See, i like to play shit that hasn't been heard
in awhile, good stuff that just slips off of people's
heads, or even tracks i know have fallen out of
style. It's something i try to do in every set, just
like my norman rule. I always try to play at least
one norman cook track.
I still rock junior senior tracks, even though that's
fallen to the wayside. I've got a krafty kuts mix of
"rhythm bandits" that's massive. I also like to play a
stir fry cut of "starry eyed suprise", both have gotten
me crap for playing, but had good crowd response.
What about y'all?

good thread.
i think shit can be cheesy, but still tasteful at the same time.
case in point -
tom real vs. the rogue element - he's so hot right now.
i play the CRAP out of this. and im sure some would think it was cheesy. but fucking damn it's evil and awesome.

I'm pretty sure I dropped Krafty Kuts remix of junior seniors get on your feet last time I played in the rubik room.
I usually dig up some good oldies when I play out. IMO in this town, it's really, really, really, really, really hard for a breaks tune to get played out.

my only complaint with the rogue element.. the songs re too similar.. I got my style and calm a while ago and haven't had the urge to buy any of the newer stuff.

not all cheese is bad.
cheesy tracks can actually give you an awesome crowd response if you use right in your set. one time I played a cheesy hard trance remix of "Mr. Vain" and people went nuts over it. yeah, I know it's not breaks.

i do agree with this.
some shit is different. that he's so hot right now tune i played last night is more techfunky then anything else i've heard from him..but i think that's cuz it was him vs. tom real.
but the flip (which i also played), the 06 remix of resistance is futile is definitely more rogue element influence.
the 2 house tunes on his album tho i think are great. remind me of speed garage.

Goodtimes, that's a great track too. I think that stuff
can be played out really really easy actually. Cut & Run's
"Outta Space" got played 10x. I heard it dropped at least
four or five times at Summer Breaks, all within the same
night. It's a good track tho. "My, My, My" was a close second
for playedness.
The newer mix of "Feelin kinda strange" is close to being
played out, at least for me. But still that's personal opinion,
its a great track as well. I wouldn't beef anybody for playing
it.
"He's so hot..." that's a good one, definetly not something i'd
drop, but good. I love to drop "Ill Street blues" when i get the
chance to and that's another that was around a lot for a period.

See, I don't think goodtimes is cheesy at all. It's actually really tastefully done and well produced. I can feel the vocals on that one.

This one got in my head. I cannot lie. It was that damn shortee vs. annalyze cd.

I thought this tune was cheezy from the start. The vocal is so high pitched it makes me wanna hurt people. If a vocal cannot be matched to the beat without jacking up the pitch like that, then DON'T DO IT. on the other hand, I'd love to hear this vocal used at its normal pitch in a slower midtempo funky electro joint.
>>>
My deal with cheesy stuff is this: If I can rock out a room and have people loving what I'm playing, without playing cheese, then I'm going to keep NOT PLAYING IT.
Also, I am NOT A SLAVE as a dj. I am not a little computer that people put their quarter in to hear the top 40 tune of their choice. I know my music. I know what's good. I'm going to play it. Fuck what someone WANTS me to play.

we disagree on this one.
the original drumattic twins tune had the same vocal, and i think it sounds good. it's SUPPOSED to have that cheesy 70's funk feel to it.
and i think the remix, albeit played at this point, is fucking golden. i am tired of hearing it, but i think it's one of the better remixes to come out in the past months. they kept the funk of the original, anfd gave it a whole new flair.
good work.

I'm liking the 70's funk, but not the pitch of the vocal.
