88 degrees is a day-time artistic amalgamation fusing electronic summer
sounds with: the creation of visual art including a 30 foot mural;
video projection; clothes from local designers and avant-garde portrait
art for those seeking a unique experience while enjoying Saturday
lunch, dinner and drinks at the region's newest restaurant/lounge.

The event, takes place on the 4,000 square foot outdoor terrace of
Gallery Restaurant and Lounge (www.gallerysilverspring.com) located in
SoPo Silver Spring. The terrace, with vistas of downtown Silver Spring
and an environment surrounded by early-1900 chimneys, provides the
ultimate backdrop for an outdoor urban party serving exquisite
Latin/Carribean dining and drinks.

88 degrees features DJs/producers that aim to take the listener on an
extended journey. This month will feature Brooklyn-based composer
Galbis (www.DJGalbis.com) from 7 - 9pm. Sometimes called eclectic and
experimental, but always rocking, Galbis (Ricardo Galbis) has been
experimenting with sound manipulation since 1998. He wrote his first
album in 2000 using manipulated sound clips and beats (the CD named
'X'). Later in 2001, he began production on what is now 1843, a
three-year work which yielded tracks taking influences from drum ‘n
bass, trance, breaks, hip-hop, and rock. Breaking away from the
stereotype that electronic music is a lifeless, machine-driven genre,
Galbis performs his music live and makes each performance unique and
different. Vocals are performed live, samples from the crowd are
manipulated, instruments switched up, and perceptions twisted.

Remixes of known tracks are also dropped and delivered with a unique
twist, producing a sound that can only come from live performance.
Galbis started a weekly electronic music radio show which evolved into
one of the world's first electronic music podcasts showcasing
everything from drum 'n bass to electro. In 2006, the show celebrated
over 300 subscribers worldwide with a perfect five star rating on the
iTunes music store.

On Saturday night, the DJs will be artistically accompanied by artists
Ross Tiller (www.josephrosser.com) and Mickael Elliot. The two will be
creating a “total composition” with each artist starting from opposite
ends of a 30 foot wall using the same color palette and tools. The
final collaborative image will create an atmosphere of unity as well as
contrast. After the basic image is created the artists will switch
sides to finish off each others compositions, allowing each other to
alter and adjust each others work to finally bring the piece to a
unified end. This piece will be different than previous work at Gallery
as it will feature less of a focus on lettering and more on the
general composition of the piece.

Once the lights go out, video projections for this event will be
provided by Baltimore artist Kari Altmann (www.blackmothstudios.com).

The Traitors (formerly known as the DC Sketch Crew) will also be on
hand from 5 - 9pm. The Traitors are a group of artists from different
backgrounds that come together to create collaborative art, by doing
"Assembly Line Portraiture". In this process, each artist works
together, “tag-team style”, drawing different features of a person's
face to create a complete portrait of the subject. It's a new angle on
the traditional portrait artist setup, making for some unpredictable
fun.

Finally, joining the artistic fray will be several area fashion
designers with their wares on hand for you to try on and buy.

Cheap drinks, good vibes, a vice for every grip and Kenny Glasgow to boot latr on. Hope you can join in. *..*
