it's loosely base on some beach pictures I took whilst in the bahamas. I made it with paint chips I took from home depot and lowes. i took a long time, it's like 20"x30"
I think it's pretty nifty

no, I just went in and pretended like I was searching for paint to paint my house with. I think the security around them is quite loose because I was able to grab like, 7 or 8 or each sheet with out them saying anything. I ended up with a huge handfulls too. I think the key is to go saturday afternoon when they are busy. also I made several trips.

sure, what sort of scene would you like? or do want just a bunch of random colors in a pattern?

lol, it's supposed to be a rock. you can't tell from the picture, but it's textured. I hit the jackpot at lowes, they had all manner of textured paint chips. it was kewl.

also, the sand for the beach is sand paper, and the house is a house I cut out of a catalog from Expo design center. so it isn'y all paint chips.

mike - i actually think that you have done something quite fascinating here, despite the overall "elementary" aesthetic of the piece. if this were done in an art class or displayed in a gallery, i sincerely believe it would spark an interesting conversation as to what this piece IS, i.e. - is this a painting? collage? mixed media?
i like the fact that it is, essentially, a mixed media, but at the same time it could equally be argued that it is a painting, as it is literally paint on a canvas/board, which challenges traditional conceptions of what a painting is and how one is created.
ok i'm done. sorry to get all "arte povre" on yo ass

that's actually what I was going for, making a painting and a collage at the same time, sort of.
and yes, it is a bit elementry but it's the first one I have ever done. I think the water is a bit too "noisy" in that too many blues and geens are used. at the end I looked at it and thought that I should have used more homogenous colors for the water. and the perspective on the house is way wrong.

pete made good points. this art you did here.... this is something.
like, this doesn't seem amatuerish to me or anything like that. this is creative not only in content but also in concept. i love resourceful art.
people are even offering to pay you to make them something like this. that really says something.

It's very "David Carson meets Monet". I'm loving it. :)
I think that the realistic print on the brick house matched with the collaged scenery just MADE it.
:bravo:

Agreed. This is really creative.
in case any of these are aimed at my referring to the "elementary aesthetic," i was speaking solely towards A.) the subject matter, and B.) the way in which the piece was arranged.
it is in no way a condescending or deragatory remark :)
