\\ AGENDA \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

+ MIXED SIGNALS is pleased to announce a massive follow up to our first party, and it promises to be hotter than the DC summer. Continuing on our mission to bring all things techno to the capital city, we have constructed a proper line-up that features some of the best in deep house, tech-house, bangin' techno, and minimal. Captivating live, mixed video projections and a truly ingenious infrared art installation using live video input from dance floor will be on exhibit. In addition, a late night food menu will be available on the patio, underneath the stars. Come and join us for an extended night of visual art, forward-thinking music, and positive vibes.

\\ TIME & SPACE \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

+ FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
+ HOURS 21:00 - 06:00+
+ 1208 U STREET, NW DC 20009

\\ ARTISTS BRIEFINGS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

+ BEN WU is making the journey from his current hometown of San Diego all the way to Washington, DC to present what he calls his 'stickyminimaltechacidphunk' brand of beats. DJing for 8 years, Ben has gained early recognition as the winner of Ann Arbor, Michigan's "Solar" spin-off in 1998, and as a resident at Detroit's "Science Club" in 2002. Since then, he has rocked parties such as Ann Arbor's "Necto" as well as Toronto's "World Electronic Music Festival." Hailed by URB magazine, this selector is not one to miss.

+ DYLAN DRAZEN is one of the most well-traveled and globally respected techno DJ/producers in the US. His mastery on 3 decks, 2 CD players, a sampler, and FX has earned him the Spanish nickname 'un máquina' because of the way he manipulates clusters of knobs, buttons, and faders during his sets. Within one session, Dylan will show his techno roots and seamlessly shift genres while exploring hard, tribal, deep, floating, pushing, and swirling sounds. Witness for yourself this true hero of the underground.

+ RYAN CROSSON took the next logical step to DJing by producing his own music in the Fall of 2003. By expressing a tireless work ethic in the studio, Ryan signed music to Cologne based label, Trapez Limited, just one year after he began writing. Talented and driven, this young Detroit native is making a global impact with his redefining approach to techno music. Ryan will demonstrate with two loaded-down laptops why his original productions have been getting caned regularly by DJ extraordinaire and M_nus label-mate, Richie Hawtin.

+ METAPHREAQ will present his unique style of mixed video projection artistry. His adept skills at combining moving images of the rhythms of urban landscapes and lighthearted vintage video clips sliced with contrasting geometric shapes have earned him a seat on the always avante-garde '88' music crew. Always insistent on keeping things fresh and different, he is certain to take us on an unexpected journey through the depths of his virtual space.

+ PETER KIRN is a New York-based composer and media artist who works with cameras and custom computer software to create reactive, interactive motion-controlled animations, lit in infrared. Bodies and dance drive live 3d and 2d animations in sparkles, patterns, and sketched, imagined renderings of how the computer sees. Peter is a contributor to Macworld, Keyboard, and Computer Music, the author of the book Real World Digital Audio, and the editor of the Create Digital Motion and Create Digital Music blog/zines. He's currently teaching music and visual technology at Brooklyn College and the 3rd Ward gallery. On this night, he will challenge the confines of creating art through technology.

And for the final week's countdown...to introduce our DJs....

First up....

http://www.djsatori.com/images/BenWu2.jpg

http://www.djsatori.com/images/BenWu.jpg

For the last eight years, Ben Wu has steadily built an impressive resume that has gained him a reputation in the States and Canada as a DJ that will make you move your body.

Ben first started turning people’s heads in 1998. Some of his accomplishments early on include; winning the 1st Annual DJ Spin-off at Ann Arbor’s “Solar” – run by the Intuit-Solar label; holding a successful Saturday residency at the Detroit super-club “Science,” during the summer of 2000; and has opened up for such world class DJ’s and acts as Richie Hawtin, John Aquaviva, Richard “Humpty” Vission, Adam X, Paranoid Jack, Neil Landstrumm and Kooky Scientist.

The years 2001 and 2002 proved to be even busier and bigger for Ben. Playing Detroit to Toronto and everywhere in between. Ben was busy and even dropped his beats on the very first World Electronic Music Festival (WEMF) in Toronto to thousands of people. Ben was also seen in Detroit rocking raves and such clubs as Ann Arbor’s Necto and Detroit’s Motor.

One of Ben’s Mix-CD’s in 2002 turned heads across the country and was praised in URB magazine, which lead to gigs all over the Mid-West and as far west as Los Angeles.

Residing in San Diego, California since late 2002, Ben has brought his brand of beats West, playing there and up the coast to L.A. and San Francisco. Still staying true to his Mid-West roots however, he recently traveled back to Detroit for several stops, including the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Necto.

Next up...Dylan Drazen

http://www.djsatori.com/images/dylanlogo.jpg
http://www.djsatori.com/images/dylan.jpg

Dylan Drazen is one of America's most well traveled and globally respected techno DJs. Despite his nature to fly steadily below the world's Superstar DJ radar over the past decade, Dylan has gained legions of devoted fans in worldwide broadband bedrooms who purr at the thought of him appearing in their home town.

