seconded...there was about an hour or so there when shit was nice and raw, i'm talkin' straight up militant then it would just die off randomly and i found myself just standing there looking at my watch more than i was dancing...last year i stayed 'til shit shut down, this year i left at three, that track selection just was not workin' out and just destroyed the flow of the night for me...

i mean what do you guys honestly expect from POTD? it's DnB for the masses. "Pop" DnB. yes MAINSTREAM. well, as mainstream as underground music can get.
the whole idea behind the group was to get a large audience hyped to hear better known 'anthems'. Tracks that people more familiar(eat sleep drink it) to the DnB genre will say, "i'm so sick of hearing this tune" but to the 2000 DnB lovers that arn't scensters, they will eat the shit up.
If you don't like top 40 DnB go see some lesser known producer/dj dropping their own unreleased tunes that tear holes in the sub.
Hhmmm speaker ripping DnB. it makes my panties wet.

i dunno i've seen some killer performances from dara and DSL esp. on POTD tours many times .. the selection the other night was just more cheesy jump-up than usual and overall not as exciting as usual. i think that's been the trend for the last couple years tho to be fair. was probably more into the breaks this time actually until they started dropping some darker shit towards the end of the night

I listened to a good 45 minutes of Dieselboy's set and I really though he was phenomenal. You couldn't even hear it when he switched records, and wouldn't even know a different beat (or often the same beat blended with a different one) was on unless you were looking up at the booth and physically saw him put a new record on. Some good, fast DnB. AK was nice with it, too, even though I wasn't feeling all of his songs, but I felt overall the good far outweighed the bad. Dara was the only disappointment to me...with the new album and everything...but it was an OK set. Overall I thought they put on a helluva show.

i mean, i'm not saying they're bad. I'll take POTD over some trance anyday. But personally i prefer the more underground DnB. the darker dirtier stuff that a lot of people shy away from. To me POTD embodies mainsteam DnB. I am also not saying that individually Dara or Dieselboy or AK1200 wouldn't drop sicker nastier tunes. cause i know they do. but as a collective, and IMO what POTD pushes, is the more recognizable sounds of DnB.

This is true, and I agree that the underground and darker, harder beats are more enjoyable, but I also like mainstream and I think people ought to know that's what they spin in advance and expect that...that way they wouldn't be disappointed.

just to clarify:
I would refer to jump up as DnB mainstream.
there is plenty of darker drum and bass that IS more recognizable.
there is plenty of lighter more ambient DnB that is lesser known.
there is plenty of DnB that *most people/the masses* would recognize.
there is plenty of DnB that only *a few people/the heads* would recognize.
POTD tends to only play more recognizable DnB FOR THE MASSES
also, I am not saying this is bad, only predictable
i am saying POTD is predictable

When are people going to realize that POTD has been putting on weak-ass shows for YEARS!!! There are soooo many talented D&B DJs and Producers from the states now - and THESE GUYS are supposed to be the best we've got?!?! Much respect to Diesel Boy, Dara & AK 1200 for their hard work over the years and their struggle to try and push things forward in the D&B scene in the states - but really, I haven't heard a set from any of them that I enjoyed since 1999! I can list at least 10 DJs from the DC Metro area that I feel have more talent and ability than POTD.... but I guess it all comes down to what kind of shit you personally like - the real sloppy, metal-influenced D&B just doesn't do it for me. I guess the reason I get so frustrated with POTD is because if you mention that you like D&B to someone who might not be too familiar with the scene, they automatically assume that you must love Diesel Boy, Dara & AK 1200 - and they also prob assume that most D&B sounds like the stuff these guys are puttin out - and they couldn't be further from the truth. Diesel Boy's "97 Octane" or "Drum n Bass Selection" (1998) could get me dancing to this day - what the fuck happened to these guys?
-wake up and open your eyes to the beautiful world of D&B..... give up on POTD!

Amen.
Sure, there's better DnB out there, but the track selection is kinda determined by the purpose behind POTD. Like the selection or not, dont hate on what was, technically-speaking, a very tight set.
All in all I had a blast. I went in and enjoyed the night without thinking "man, they could have picked better tunes than this".
Ok, I'm lying. I did think that once or twice. Then I got drunk and stopped caring. :-P
