I'm suprised at the lack of hip hop acts. I don't class RJD2 or Gnarls as hip hop

OK- so here's some more details.....

2 Stages 10 Hours- plus a DJ Tent.......

So if we break it down, this much we know.....

DJ TENT:

Digweed
Tiesto
James Holden
Carl Cox
RJD2
2Many DJs

Which leaves: 15 Acts spread over 2 Stages with the headliners being The Who & Red Hot Chili Peppers

7-8 bands per stage.... Earlier acts will play a shorter time period leaving the later acts with longer playing times..... ((( sounds good to me which means we may actually get more of a FULL SHOW from headliners vs a strip down version )))

I guess all that's left to do is wait and see how things develop-

Yeah, it's the same weekend as the Psy-Geo Conflux (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psy-Geo-Conflux) in Brooklyn. Which is probably for the best because I don't want to be tempted to spend 100 bucks just to see 2 MANY DJS, whom I desperately want to see. Way, way, waaaaaaaay too pricey for me.

I'm still kinda astonished by how damn much WOLFMOTHER sounds like someone glued LED ZEPPLIN and BLACK SABBATH together and added on a slight english indie rock vocalist whine to it. It's good, but fucking eerie. They have one track that I swear to god starts out just like "Paranoid".

You are absolutely correct, sir. My bad.

Still means I can't go though. I work weekends at a comic book store in Georgetown so there's no way I can get two weeks off in a row.

Also, I still don't want to spend 100 bucks on this.

On a side note, I recommend everyone check out the Conflux site. That shit is going to fucking rock. Psychogeography in practice rules.

I found this interesting statement

"The 2003 Conflux was co-produced by ABC No Rio"

I used to go to hardcore shows @ ABC No Rio around 89 to 91. It was a very interesting place.

They are still going strong. Stronger than ever (NEVER BEFORE! KMFDM! A DRUG AGAINST WAR! hahaha. sorry, couldn't resist). They just announced that they're opening a new permanent space since they finally raised the 300K to renovate it. The description (http://info.interactivist.net/article.pl?sid=06/07/07/0731234&mode=nested&tid=22) made it look fucking awesome:

"Envisioned for the site is a multi-use community arts center with darkroom, silk-screen printing facility, small press resource center, computer center, expanded space for art, music, performance, educational and community activities, and meeting and office space."

New York has been look increasingly attractive as far as alt.culture spaces go. DC is slacking. The closest thing we have is the Brian MacKenzie Infoshop which is driving me up the wall since I've been trying to volunteer there for over a year now and they keep losing the application.

every song on their album sounds like a different band,

one sounds like zepplin.

one sounds like sabbath.

one sounds like janes addiction.

etc..etc..

it's a fun game to play to pick the band they are attempting to imitate on each song.

Could have saved me a ton of work if the promoters of this event had check their's:puppydog:

Due to the recent announcement by IMP regarding their bringing the 1st Virgin Music Festival to Baltimore on the same day as the Baltimore Music Conference, we have been forced to move the date of our event to October 7th for several reasons. The City of Baltimore does not have the resources available to handle 2 large events at one time, even though our paperwork and plans have been in place for many months. We, being a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to helping the unsigned, the new, and the local performer, do not have the resources to be able to compete with another festival promoted and/or sponsored by a large corporation. We find it makes little sense to hold two large events in the same city on the same day as it dilutes the attendance for both events.

IF YOU HAVE APPLIED TO PERFORM:
Due to the entertainment committee being in it's final stages of performer selection, we need to know from you all whether the October 7th date is still a viable date for you to perform. Please let us know no later than Friday, July 28th (although the sooner the better) as to your availability so the announcement of who's performing at the 2006 BMC can be made on the 1st of August as planned. Please send your availablity to LSuit@bmcon.org and KLiakos@bmcon.org.
We apologize for the change in date and acknowledge that this has caused an extreme inconvenience for all those involved, however, we've been left with very little recourse in the situation.

Thank you all in advance for your continued support and our apologies once again.

The bouncibility factor on this show is hot

from what I've heard their trying to keep the crowd spead out throughout

meaing while there is a big name on the main stage there is a big name on the 2nd stage and a big name in the tent

to plan the day.....................rool from seeing Carl Cox in the tent to Gnarls Barkley on the 2nd stage to the Who on the main stage

Also want to see Keane and Wolfmother.....even though I think this is how the festival is going to work I believe I can accomplish it all

It's a huge line-up and the economics arguement is pretty weak

The Who easy over $100
RHCP at least $60
Gnarls Barkley 25ish$ at least (as well as Thievery Corporaton) not to mention the Killers and Keane (if dude gets out of rehab in time) and every other band (too many to name) Not to mention the chance to see some acts that are bad ass just not as well know (Kasabian) comes to mind

And the DJ tent.....good luck seeing that line-up on the east coast, I personally don't think old Armory parties match up to it.

My .02$ - Bang for your Buck

Yeah I know here it comes blah, blah, blah.....shorter sets.....blah, blah

It's a huge line-up and the economics arguement is pretty weak

and pretty typical in this area where many don't want to/won't pay even a $10 cover/admission charge for something held here. Stangely enough, we'll drive to NY (at least $60), pay $10 - $25 admisssion, & drink $14 drinks all night.. makes no sense does it?
But it is who we is
I'd venture to say the majority of the 50,000+ tickets that have been sold are to "out-of-towners".

Ok just in case know one knows this Keane pulled out a week or two ago since the dude is still in rehab.

And this just in straight from Tiesto's website http://www.tiesto.com/

Tiësto shows cancelled due to health

On Tuesday, September 19th, Tiësto complained of chest pains and shortness of breath. As a result, he was hospitalized in the Netherlands for medical testing. Early indications are that he is suffering from a condition known as 'pericarditus.' The doctors are confident that he will make a complete recovery through the use of medication and rest.

At this date it is uncertain as to how long it will take for Tiësto to recuperate. He will be kept at the hospital for a couple of days for further testing and rest. Aside from the pain in his chest he is feeling fine and is fully confident that he will be back to work soon.

And besides, the live acts have enough support, EDM needs help. I chose to place myslef in the dance tent most of the time because I am a god damn fool who believes that EDM is the greatest of all.

B'more is a great town ...many cool peeps came from here and movies and parts of movies have been filmed here.

ie: the guy who played Murdock from an old show the "a team" is from here
the drummer from the go-go's went to my high school
my friend Buckey Lasek is from here
Tom Seleck used to own a home in western maryland
Bruce Willis is in town filming a movie here
Kevin Bacon's sister lives here
Jada Pinkett Smith is from here
" homicide' was filmed here ( and one of my best friends married one of the camera guys)
john waters
and divine ( that speaks for it's self)
the guy who is the voice of elmo (kevin clash) is from here
oh, and Mikey aka Cisco ( thong tha tha thong) and his original crew Dru Hill are from here

the only time i could justify going into the "rave" tents at a big festival, is if A) the DJ talent is really amazing, and never comes to town (as in, for years), and B) the live acts on while said DJ is playing, sucks, thus making the DJ a more attractive experience
