How much water do you drink a day?
And what's your routine like (for comparison purposes)?
I've been told that just for the Krav Maga classes I should be drinking 3 liters of water a day. That seems ridiculous, and I feel like I'm spending my whole day drinking water or peeing.

i drink 70 - 80 ozs a day.
all i do is run about 3-4 miles a day, and go to the gym for an hour every other day.

Around 80 ounces.
It takes some getting used to, but eventually you feel 1000000 times better.
(Gym 3-5 days/week for about 1-2 hours)

80 oz. is the standard, but I'll usually chug extra if I go crazy at the gym or know I'll be drinking. Then I'm usually attached to my Brita tank the day after drinking.

Yes, if you plan on drinking you should take in about 110-120 ozs that day and the day after.
it makes you feel like 1,000,000 bucks....no hangover whatsoever.
Plus its healthy.

Heh. Actually I've been taking the Krav Maga for 2 months now, and rock climbing for like 5 or 6. Has very little to do with Buzz closing and a lot more to do with not wanting to live like I have been anymore.

I never seem to get enough water in my diet. Usually less than 40 oz a day i'd imagine, that is, unless im hungover....Then im drinking water like it is my job.
Do you guys up the amount or offset it in any way when you go out drinking?
i've read that alternating every drink with a bottle of water of soda water (not tonic water as its rather bad for ye) is an effective way to keep down one's calorie count.
however i've noticed that over time one tends to forget to alternate.

I drink about 20 oz. of water per meal, and in the gym drink when I feel thirsty. Water fountain break is about 30-40 secs., or about the recommended time to rest one's muscles between sets of most exercises.
Oh yeah, and coffee, so that's about another 20-30 oz. I'm always peeing.
For weight training, there's some new research that says the line between enough water and too much water while exercising means a big difference in muscle teardown. Lots of water means your body doesn't tear down muscle tissue at a rate handy for muscle-developing exercise, though muscle tone would probably be unaffected. I imagine for a martial art, though, with more full-body stuff, you'd want to drink lots of water.

As I understand it, the "ideal" amount of water to drink with or without working out on a regular basis is half your body weight in fluid ounces. So let's say you weight 150. 75floz a day should be about right. You're also short.
In theory.

i work out on an elliptical for about 30 minutes a day 4-5 times a week. i don't drink any more water on those days. i'd guess about 24-32 oz a day...

Ive cut out all soda. I drink only water during the day. Ive found myself drinking 100fl oz a day at times. I just fill up a 32fl oz bottle every so often at work and it adds up.

Ive gained a lot of muscle mass since beginning a pretty rigorous workout routine since Janusry. I drink between 90 and 120fl oz of water a day. Im only about 175 (depending on that time of the month).
For a while, I was drinking about a gallon of water a day.
That's fucking unbelievably hard to do.
I spent the better part of the day in the bathroom.
Now I'm at about 60–80 oz per day, but I'd like to be up around 100.
However, I find that I drink the most water during the week.
It's easy to force myself to chug water while sitting at my desk for 8+ hours a day.
Yet I simply don't have the discipline enough to be as hardcore about my water intake when I'm dicking off on the weekends.
As for my water intake after drinking, I try to rehydrate the next day, but I get too lazy to drink as much water as I should.
As for workouts, admittedly, I've been slacking a bit as of late, but I typically try to take longer runs (5-6 miles) on Monday and Saturday, and go to the gym Tues–Fri.
My gym workouts consist of a 2 mile warmup run, and upper-body circuit weight training on Tuesday and Thursday, and leg circuit weight training on Wednesday and Friday.
I'm usually in the gym for at least 2 hours.

From what I understand, Cherry fisting is considered a high impact aerobic exercise. That easily makes up for your slacking.
And hootin', hollerin', and ass slappin' burns at least 90 quadrazillion calories.

I'm usually in the gym for at least 2 hours.
I pretty much can only workout during lunch. My workout is confined to about an hour. I guess I have no excuse as the gym is right behind my job. Usually after 12 hours of work on my feet, I want to spend anytime at the gym.

My workout consists of mentally tearing down any motivation I might have had in the morning by 3pm.
Tough work, but you should see how big my brain is.
Lame. I just need to start my routine again, and then I have no problems working out. It's actually draggin my ass to the gym for the 1st time that's killer.

Whenever I go for a swim I end up drinking like 7 glasses of water afterwards. I have a thirst that I NEVER have with a long walk or gym workout. I don't know what it is but I like it because it's like I NEED the water.

