea to what would happen next. Must've worked out alright for him mainly because the 90's have been over for quite some time but also because of his general attitude in the house scene. From cramped lounges to lavish venues Dimitri made his mark from the East Coast to the Mid-West with his eclectic library of house music. You can find him across the nation on XM Radio's The Move as well as one of the driving minds behind visual media firm Armed Media. Dimitri keeps it funky and that's what its All About

Keenan [Bodyrock, XM, The Move]
A self proclaimed "House Fool," Keenan has managed to make most of DC dance the night away with his signature sound of Chacarone-infused boompty boomp.... If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing and hearing this man do his thing behind the decks, do yourself a favor and come early this Saturday - YOU WON'T BE DISAPPONTED! You can also find him across the nation on XM Radio's The Move with cohost and partner in crime Dimitri, but there is no substitute for seeing him perform in person.

Aaron Lee [ditysugar.net]
For the past 4 years Aaron Lee has mainly played a wide variety of
house music ranging anywhere from deep soulful house to some jackin' funky
tech house all over the dc/va/md area. During this time he also managed
to collect and dj an eclectic mix of downtempo and midtempo tunes
including dub, reggae, trip hop, acid jazz, and old school hip hop
instrumentals at various bars and lounges in the dc area. He was
inspired to do this by going back to my roots, being that he was raised
on hip-hop, r&b, and reggae while growing up in the NYC areas of Staten
Island & the Flatbush section of Brooklyn.

Chris Whaley [Monotonik Records / whalefish.org / Camp Monkey Business]
Chris seldom djs out in public these days but he's been continually rocking out his bedroom since 1994.

This is a freindly reminder from OmniPresent Syndicate to act now and register for our free 2 part seminar on THE HISTORY OF HOUSE MUSIC......

Don't let this opportunity slip away! We have assembled some of the most talented and gifted individuals from the field which make up our panel of experienced instructors.

-Are you tired of looking like a fool, knodding and pretending like you know what someone is talking about when they reference names like David Mancuso or Jaime Principle?

-Wouldn't you love to know what your "cool" friend from Chicago is talking about when she starts going off about the time Ron Hardy had to put cold steaks over his eyes to stop the swelling before his set at the Music Box?

-Doesn't the thought of actually finding out where house music came from rather than believeing the story you got from some cracked-out candy raver that you met at a Texaco in Manassass sound appealing?

If you answered yes to any of those questions - THIS CLASS IS MEANT FOR YOU!

We have divided our syllabus into two parts - Part 1 will focus on the Chicago movement - how it came to be, it's early years, the individuals who contributed significantly to the Chicago sound/scene, and an analysis of the effect of house music on the native people of Chicago and music enthusiasts worldwide......DERRICK CARTER [Classic, Blue Cucaracha, Chicago] will be the lead instructor for this section of the seminar, with help from his TA's Keenan & Dimitri. Professor Carter helped spur the 1990s house revival in Chicago, and is described by Detroit's Richie Hawtin as "America's last true underground DJ.”

Part 2 of this highly informative yet lighthearted tutorial will shift it's focus to the New York movement - how it came to be, it's early years, the individuals who contributed significantly to the New York sound/scene, and an analysis of the effect of house music on the native people of New York as well as the industry as a whole.....TODD TERRY [X-MIX Productions, NYC] will be acting as our honored guest and lead instructor, he will be assisted by his TA's Shane Camp & Chris Cooley. More than any other producer, Professor Terry defined New York house during the '80s, a varied sampladelic smorgasbord blending the sounds of classic disco, the more introspective Chicago sound pioneered earlier in the decade, plus plenty of hip-hop attitude and sampling piracy. And with two of the most respected crossover remixes of the house era ("I'll House You" by the Jungle Brothers and "Missing" by Everything but the Girl), Terry more than earned his title "Todd the God."

For a limited time only we are giving you the opportunity to see THE HISTORY OF HOUSE MUSIC PARTS 1 & 2 - ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE!!!
All you have to do is send an email to info@omnipresentdc.com with a list of all full names that you would like to register, and make sure you show up to GALLERY RESTAURANT LOUNGE in Silver Spring, MD before 12:00AM on SATURDAY SEPT 23 & SATURDAY SEPT 30.

HELP US PUT AN END TO HOUSE MUSIC MISINFORMATION - ALL IT TAKES IS TWO SATURDAY NIGHTS OUT OF YOUR WHOLE LIFE AND YOU TOO COULD BE KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT THE MUSIC YOU LOVE SO DEARLY......

Haven't you had enough of those embarrasing moments when you get caught pretending to know about a dj/producer/record/track and sopmeone calls you out in front of the guy or girl you were trying to impress!?!?