Dylan is obsessed with finding and exposing new music. Professionally trained as a studio sound engineer, it was inevitable he'd start to create his own. His original productions have been showcased under esteemed labels like François K.'s Clicktracks and Chicago's Blueline, Montreal's Ascend and Sweden's G-Force. But most of his classic distorted hard techno work can be found in the archive of Brooklyn's Remains Records, run by Side Four co-pilot Tony Rohr. Several of his tracks have been licensed for DJ mixes, including compilations from Chris Liebing and Frankie Bones.

The onset of Dylan Drazen's DJ career occurred in 1993; now he's performed in four continents and his musical memory is an encyclopedia of dance music history. When not on the road, he's either mining beats in his Brooklyn studio or diligently searching for set material in the troughs of New York's record shops. His productions span the arenas of house and techno--hard, tribal, deep, floating, pushing and swirling. Impossible to put to words, it's usually hour four into one of his extended sets where every style comes together--blending, lifting, causing a style unto its own.

During performances, Dylan's preferred musical palate consists of three decks, a couple of CD players, a looping sampler and outboard effects. During his frequent shows in Spain it's typical to see him grabbing, twisting and manipulating clusters of knobs buttons and faders, all precisely moved to follow his momentary sonic path. They often call him "un máquina," chasing the inspiration flowing through him. Nothing is planned until seconds before it occurs, and when it does, it is extremely deliberate. Sometimes daring and unexpected but strangely fitting sounds are injected into the system on the fly, displaying a true love for his craft. Not afraid to experiment, he risks humiliation before thousands.

Given a few hours of warming up, Dylan Drazen will challenge your taste and sense of what a DJ should be. Few master the flow of seamless genre shifting within one set with such technical mastery. His techno roots show as he occasionally dips into the more popular world of tribal and deep house. But he's also been known to execute sessions of straight ahead metallic techno without an ounce of deviation. Many factors contribute to where a set will go, but the final product won't be known, even to Dylan, until it's over.

Relentlessly rising as one of the world's primary international dance music luminaries, Dylan has even occasionally been granted access to the teched out booths in the most respected past and present nightclubs in his own backyard: Avalon, Arc, The Tunnel, Twilo and Exit. Refusing politics, a true hero to the underground, Dylan Drazen displays equal parts skill and sonic finesse, giving proof to the dream that living what you love can become a reality.

Last but not least......Ryan Crosson

http://www.djsatori.com/images/ryan.jpg

Born and raised in Metro-Detroit, Ryan discovered electronic music in his late teenage years After strictly DJing for a few years, he took the next logical step by beginning to produce his own music in Fall 2003. Drawing from artists like Plastikman, Matthew Dear, Stewart Walker, and a heavy dose of Magda DJ sets, Ryan focused his attention on percussive programming, dubby basslines, and dark atmospheres. By expressing a tireless work ethic in the studio, Ryan was soon noticed for his efforts by local Detroit label, Beretta Music. Not long after this, Ryan signed music to Cologne based label Trapez Limited just one year after he began writing music. The EP release on Trapez LTD. titled, "Say So " was well received with many positive reviews from a plethora of international artists.

In between the signing and release of his first record, Ryan also put together a 4 track mp3 EP for the Montreal based Archipel Net-Label. His music has also appeared on two various artist compilations for TicTacToe records and Year of the Machine recordings.

In the Summer of 2005, Ryan played his first international dates with impressive live performances in Berlin, and Cologne. As more opportunities arise, Ryan wishes to tour more internationally and hopes to develop a relationship with a core group of 2 -3labels where he can fully develop his sound and take his production to the next level. Current influences include Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, Guido Schneider and Troy Pierce.

Talented and driven, this young Detroit native is making an impact
internationally with his music. Look for upcoming releases in the
coming months from Ryan on Minus, Beretta Grey, Telegraph and Trapez Ltd.

KUDOS out to you guys for throwin this party!!!

I missed the Militia party becuase I had to see Woody!! But alas, I knew there was no shot I would miss Dylan!! Last time I saw him was about 5 years ago at a Kick Drum party with Dearborn. That was INSANE...and I digress...

I was very pleased with Ben Wu. I was not really familiar with him, but I was thought it set the tone perfectly. Dylan was dropping some silly, hard tracks for every bit of the 2-3 hours he was spinning. He did start to change gears toward the end, but that was OK by me. Just when I thought he couldn't get harder, he managed to take it up a few notches.

My only complaint would be the sound. While it was adequate, it just wasn't fantastic.

My understanding is this is a new party. You guys keep up the hard work, and it will be on the up and up. Plus, bringing some SOLID TECHNO to our area.

So what's up for Oct?? :) Talked to quite a few people, and everyone was very pleasent and there to listen to some quality techno! A few of the blokes I talked to were amazed at what Drazen was accomplishing.

It does make me chuckle that there were people there, that didn't really know what was happening, but that's nothing new when it comes to DC techno! haha.

Fun time overall!!

Tony

PS. You have a good thing going on here!! Keep doing it right, and continued success will follow!

Sorry I haven't been on to post sooner. This was an amazing night. Dylan Drazen tore it up beginning to end. He kept it hard and driving throughout, just what I was looking for. Seemed to be a decent amount of people there. I hope it was a success. Bringing Drazen was a brilliant idea to whomever thought of it. Great job all around guys.
I cannot wait to see who October brings. Keep the techno flowing.