For fun, read Andrew Vontz's article about bodybuilder Jay Cutler (http://www.andrewvontz.com/feature_stories/FHM_JayCutler.htm), in FHM. You can fast forward to "drink" and read about what pro bodybuilders do in re: water consumption right before competitions.
Jay's goal at presstime for this story was to win Mr. Olympia. Since the article ran, he won 2nd place, twice.

I drink a gallon at work, then I go home and go running, then I drink some more. You totally get used to carrying around a bottle of water with you everywhere. It's good for you, Philliam!

I hope this was just a sarcastic comment, and not what you really believe.
Because the reality is, by the time you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
That feeling is your body's last-ditch effort to inform you that it needs water.

not really, if your working out correctly.
after stretching, cardio (30-45min), strength training, stretching again, 2 hours sounds just about right.

i could be wrong but i believe the idea behind that is the appetite suppression one gets from filling up with water, thus, weight loss.
i hadn't thought about it until i saw this but it occured to me that i've been consuming over 100 ounces of water a day on average. since the weather got hot as balls that is. yay for this thread.

2 hours is lunacy unless you're prepping for a serious endurance sport.
but whatever, to each their own.

Besides simply being good for your body, appetite suppression is one of the advantages to drinking a lot of water.

amen.
i try to drink a glass before every meal. also, if you drink super cold water, you burn more calories b/c your body has to use more energy to raise it to body temp.

Drink water until your pee is clear to almost clear. Doesn't count if you are drinking alcohol/caffeine though...cuz they are diuretics.

Almost everything people say about water is bullshit. http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp
Yes I realize that's snopes, but I knew right offhand that they had an article about it but you can google for many articles on the myths of water consumption.
As far as my routine. I do a full body 3 times a week. Workouts last about hour maybe hour fifteen if I'm hung over. Im on a deadlift/bench cycle right now, I switch those up every 3-6 months or so to squats and dips just a personal preference thing.
Deadlifts (shrug at the top)
Bench
Crunch
Overhead press
Bent over rows
Curls
Wrist Curls (I switch these up with wrist rollers when I start a new cycle)
Lying L-Flys (preventative rotator cuff shit)
I do all pretty much 3 sets of 10. Mainly a HIT routine.
So uh yea.
Oh as for cardio when I was doing cardio I do it HIIT style. http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp
Can google HIIT for more.

I've been told that just for the Krav Maga classes I should be drinking 3 liters of water a day. That seems ridiculous, and I feel like I'm spending my whole day drinking water or peeing.
i don't actually measure the amount of water i drink, and i do like to drink coffee. you can actually over hydrate, but it also depends on your workout style and what you are trying to achieve.
as for workouts, i am currently on a 4 day lift cycle, and thursday, my off day from the gym i try to do a crossfit style body and cardio excersize, i try to change that up every week. a big thing about lifting and health is routines, and they are bad. best thing for you to do is to shock your body, stress it out differently each day, if possible, and do as little isolation style lifts or excersizes as you can.
im also trying to incorporate alot of things i read on gym jones and crossfit forums into my daily workouts, trying new and different things as much as possible.
I finally just got back into working out and to break myself in again I'm doing circuit training which consisted of back-to-back supersets.
For example once I'm done with a thorough warm-up (stretching & 10 minute bike) I'll do sets of the following with no rest in between to build up my heart rate:
Dumbell curls
Cable flyes
Leg Extensions
Dumbell Lateral Raises
Leg Curls
Close-grip benchpresses
Leg lifts (on the bench)
With a week behind me I can honestly say that I'm sore as shit. Once my muscles get strengthened up a bit I am going to move into training splits where I focus on certain muscle groups in one day.
The tough thing for me is that I'm trying to gain weight. Most people have the tendency to want to lose it. So it's probably quite disgusting the way my diet looks right now.

another thing i am trying to incorporate into my workouts is opposing muscle groups and opposing lower and upper body sets. today is a good example, i will be doing a leg routine to start off with with weights, squats, leg curls, calf raises, etc, then finish with biceps.. its a different feeling when you lift like that, all the blood is in the lower body muslce groups, and then you start hammering arms and get a full pump.
i highly recommend trying that
i agree with that statement... although it goes against every theory of gaining mass, i've noticed that for me to get a full pump i have to do really high rep sets. i'm talking like 15-20 reps, if not 30.
god i can't wait to get back in the gym.
my biggest challenge right now is getting rid of this:
