If anyone is serious about their tequila I highly recommend exploring Premium Mezcals as well. While technically any alcohol made from the Blue Agave plant is a "Mezcal"- tequila is the more "evolved" product. Much like Cognac and Brandy.

The Pinas of the agave are roasted in underground pits vs tequila that is steamed in above ground ovens. Mezcals usually are only distilled once while all tequila by law must be double distilled. (some brands are now doing a triple distill on their products....but myself and many others who enjoy fine tequila feel that is a bit overboard and robs the essence of the agave too much from the drink). Mezcal is what the local rural Mexican would drink, while the tequila is fed to the more "well off".

Dont discount a fine Mezcal. Just NEVER, EVER buy the brand with the damn worm in it. That is a total marketing scheme and has never had ANYTHING to do with the harvest and fermentation of the Agave plant. It is placed in cheap mixto (not 100% agave) Mezcals as a gimmick. Surefire way to hell by hangover.

-always. always. drink 100% agave be it tequila or mezcal. Otherwise the company can legally use up to 49% other sugars in the ferment (usually carmel or wood flavoring), it may also be bottled out of Mexico.

thank you SO much to the promoters for putting this event on.

i think the only thing we should learn from this is that venue should NOT be used again, which is a shame, because i think there were many people there who were looking at it as a possible place to have a party.

it really makes me appreciate the relationship buzzlife has with nation staff and security.

Pretty much the same ideas here as to what's already been said. I had a great time last night, and it was awesome getting to ring in a new year with so many friends that I've made over the past couple years. All the dj's spun amazing sets, and I had tons of fun dancing and taking pictures. Ed decided to be a wuss and not try to take my blinking binkie and throw it across the room, but I think we all knew that was going to be the case.

Beth, sorry to hear about all the drama and shit that went down.

And to everyone else out there thinking about using that venue as a place to throw a party, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. The club owners/managers ended up with some seriously shady dealings and I have a feeling that our friends, the ones we all love, are going to get fucked because of it.

I had a freaking blast last night... period. There definitely was a bunch of shit that went down but I was honestly too fucked up to make any sense of it.

The music was dope, I danced almost the entire time. If I recall correctly I also busted out glowsticks for a bit. LOL. I guess it also goes without saying that I have yet to sleep and it's 3pm the day after. I"m gonna take some nyquil and pass the funk out!

btw - if i texted any of you last night with some crazy messages... i blame the alcohol.

I have to agree with Beth on this issue...

The party was awesome, the venue was pretty good, but the bar service and the demeanor of the club owners was not exactly warm.

It's really hard as a promoter or party organizer to find places (especially in DC) that don't treat you like some criminal element or try to dick you over every chance they get.

Major props to Jason, Jim, Justin and the gang for thowing this party - I know how difficult this kind of thing can be but from experience you always learn lessons for the next time.

I have to thank all those lovely friends of mine that braved a cramped room full of furniture and non-english-speaking ice men - no place to dress or get painted properly (as promised). It was a lot of fun :) Thank you girlies!!!

As far as good times? I am with the Spigster on this one...I had a blast! saw and hugged and kissed my fair share of ravers last night - drank a lovely toast or two (or three) with my honey (who looked maaavvvooolussss) - heard a lot of DJs that I absolutely love - not just as DJs - but as people too - just a good group of guys period. All the promoters and street team that worked so hard - the security (that made sure that stuff was handled appropriately) - the people that worked the cash box (that were honest) - the bartender girl that actually gave a crap about our stuff and the bartenders that actually CHARGED so that the production team wouldn't be out the full $7,000.00 (the other bartenders can suck my goat's balls) - all the hugs, the azz grabs and noise-makers. Terrific! Oh...and guys...the champagne was lovely!! Nice choice! I got caught up with a lot of friends I haven't seen or talked to in forever - loved the perculator track!! and Buster's scratching --- well...that was pure "butta" baby!! Thank you ALL for all the work - the video and lighting, the helpers (friends), the sound, the running and calling and checking and flyering, emailing & DJs. It really was the best NYE I have had in a long time!

As for the rest of it? DUUUUUDE. I was not part of the dealings - I was the stand-by-and-listen-then-gripe-girl (right hun?) :D. There is always something to be learned...it is too bad that you have to ask for full on inventory of alcohol for a venue to keep them honest!!I was actually told that they had taken an inventory and would know what they sold, but it wasn't there job to prove they gave out the drinks - it was only up to reciepts and the crew that threw the party to make up the difference. Yes. I was told that. SHIT!!! AND...it is too bad that once contracts are signed and money is spent and two days before a venue opens they change deals AND....it is kinda interesting that name dropping (TO ME!!! of all people - I wasn't even in the dealings!!) seemed to be important to the management at 5:30 am. I have worked with far bigger than managing the bottom of a jazz lounge in DC (for GODS SAKE!!). Whatever. Shady is what comes to mind. I say it is experience that stops these things from happening. The less you know the management, the more things need to be written in tight-azzed contracts. PERIOD.
I was also told last night that they "really don't care to have a regular party there" so treating anyone like anything really doesn't phase them...I guess that would explain some of the really really bad things that happened, and I am sorry that they did! To my friends, I am soooo sorry :( !!

well...I could go on...but I have said enough.

Over-all? Two thumbs up to the party.
